Peter Gabriel appears on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 1994. He performs "Digging in the Dirt" with his band accompanied by Tonight Show bandleader Branford Marsalis on sax. Sorry, but the music part was condensed on the original recording, so it is shortened. The majority of this clip is the interview with Leno.

Lot of people commenting about how he aged fast. He didnt, he has just never been in the limelight, and his albums from So until his next album Us took like 8 years. His album Us till Up took like 10. So yeah, if you see a video from one of those, of course he has aged. He looks super vital nowadays for a man of 72

Peter's too cool for Leno. You can watch Leno start to lose himself when he realizes this is not going to be his typical guest with cheap laughs and cliche quips and that this man is a little more intelligent and has some seriously insightful things to say.

this clip must be from early 1993 - just after Gabriel winning the Grammy-award for "Digging in the Dirt". Joy Askew on keyboards for the 1st leg of the tour in 1993. Peter`s hairstyle is just the same as it was during the days after the release of "Us" in late 1992.

@@jameswesleykarl It was their first manager Jonathan King who called them Genesis. Apparantly there was also an american band called Genesis, so they were going to change it to 'Revelation', but the american band disappeared. His first idea was 'Gabriels angels' but that was quickly nixed by everybody.

Peter looked hella young in the 80s/early 90s. Here in 1994 you can see the very first traces of him aging. By 2002 he looked like such an old man, that was so bizarre

He seems very humble, shy even. Soft spoken and not all that remarkable. Looks are deceiving, because on stage he's the opposite!
@doggity5149
@doggity5149 Жыл бұрын
Thats exactly what he is, shy and humble. And always thinking about the words he's going to speak. The stage was the place where he could play a character and really express himself in ways he felt uncomfortable to in "real life". That's why in Genesis he got into the whole costumes thing. It's not uncommon by the way for artists to be insecure or shy in everyday life, but seek the spotlight on stage nevertheless. It often works the other way round as well, people who seem incredibly self confident normally shutting down when suddenly all attention is on them, in the form of being on a stage, making a speech, or put on the spot in some way. Funny how that works.
