Yeah "The Lamb" was something totally different than "Selling England By The Pound" and "Trick Of The Tail" it's like Peter teleported late 70's/ early 80's post punk from the future into that one double album in 1974. And nobody else in Genesis knew what was happening.

Best most theatrical live concert I have ever seen in 50 years. Peter performed the whole album, so many costume changes. No one had ever done this before, in many ways it was better than a NYC Broadway Show.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!! LLDOB was my first concert that I ever went to. 15 yrs old and costume changes just blew me away, had no idea that a concert was like that and none I ever saw after to this day have ever been like that concert. It was fucking cool. I still have my original album and it's in perfect condition.

@@stevenkaskel3469 A HS friends uncle was in the record business he would give her radio station demo albums. I heard LLDOB maybe a half year before they played in CA. She gave me that album and many more. I saw Genesis at the Berkley Community Theater less than 3000 capacity. I knew and bought tickets in advance perfect center of stage seats 15 feet from Peters mic. The light and costume changes were well done. No radio station were really playing the songs from the album until after the Live shows. Its to bad about Phil Collins health neurological disorders.,. Take care

I saw them do the show at Academy of Music. Very unsatisfying compared to their earlier Foxtrot and later Selling England. Perhaps it was the tension between the band and Peter. He was conflicted and soon to leave them. Loved the concept but, in real performance, it was spotty.

He and Peter Hammill, who especially in the 70s knew each other well and worked together, have a different approach to the same. Hammill's work was less accessible. I've known 2 people who said they loved Hammill but it was just too much to bear for them, the lyrics and the music. If had to explain the difference as I feel it, Hammill presents his views and stings, Gabriel guides through them and enlightens.

What a brilliant version of the 'Lamb' by Peter. So much attitude! This brings back memories of when I saw Peter perform this song at Hammersmith Odeon, London, around this time and I recall him swinging the microphone stand around and hitting Tony Levin on the head by accident! This drew blood, but Tony, Peter and the band carried like the true professionals they are. This was the first of many times that I saw Peter live. Great memories!

Qwerty123 , I just saw the Musical Box, a Genesis tribute band, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Thursday! There from Canada! It was a blast! Although they do a respectful homage to the Peter Gabriel era, they love them so much and don’t try to pretend they are Genesis. It’s like, we’re her, your here, lets pay tribute to one of the greatest bands ever, and they did, the show was unbelieveable! Genesis even donated props to them! Greetings from Illinois!

What's really amazing, is how unusual this song was for Peter's solo career. Unlike most people who leave a popular group and move on to a solo career, Peter built his career on a complete split with his past and not playing music from his time in Genesis, but entirely of post Genesis works. Yet, also was able to reach the level of popularity but still being different, not a pop rock musician but someone who ended up very popular, with well known songs without selling out his musical roots.

All you naysayers are just being negative and don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. This is a wonderful version(even the keyboard intro), and it’s really a treat getting to hearGabriel do a Genesis tune at all. And lots of great bands and albums from the “punk era” hold up even better after all these years(note The Clash, Television, Talking Heads, & Richard Hell, to name just a few, all leaving great albums behind(which just get better as time goes by)for us and future generations to enjoy. So all you negative people just keep it to yourself. This is a wonderful version of a great song, and a real treat for the eyes and ears. So shut it! Thanks for reading...

txikilin I always had the impression that Steve Hackett was somewhat the odd man out who just never seemed to fit it or be more much more than the lead guitarist for Genesis, period. Videos seemed to give that feel. Strange, perhaps misled perception since he had Collins and Rutherford on his first solo album. Nonetheless, he has always been graciously complimentary of all original band members.

@@AnAmericanFan Probably because Hackett was ´squeezed out´ by Banks. But Hackett´s sound was hugely integral to the Genesis sound - so much that Banks decided HE wanted HIS sound to be more important.

I think Peter lost a lot more... no keyboards, guitars or drums Peter put forward were ever progressive again... except a couple of tunes on his first album. No melodic rhythm changes anymore, no amazing guitar or drums or keyboards again. He wanted to be a center when once he was part of a greater. Peter never even tried to be produce complex music that could speak independently of his lyrics anymore. But it was what he wanted. But it was not even close to anything he ever did with the boys at his side. Not even close to close.

I am thinking of his last DVD - he was singing lying down. It was a little sad. As a true fan, I understood - it's tough to do the same things at 70!

@@joseluishernandezdelgado2866 I didn't say it was Genesis, old son. I said Gabriel was the true voice of Genesis. I didn't comment on the song or the manner in which it was portrayed. That voice was sorely missed when he left. Read what I say, don't interpret it for me...

"The unmistakeable (sic), irreplaceable voice of the one true Genesis"... OK, that's the opinion of you and of those elite who call themselves "true Genesis fans while the others are just commercial fans". But many if not the majority view it differently, namely: All eras of Genesis represent true Genesis. Both singers PG and PC had each raison d'être. Only Ray Wilson was a misunderstanding which showed the resonance of CAS album plus tour. But even if someone likes it as a part of Genesis we all have to deal with.

I saw him live at the Hollywood Bowl back in I think 2013 or somewhere around that time. I was a young teen. He was an old man. He was more incredible than ever, with more energy than most. And the stage art he had was so creative and epic. I was sooooooo lucky.

The best thing to ever happen to Genesis and Peter Gabriel was their parting of ways. They both got bigger and improved after they separated. Peter Gabriel always had a highly theatrical flair for his music, especially in his live performances. His performances were not confined to his music playing and singing; he added drama, stage presence, acting, costumes, props, lighting, and visual effects. This man is an actor, director, singer, and musician on the stage, and live performance on stage is his forte.

And Phil Collins wanted something completely different. He wanted to be a commercial pop star. He had to do it carefully though. On Genesis' first release without Peter Gabriel, Trick Of The Tail, Collins had to sound as much like Gabriel as possible.
