Truly the funniest comedy ever to grace television.

These two actors are so funny together. Actually John Candy played off any actor perfectly so it seemed more natural

He did a bunch of hilarious LaRue exercise segments and they all involved opening the fridge and taking out beer and he's always winded by the 3rd rep.

loved it when actors broke each other up..i.e.1:27 "May I now order for you..to help you?" LaRue: (trying not to laugh) "What?" Dave (also trying not to laugh) "May I order for you?"

Yeah, I loved that part. True improvised comedy!

Nice accent mixed with vietnamese accent. I'm Asian and it was funny because John Candy is so likeable.

Perfect example of the understated SCTV humor. "You can always tell a good Chinese restaurant by the number of orientals who eat here." Camera pans around restaurent showing zero Asians.

He comes out with a huge bowl of white rice, another large bowl of bean sprouts, and LaRue's review is 5 stars! LOL

3:23 This may be the first instance on TV of the use of the now popular popular term "graze(ing)" for eating a large helping of appetizers. SCTV was always breaking new ground.

Outstanding!! I loved SCTV and especially "Dining With Larue". John Candy was such a talented man. I was a bigger fan of the half hour shows instead of the ones that were on NBC.

I never got the Lin Ye Tang character, but love Dining With LaRue. Can't find his speed-drinking skit, so I'll have to upload mine now, I guess.

I think it’s that it’s not a real Chinese restaurant and the guy is just pretending to be Asian (very poorly ) and the reviewer doesn’t realize
@TheCommunicationCoach Жыл бұрын
@@hushabyehum4805 He's been in all sorts of skits not in a restaurant, I meant all of them. I can't figure out who he's parodying, but he does much better impressions usually.

The venerable Lin Ye Tang... according to Johnny LaRue of SCTV's 'Dining with LaRue'...did not have Peking Duck relations with the Ting Tang Orange Drink sisters of East Melonville....

I wonder if this will pass in the age of political correctness
@lulzalfest2 жыл бұрын
yes it will. The difference is actual comedy vs just the need to be offensive for the sake of being offensive.
@unwavery Жыл бұрын
Yes these skits are funny and classic. PC era was in the 90s and it passed like a ghost fart, except with horrible unfunny whiny white people who think this stuff is comparable to needless use of racial slurs.
@shanewilson872819 күн бұрын
Dave Thomas, for just being a white skined man, would be canceled for playing a Asian man.
@cgasucks Жыл бұрын
He referred Asians as Orientals. I miss those days.

It's just funny, the joke is that the proprieter isnt actually Chinese. If SCTV had had an Asian on cast, it would still be Dave Thos. here.

If by simpler you mean disrespectful, then yes, so much simpler!
