Wow what an idea you gave me. I want to carve a caricature of a friend that is a woodcutter, love wine and books. Now with this pile of books you give me the right idea. I will glue the pile together in a messy way, and I will burn the name of his favourite authors on every different book. He will hold an axe and a bottle of wine, with this big pile of books next to him. Thank you a lot like always uncle Doug!

Jesus. Although other activities (not hobbies) keep me away from woodcarving for some periods, each and every time I watch one of your videos I feel the compulsory need to rush to my knives and start carving. You are the culprit I got hooked in this so beautiful and rewarding hobby, and Thank you for ever for that. You. Are. Awesome. You are one of a kind teacher for woodcarving. Thank you so much and please never ever stop gifting us with your videos.

Thanks Doug for the little book carving project, I had to try to do one myself out of scrap wood I had laying in a bucket for camp fire starter, the peace's were big enough for the books but not any thing else. I showed the little book I carved to my wife and she said cute, make more for Christmas presents.

I can't carve but I'm trying to learn. I was looking for something simple to try when I came across this video. I tried one and it didn't turn out too bad. So I got the idea of carving several of them then laser engraving titles of my wifes favorite books on them and attaching magnets to the backs and give to her as refrigerator magnets for stocking stuffers. We'll see how this turns out! Thanks!

Fantastic idea! What a cool gift for the teacher on the first day of school! I enjoy your quick and fun projects. How about carving a "fruit fly house" or "flea house"? I have made one out of one piece of scrap wood, about the size of your small books. It looks like a very tiny birdhouse, complete with a hole for the imaginary critters to fly into, and a little peg beneath the hole - you know, like when birds rest on it before they enter their house. Love your whittlings and easy projects! Thanks for sharing!

I love that you’re branching out in ideas! I’m making small things for fairy gardens in the house and larger gnome gardens outside and little carved items are great to add personality to the displays. Was a fun project. I volunteer in the library here and will give stacks to various people. I expect. To paint Christmas colors and woodburned 2022 on cover book. I also found that I could burn pages with fine burning tip I used for feather burning on ducks when younger. I also found I had a 3 p#3 v tool that could put pages in. I used 1”,1.25” and 2” basswood. The 1” is too small but did work. Made 7 stacks, it was fun

What a great idea and ‘simple’ to boot. Been enjoying your many interests for several years. Started carving about then, too. Your methods are explained really well making them easy to follow. I, too, enjoy a coffee that actually tastes like it. 👍 looking forward to many more adventures that include carving and coffee. Oh, and fishing, too, as that has had ME hooked as a small child. Thanks for what you share.
