Neck carving is such a wonderful way to spend a few hours. I prefer files and rasps over draw knives etc when im building but i do love watching the process however you choose to do it. Wonderful stuff

I watched you until the end because i may use the same tools you did, no machines. I am impressed! Great outcome. Love to watch you work on the body too. Thanks for sharing.

Wow. Love how the neck looks. Only shaving sort of tools. No rasp. I am considering doing all that with a rasp and sandpaper. I will see how far I can get.

I love your wooden handle spokeshave. What is the difference between the wooden one and the metal one? Seems like the wooden handle one is finer. Does it have a round bottom? @justecordes Thanks.
@justecordes3 жыл бұрын
The wooden one is finer and is rounded so it can get into the heel

@@justecordes where can I buy one of these wooden round bottom spokeshave? If you know a place Amazon or anywhere else would you kindly share a link or the information please?

@@jeetray11 It's an antique so you might find one on ebay or a tool collectors site ?

howdy don't mean to be a bother just wondering what tools you are using? specifically the the blade at the beginning. and the chisel. thanks
@justecordes9 жыл бұрын
+Wlegit At the beginning I'm using a draw knife and the chisel is a number 3 straight gouge.

Hi @justecordes can you compare shaping the neck with rasp/files vs various spokeshaves. Can the outcome and effort be similar? Can you please tell me the types of spokeshave and planes you used for neck and heel carving? Thanks.
@justecordes3 жыл бұрын
I've never carved a neck with a rasp so can't compare, but I'd say the rasped finish would need a lot more sanding smooth afterwards than the spokeshaved finish. The wooden spokeshave is an antique, the others are regular stanley ones.

What kind of wood? Walnut?
@justecordes4 жыл бұрын
Yes, European walnut

I really love to work with Walnut. I’m from Kentucky-USA and we’ve got Black Walnut. Ever worked with that? Any difference worth mentioning?
