Known for its wood carving cottage industry, Saharanpur is one of the flourishing cities of Uttar Pradesh. Last week i went to this shop in saharanpur and purchased a beautiful side stool in pure solid teak. This shop is in the beginning of the market and are having largest collection. The market is around 2 kms long with many shops (even inside the side lanes)... Usually they keep the product unpolished so that you can confirm its teak. Only after final order they do the complete polishing

Dear Sir I would sincerely like to thank you for the message you passed on about the Saharanpur furniture regarding not bargaining too much because lot of artisans who are very talented but unfortunately very poor too are involved in keeping the Indian art and tradition alive I would give three reasons for not bargaining too much 1. We have seen the prices at Saharanpur, they are highly competitive and really affordable 2. These are traditionally Indian arts which are fading into oblivion due to extremely poor returns 3. I appreciate the carving details on these pieces. But the filler used looks like automotive filler (Bondo), which is very toxic to the workers' lungs. It doesn't look like there is any knowledge or consideration of off-gassing from these type of fillers. A better alternative would be water-based fillers which can do an equally good job of solid filling.
