This was so generous of you to share your process. So many years of testing out what works and how sad it must have been to loose 11 of 12 but you kept your eyes fixed on the end goal of mastering this skill. Thank you for passing along your hard earned knowledge so that we can move forward with new knowledge and grow our own skills. ❤ blessings to you and Jackie - may your cups overflow

Sorry about that, I had one in the beginning of the pandemic and the dentists were closed except for emergencies. Two pain killers still did not kill the pain completely. Better things to come I hope.

@@freddiemoretti8456 Thanks Freddie, the weather here is warm so a good start to 2023. Winter is hanging back this year, hopefully in Ukraine too. I just got some more tools sent to me from Bill Wright, so many bowls with chattering, lets hope the customers like them. Clay is full of surprises that keep us interested. Take care.

Your work is amazing. Is the red in the tile, after you carve it, the red clay coming through? I live in Columbus and bought my kiln from Columbus Clay. You’ve inspired me to try sgraffito. Thank you for sharing!

Amazing work, so inspiring! Your black slip is so black. Would u mind sharing how u was able to reach that deepness of a color? Thank u, and have a great day! Ur fan from Istanbul🤍
@Vsmithpots
@Vsmithpots Жыл бұрын
Thank you, I use 6600 mason stain at 10% and add 1/3 black underglaze LUG 1 from Amaco. The slip is 40% ball clay , 20% China Clay (EPK), 20%silica, 10%Potash felspar, 10%fritt 3110. You can use any slip recipe and add the stain to it. Istanbul must be a terrific place to live, all those old churches must be fascinating. I assume lots of Islamic influence in all the tile work too. All the best from icy Canada.

thanks for the great video Vaughan, Im a part time potter in Connecticut and have had trouble with my pottery breaking during shipping , could you show how you package your tiles so they will survive the trip to Germany ? Im interested in purchasing the first mug that came out of the kiln if its available ? We wish you a blessed 2023.. I love your channel.

Hi Steve, I used to do craft shows in CT. I mailed the tiles already but it is no secret to pack well, lots of expensive bubble wrap and double boxing. It has gotten so expensive to ship and it is tempting to skimp on packing but not worth the risk. I will end you a photo of the mug if you can email me at vsmithpots@eastlink.ca

Happy New Year. Vaughn if you do a glaze video can you give some pointers on getting the right consistency of the glaze. When I mix my own glazes I often have trouble figuring out the ratio of water to glaze.
@Vsmithpots
@Vsmithpots Жыл бұрын
Just add too little water when you mix the glaze. When glazing add water in small amounts, it is very important not to add too much. I test using my finger dipping method. Every glaze is different too. I will work on a video soon.

Hi Vaughn, happy new year! I love your Videos, your artwork is just incredible! I do have a question for you. Do you think I could use another kilnshelf on top of the tile, as a weight, for the bisque firering or is it important to only weigh down the edges? Thank you so much for all your great tipps and tricks, I always learn something new!
@Vsmithpots
@Vsmithpots Жыл бұрын
A kiln shelf would crack the clay tile, also it would cost a lot more in energy to fire.

Why those bricks didn't stick on your tile?
@Vsmithpots
@Vsmithpots 2 ай бұрын
I stack them on the green ware to keep the tile flat, then in the bisque firing I keep them on the edges to flatten the tile even more, I bisque to 01 which is when the clay slumps slightly. I use slip for colour with underglaze mixed in 25% so it is not fluxed enough to form glaze which would stick.
