I made fun of this car for years, and just bought one recently and absolutely love it! I wanted a manual transmission and one popped up on Craigslist, I looked at it and fell in love. The car has been great and I get some many compliments from people, seems like the design has aged well. Doesn't hurt it's lowered 1" and has a nice set of wheels.

@gpaje
@gpaje 2 жыл бұрын
@@zachm7916 Not bad actually, tons of OEM Mercedes parts that will work for the suspension, engine and electronics that are cheaper than dealership or Chrysler branded parts. I recently had to replace the steering drag link, found a Lemforder (OEM Mercedes) part for half the price of dealership. The only things that will be harder to get in the future is the body panels and interior from the bulkhead back. Essentially anything that isn't Mercedes. This car is a R170 series SLK320 in drag.

I watched this video because I am considering buying a Crossfire for my grandson’s first car. Great information, and I did a little more digging on the cost of a crank sensor. From a Mopar online parts seller the crank sensor is $244, about $50 less than over the counter, plus shipping. I then Googled Bosch crank sensor for Chrysler Crossfire, and found multiple foreign parts sellers with Bosch Mercedes OEM crank sensors for under $25! I remembered this method from a previous experience owning a BMW 3.0CSi that needed a Bosch part. It was $95 at the BMW dealer (pre internet days, folks), but the same Bosch electric part was in VW cars, and the same part number was $23 at the Volkswagen dealer. It pays to search out these details, especially on German cars.

Had one for 11 years and 187k miles. I was surprisingly reliable until the last two years. Lots of small expensive things, just like a Merc. The tires were also a pain in the ass. 18s in the front, 19s innthe rear, and both really low profile. It became hard to find tires at a reasonable price, and you were screwed if you had a flat. No spare, and few tire shops stocked the sizes this thing took. You always had to order the rears and wait a while for them to come in. Fun car. And a lots of looks at the gas station. Great stereo in the limited models, too.

I bought the 2005 SRT-6 at 21 yo back in 2009 and went through rear tires every 3 months or so. I was able to find a dealer on EBay and got the pair for $350. It had Goodyear Eagle sports that were $450 per tire back when cars barely had 19 inch wheels and I was not paying that much. I finally got smart and stopped burning them off and they’d last a year or so. It got a lot of attention because most people didn’t know what it was. Some thought it was a Porsche and when I’d say Chrysler their jaws would drop. One of my coworkers had a brother and he said it was gay looking until he went for a ride in it. I did a 200+ foot burn out (unintentionally) and jumped on the highway. By the time I was done he said he wanted one

The Mopar Radiator hoses are immaculate compared to the Mercedes hoses. Chryslers of this era had interchangeable Mercedes parts sometimes to the detriment of Chrysler products that were not designed for the part. Chryslers are designed to be driven hard and poorly maintained like any consumer brand. When they are forced to use a Mercedes part, it hurts perceived reliability.

They are a bit shit to drive to be honest. Gearbox change is sloppy and the recirculating ball steering feels like something from the 1950's (because it is) - and coupe or convertible, they flex like a sheet of plastic. They feel like what they are, old Mercedes tech from the 1980's and prior.

I've had a couple of Ford escort GT's when I was younger and currently have a Ford Porbe GT, so this car is obviously an improvement over them. I've also had a Nissan Maxima, Chrysler 300C, and a Dodge charger RT Max for the wife. The Crossfire is also sportier than those. It's the first six speed I've ever owned and love the transmission, but I hear alot about how the steering is not that great on them. Coming from my other vehicles consisting of a F-450, F-350, and Dodge Durango it has good feel, but is somewhat heavy. What 2 seater rear wheel drive six speed manual sports cars would you recommend?

@@emmanuelmcallister5412 It's not a terrible car at all, it's just more of a cruiser than a sports car, in my opinion. Depends on your budget, but in this age bracket and price range the king of daily drivable affordable sports cars used to be the S2000 which are amazing to drive - I haven't looked, but I suspect they have probably skyrocketed in price and are no longer affordable. Otherwise if you have a little more money & want something that feels like laser precision compared to pretty much anything else road legal, you can't go past a Lotus - I've been lucky enough to drive a few models on the track and they are always extremely memorable. Drove an Exige S back to back with a Ferrari F430, and the Exige was in my opinion the far more entertaining car. Probably not so great as a daily though, especially at my age.

I owned an SRT for about 5yrs before someone rear ended it. Spent more time on the back of a tow truck than on the road but when it worked man was it a blast. Also because it’s a Benz you can’t just get it serviced anywhere and you can’t just go to Benz dealer. Crank issues could be cps, but also the fuse box under the hood is another area which can cause this problem. Wait until you have issues with the SKREEM. Lots of fun when your out on the town have keys and can’t get in your car.

The first thing I would have done is take out a spark plug, reconnect it outside the engine, make sure I see it sparking to let me know the ignition system is at least working enough that the engine should start. Next I’d check the fuel pressure to see if the fuel pump works. If it’s the crank position sensor, I’d hope there’d be an OBD2 code saying there’s a fault with that. When you listed the options my guess was the fuel pump. Thanks for the valuable information about crank sensors! I learn more with every video of yours I watch!

I had an engine crankshaft position sensor start to fail on a 2011BMW 328i. The problem that I experienced was that once in a long while the engine would stall when I came to a stop. It took the BMW dealer a few days to locate the problem. The problem did not bring in any trouble codes. So it took awhile for the BMW dealer to duplicate the intermittent problem and determine that the engine crankshaft position sensor would intermittently fail. They replaced the engine crankshaft position sensor and that eliminated the engine stall problem.
