@@TheSleepingonitnah so the lore is hoovie who’s tyler Hoover started an automotive channel about the worst cars and documenting him buying them and how some cars are really bad to buy used bmw being one of them. The wizard was his mechanic on Tyler’s channel who fixed all his cars since pretty much the beginning of Tyler’s channel and their dynamic became iconic instantly. After a few years of success and racking up literal hundreds of thousands of views wizard decided to make his own channel to inform people about which cars are good and not and share that big beard of knowledge with us along with what goes on in his shop. Since then both of their channels have just been growing exponentially and I’m glad for them both there great guys. To anwser your question Hoovie is actually brilliant, so he will buy the bad car to post a video about and dump money into them but he always comes out ahead with the KZbin revenue among having other sources of income it’s all worth it in the end. You’d be shocked how much money a KZbin video can make so while it is the dumbest automotive channel in all of KZbin and he’s most definitely taken losses over the years he usually comes out ahead.

Where I used live, there was a shop that had a drop-down spring-loaded shelf/desk. When you opened it, there was a couple of pens and a bunch of envelopes. Not sure about Kansas but in California the honest above board experienced repair dealer starts with a signed repair order with customer identification, license or VIN # , beginning estimate and an odometer reading. If the car comes in after hours you get a signed drop envelope with permission to spend up to and as much identification as you can get. That protects the customer as much as the shop, but without it the customer can come with a spare key and take his property (the car) anytime without paying a cent. Sure you fudge an hour or two if you’re slow but getting any deeper than you’re willing to lose is a “shame on me” situation. If done properly the shop has a legal binding contract that the customer must pay and the customer has control over how much they’ve committed to the repair. Anything less for any reason is a first step towards trouble. But yeah, the customer who thinks you know immediately what’s wrong by walking up to the car is one to avoid. Working with someone like that will help you a bad service provider.

I worked for jackass who would take his car in for warranty work and tell them it’s not running right. They’d ask him what is it doing and he would say I don’t know , I’m not the mechanic, you figure it out. He did this so if there were more issues than what he spoke of, they would have to fix them too.

He's right too if the car is under warranty.

I had a customer drop off an ‘08 5-series without any info. in the shop I work in. We found out it was an overheating issue. It was leaking from every hose and the water pump was bad. The estimate came to $8k. 🤦♂️ Happy Thanksgiving, Wizards!

how much to repair himself $800?
@h-linetv1082 Жыл бұрын
@@wavybump Well, it didn’t start, it was rusted, and he damaged the front end by hitting a pot hole the size of the Grand Canyon. So, not sure if it was worth it.

@@h-linetv1082 wow that is alot.. the rust is the confusing part. maybe it was sitting while he worked on a budget. bless his heart 🙏.

@@wavybump That’s a good question. We’re in the Midwest, so it’s kind of a rust belt, depending on the winter. Throw in the fact that it’s an 08, and that might be a factor, too. 😂

Here we are four days later and still no update. I would have and would definitely leave that thing outside with the key left in it.

An interesting conundrum. Also, one I have never caused. The envelope, if there is one, is properly completed. If there is not one, I call and leave a voice message, then call back as early the next business day as I can. Of course, having the only Ice Blue Volvo 240 wagon in this city of 140,000 or so people means that rhe shops I deal with all recognize Arthur. Next month Arthur retires due to rot. A bright red metallic Toyota Carolla is going to be a big change in many ways.

always a decent engine. Bmw inline sixes are pretty darn hard to beat with preventative maintenance. a bit crowded at times. but hey NEW SUPRA. dohhhh

Biggest mistake I ever made was buying an old BMW. Too bad car wizard wasn't making videos in the early 90's! Shame on the Wizard!

BMWs wer bad in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s - there was actually a time where they were quite ok. And their motorcycles are quite sturdy.

i bought an old 2003 mercedes i loved it so much and daily drove it for 3 years before buying a new benz, get fkd :D

it all depends on which old bmw and who owned it before you. you're buying the previous owner.

Here in Brazil we actually have a saying that goes, "There is nothing more expensive than a cheap BMW", but it extends to all european cars that are more than 10yrs old.

One of the biggest mistakes I ever made was buying a used VW Tiguan. Things that you take for granted in any other vehicle will give you a lesson in a VW. Right now it needs a Cat. converter among other things. But the repair would cost me more than what the car is worth. A nice looking car, garage kept, is almost ready to go to the junk yard. German over engineering.
@andresboza8285 Жыл бұрын
I am in the same situation. My 2009 Tiguan has been in the workshop for over a year! So many issues with the 4motion system! German manegement decided to cut corners by installing a lot of crappy plastic parts, like the water pump. I have replaced it twice so far.

Well if you don't live in a a state with crazy restricted emissions testing. Then it's time to go catless on it, with an 02 bungle spacer, so the car things it's reading a cat still. Or go aftermarket High-flow Cel downpipes if you still want to retain cats, since it is just a Tiguan. But unfortunately this isn't even a VW issue. It's just a previous owner issue. Good chance the previous owner beat on it when the car was cold, or just let sparks and coils go way too long on it, and it killed the cat because of it. And if none of those options work for you, you can always just make some room and part it out! Engine and DSG gearbox is worth easily $2500+ by itself.
@fiat1312 Жыл бұрын
@@iTrinityPlays We have emission testing but it passed last March - no problems then. I paid registration for the next two years so I am OK till 2025. With a 2.0 liter turbo the thing is really nice to drive.
