Thank you for this video. The sunroof glass on my 2021 CR-V spontaneously shattered today, no impact whatsoever. Just BAM! while in rush hour traffic. Judging by the current class-action lawsuit against Honda for this fairly prevalent issue, I'll probably get a "not our problem" answer tomorrow at the dealership despite my car being in warranty. If I get declined, I think I'll offer to compromise by buying the glass myself if they give me the price I can get it for online, roughly $350, versus $509 retail. $350 sounds better to me than a $500 deductible and an insurance claim. Love the channel, BTW.

This same thing just happened to my daughters 2024 CR-V. She contacted the dealer and the first thing they said, probably hit by a rock not covered by warranty. I think all of these dealers are scripted to say the same thing to cover their asses on a defective (very thin) sunroof.

Listen to The Wizard! Had this happen on a 98 Avalon while driving down 95 at 50 Mph. Made loud explosive-like bang. Vehicle was only a couple of months old and after some back and forth the dealer agreed to replace under warranty. Unfortunately the dealer did not completely remove all the many-many small pieces of glass and the sunroof jammed. Dealer eventually had to replace the entire mechanism. Kept finding many tiny pieces of glass in various interior crevices for almost a year.

Great video! Get every single piece of shattered glass out. Other than the issues you identified with leaving any peices of glass, just one piece of it can get down in the drain tubes and will never come out. Then you have more issues with backed up water in the cabin. Everyone should check around the front drain holes and use a flashlight to look as far in as you can. I would recommend taking some water and pouring some into the drain channel after you clean out all glass and before installing new sun roof glass, just to make sure its draining properly. If not then, there could be a piece of glass down in the drain.

Nice that you could get the oem glass assembly for a pretty good price considering it came with the mounting hardware and seal already and was from a dealership on top of that. I got a Honda Element locally to flip that needed a few parts and they were pretty good about pricing and availability for them. Ended up doing the 6th gear mod along with tossing on a small turbo setup and keeping it for myself as a daily, the Manual AWD setup drives pretty good on the highway with good mileage with the 6th gear. Never was a Honda person but have had a pretty good experience working on the body, engine, and transmission of the Element.

For me, a sunroof is more important than an AC system in my car! Although I loved the first sunroof that I had in my first car the most of them all, because it wasn't electric, it was an old MK2 Jetta '88 vintage, and it had a steel sunroof. During winter times, when it was dry but cold outside, the sunroof was frozen shut, so I cranked the handle for about half a turn - or however far it would crank until it was blocked by the frozen roof, got out of the car, gave the middle of the sunroof a fistbump and there I could open it no problem. I wouldn't dare trying that with these modern finnicky electric glass sunroofs though...

A good tip is to tape up the shattered or broken glass so it does not break more .There was a recall on Audi Q5 and a tech was removing it without being taped up and it shattered and pieces went all through the track, so headliner and complete assemble had to come out.

If you own a car with a sunroof and live in a super hot climate, and you happen to have a vent visors on your car, leaving the window cracked a little bit will help let some of the heat escape from inside your car. I have a black on black 2003 Lincoln town car with a sunroof. On 105° day in South Carolina, I came out to find the sunroof glass had blown outwards… I’m guessing from Heat? It was parked well in my backyard away from the road but in direct sunlight. I took a roll of packing tape and weaved some tape all over the glass. Then I measured and cut a piece of cardboard to put on the inside. After removing the screws, I plucked the glass out. I love venting my Moonroof in summer when first driving to let the hot air out for a few minutes since hot air rises.

Every time we pushed the button to close it the sunroof would move forward to close and then about 3/4 of the way shut it would automatically just retract backwards. Sometimes glass can get just the tiniest nick in it and then the stress of repeated hot/cold cycles can cause it to break starting at that tiny nick. The stress all focuses on that one point, maybe it's so small it's even invisible, but that's where the break starts, and when it breaks, it's complete and sudden.

Had a Renault Laguna estate with a sunroof that had a mind of its own. Was suppose to be controlled by the dial mounted in the head liner but it was very hit a miss as to what you got when you gave it a command. Sometimes wouldn't even close when the dial was put in the close position, have to lock the car with the card and with the lock button pressed for it too close properly. One winter's morning with about 3 inches of snow on the roof, i got into the car to start it up and begin snow clearing. As soon as car started with the sunroof dial in the close position it went to fully open depositing all the snow onto the driver and passengers seat. Note to all: never buy Renault cars especially early 2000s Lagunas they were riddled in electrical faults and a pain to diagnose especially with the stupid key card system they had.

One thing that I noticed is that you do not have markers on the ground for your lifts. I saw an earlier video you posted where Mrs wizards car was rolled by hand while in neutral. I felt that was very unsafe and the vehicle can still roll away even though you've lined it up
