Agreed across the board. I also think the glass carbon all over e63 interior looks kind of cheap to me even if it isn't. When he switched to the M5 interior, it seemed much sturdier and higher quality materials. And I have to disagree with Matt on the rear end. I absolutely adore the M5 rear where everything hatched up beautifully, especially the blackened edges around the tail lights, whereas the AMG tail lights seemed way too bright cherry red almost like on an accord. That's my opinion at least

I also find it strange that during the sound check, Matt had to even think twice about which vehicle sounded better. And his main reason was because the AMG sounded like a vacuum cleaner but did have a few pops and bangs on the Dcel. Who cares about pops and bangs... Neon SRT4 has pops and bangs 😆

Boss BMW is not fully going away from their traditional grilles when it comes to the 3, 2, 5, 8, and quite possible the upcoming next gen 7er.. also their X-series cars whether it be X2 all the way up the line they're all traditionally BMW..it's mostly their new electric cars having some odd grilles along with their latest gen M3/M4 and 4 series...even so not all of them will, the upcoming electrified 3 series will retain it and 2 series, and also future 5 series from what I've heard

I love the styling of the M5, itlooks so much better, the headlights look smart and sharp the grille is well formed and has a good size and it has real exhaust, which is just lovely. I love the side profile of the E63 though but overall I prefer the pre-face-lift version, which looked more serious and elegant because it had the classic AMG grille and was a bit of a sleeper. If I had to chose between Mercedes and BMW I would take the BMW, but not the M5, instead I'd rather take the Alpina B5 Touring, which is more practical, comfortable and still fast enough for the Autobahn here in germany ^^ It also has the cool Alpina wheels :D

BMW all day everyday!!! Not even a contest! I've had (and still got) a 3 series BMW for work,I drive all over the country in it and it blows me away! It does everything I ask of it and doesn't disappoint one bit! I absolutely love it, I did have to swap with a colleague for a day who had a Merc CLS. I hated it, and couldn't wait to get my beema back!!

Mat always does the right verdict when it comes to head to head, but this time though, I think he's wrong because that BMW is bonquers and it doesn't have a soft limiter a 5000rpm, it's just a cold start that restricts it. I would personally prefer the BMW.

This M5 had to keep that legacy of the fastest supersaloon in the world since 1985 and it did. At some stages it was loosing to the RS6 like in 1998 but now they are on the top undoubtedly.

You can get more feel in the steering if you fiddle with the settings. But I do get what you mean about the steering in comfort setting. The cars are so well matched that it comes down to whether you’re a BMW fan or a Merc fan. In a different colour (Marina Bay Blue for example) the M5 makes the Merc look very average I see there was no mention of mpg in the test 🥴

Great review, but missed the fact that when your cruising along in the AMG, it shuts off half the engine to save fuel. Evident when you did the kickdown test by the symbol on the dash. So not only is it down shifting, but also reactivating its other 4 cylinders. AMG my choice for noise when moving.

Several times in the past Mat has been one of the people who praised BMWs system calling it the best in the business. In fact Mat was even the guiltiest, to the point people started calling him BMW fan boy. These are his words, "very intuitive, very fast, easy to use, the best in the business". And he was right, because that was the truth, BMW had the best infotainment system. Go watch his past videos even as recently as 2 years ago. My point is when all the automotive journalists praised the system, BMW rested on their laurels and was surpassed by Mercedes who was always innovative year after year and their system became better.

@@mayur1818 I love my 06 CLK 350. It's not to modern but it's nice enough and classy with wood and chrome matching black leather. Plus unlike BMW it has cooling fans because it's top of the like for it's year. Oh and it's a convertible so it's better than any coupe or sedan🤣
