It's all since the late 90s, when shareholders had less power (and decisionmaking) within the brand, focusing less and less over the years (until nowadays), until we reached a point where you see a 75k car that is just not worth it. Quality control use to be the pinnacle of automotive industry in the 90s, and sadly those days are gone, changing interior high quality noble materials (wood and aluminium in physical buttons to just name a couple) for plastic and tablet shaped screens, and fake exhausts. Same goes once you get under the car, older mercedes used to be overengineered and built to last. And is not only Mercedes. BMW and Audi are doing the exact same thing, also overusing the horrible piano black (aka cheap plastic) in their interiors as well.

But not what Mercedes Coupes used to be - a Coupe WITHOUT a B-pillar. So much more aesthetics, with all windows down (at least for me) the better (and better looking) alternative to a cabriolet. But that's me, YMMV.

Cars are way overpriced, its like they want us to PCP everything or huge deposits but id rather have that huge deposit accessible rather than invested into a depreciating asset. MB offer currently is actually pretty good. Tho its crazy you get a lower total cost deal buying a brand new A45s AMG rather than a 6m/1year second hand one.

I rented an E-class for a trip a few years back. And the gear selector on the steering column is the best thing ever. And back then the stalks were soldi and dampened perfectly, as they should considering is something you interact with all the time. I hope they have not massed that up. Big fan of Mercedes otherwise. Especially because they really have the best infotainment in the business in my opinion, even if it looks a bit dated in places UI wise.

The CLE is a modern interpretation of the con that was the CLK and C207 E-Class coupe, which means Mercedes can charge more for what it actually is. The CLE is priced as an E-Class coupe, but it’s based on the C-Class’ version of the MRA2 platform, not the E-Class’. Which is why space is tight for what is being marketed as an exec coupe, why it has the same interior as the C Class and why the interior quality is shocking for an exec (well, shocking for a C Class too). The CLK and C207 E-Class were the same, exec priced and marketed coupes based on the smaller C-Class.

active safety suite in today's cars is becoming a pain in the butt . . . you longer enjoy driving because the moment you step on to the accelerator the safety suite kicks in & cuts down your acceleration instantly . . . because the ADAS thinks there's an impending crash with the car infront, which is actually at a safe distance of 100 metres or more . . . the tiny sensor fusion based computer chip in your €100,000 BMW M5 cannot interpret the fact that you'll safely drive around the car infront as you accelerate & not drive into the car infront . . . AI computation don't understand that humans drive cars to get from point A to point B not to crash into other cars on purpose . . . bcos no matter how advanced the tech world becomes it'll never be as good as human perception . . .

Why the constant comments in all the reviews about scratchy surfaces. Surely this fairly irrelevant compared talking about, how noisy the car is at 70 mph on motorway, or how the car performs in the 30 to 50 and 50 to 70 accelerations. It's a nice car, but considering I got a 16000 miles from new 8 series for 38.5k,I just do not see the value 2nd hand market on it will be good in time

The gear stock on the side, like American cars used to have 40 or 50 years ago, probably still do on some. I don't know I haven't driven an American car in a long time.
