@@lordrichardson4447 I think he exemplifies for me the idea of someone who sounds really knowledgeable until they talk about something you are knowledgeable about and then you realize how satisfied they are to regurgitate talking points without concern for doing their due diligence to investigate and verify. He just put out a short regurgitating headlines about infowars being sold to the onion and completely neglected the controversy around the 'auction' entirely. It feels a bit like when you realize that your parents or teachers don't know any more about a subject than you do and that they speak with authority not because they know more and want to help but because they want not to be confronted or challenged.

Same thing with language, people like Hermann Muller and now the Nostratic linguists are often ignored because it's already been accepted 20 years ago that "it's a coincidence", and now any new evidence against that is lumped into "it's a coincidence" group with no re-evaluation of the total weight of the evidence. It's like they have selective blindness, they look at each case individually and refuse to ever actually look at them in relation to each other. Actually a rectangle with manageable size stones is the most practical way to construct millenia old structures. Transporting 100 ton stones and stacking them hundreds of feet high is extremely un practical and even with our most advanced technology it's extremely difficult to transport one 50 ton stone several miles, yet we find these structures all over the ancient world. If it was so easy and practical there would be an easy to understand explanation for this phenomenon yet "experts" offer dozens of different explanations that don't properly explain half of the mystery.

The theory of continental drifting wasn't proposed until 1912. This theory didn't exist when these maps were created so it absolutely wasn't the basis for his multiple maps. Just a small amount of research easily confirms this. The different maps were based on the knowledge that ocean levels rise and fall over time.

No. Timaeus, who tells the story, notes that it is based on research done by Solon into the tale (specifically names and their meanings). Solon is said to have found that early Egyptians writings, which he was able to translate, and thus gain the information sought. Then Timaeus says that his great-grandfather had obtained the original writing, which ended up in Timaeus possession. Solon (670-560 BCE) lived long before Plato (428-423 - 348 BCE). Hope that helps to clear things up 😊

I couldn't get through Graham Hancock's show because it's so unbelievably stupid. I thought I could stomach it because of the beautiful B-roll of archaeological sites, but no. I made it 3 episodes in before I couldn't stand the stupid. The problem is he starts from a premise I largely agree with (ice age civilization was probably a lot more advanced than we generally think) and then jumps to THEY SPANNED THE GLOBE AND HAD AIRPLANES AND BLACKJACK AND HOOKERS, and never shows any evidence at all. Because there isn't any. Meanwhile he has an episode talking about how humans have been in North America for far longer than we traditionally believed, saying "archaeologists don't want you to know this," WHILE HE'S TALKING TO AN ARCHAEOLOGIST WHO WORKS ON THE SITE, TELLING YOU ABOUT IT. He's a classic grifter who baits you by telling you that what "they" told you is a lie, so you believe whatever he says.

It may be worth noting that historians didn't think Plato's Atlantis was real, but it's equally noteworthy that Plato NEVER said that it was just allegorical pontification. Just go read what he said yourselves, and you will see that he talks about it as a real part of human history. Historians just ASSUME that he made it up, similar to how they assumed the city of Troy wasn't real until it was found. It's actually pretty annoying, on par with anthropology dismissing thousands of native histories as myths because they don't fit into the one "true" narrative that they have curated. The same narrative that rejected history being longer than 6,000 years old until Gobekli Tepe was found and dated to 12,000 years old. Anatomicslly modern humans have been around for over 300,000 years, so to say that there definitely weren't any civilizations until the last 4 or 5 percent of history is not science, it's dogma.

Well said! It's the same reaction from today's tenured archeologists as geologists back in the day when Alfred Wegener first proposed the theory of Continental Drift with the clear eyed observations of the shapes of continents and the similarity of species where they once connected. But all the geologists of the day booed him off the stage, without any consideration of his theory, because it was counter to their entrenched views and because he was a meteorologist by training. But he was also a trained observer without the ossification of the imaginary faculties too often conveyed by influential teachers. Jump forward to today when Johnny is presenting the once decried theory that scientists now totally accept as part of the presentation. Yes, at that time they did not understand plate tectonics, but they didn't really give Wegener's theory a real hearing. Now in the time I've been reading about ideas of a lost ancient civilization, we have learned more out about the Younger Dryas catastrophes between 12, 800 to 11,500 years ago ( right at the time frame Plato dated the destruction of Atlantis, btw) and seen the most ancient organized societies emerge in Turkey dated during this same time frame. Atlantis may have been only one part of a world-wide civilization -- with a technology advanced but different from our own -- but no serious researcher today is proposing Scott-Elliot's fantasies. Johnny, I love your work, but you are at risk of doing the same thing Wegener's critics did -- hanging on to the status quo when serious, intriguing questions are being raised.

@exkiller47
@exkiller47 2 күн бұрын
It's not that historians assumed Plato made it up, but rather that there is no evidence beyond his remarks on Atlantis. No other ancient texts or sources mention Atlantis, and it's difficult to claim it was a real place based on just one person's account. Additionally, there is no physical evidence supporting the existence of Atlantis. With the story of Troy, there are multiple sources and accounts of the Trojan War, along with substantial physical evidence. Regarding the claim that anthropology dismisses thousands of Native histories as myths, it’s true that in the past, some anthropologists held that view. However, this is no longer the case. Today, Indigenous oral histories are frequently used by anthropologists and archaeologists to better understand cultures and to discover new sites once inhabited by their ancestors. For instance, if you look into archaeology in British Columbia, you'll find many examples of Indigenous communities and archaeologists collaborating to uncover and preserve history. One key thing to understand about archaeology is that it seeks to explore history's unknowns through evidence. It is not based on dogma. While we cannot say with certainty that human civilizations existed 200,000 years ago, because there is no proof, the dates given for early civilizations are based on the evidence currently available. That said, archaeologists and anthropologists are open to revising these dates as new discoveries emerge. While some individuals may resist change, that is not representative of the entire field.

I wasn’t good. The book he’s basing it off has nothing to do with Graham Hanncocks or Carlsons theories. The books first page says “Lemuria” which neither have ever mentioned. Lemuria is easily debunked as related to regions of where Lemurs spread from. This is a cherry picked, vague hack job form of Journalism, he then stemmed the modern movement of people theorizing potential ancient civilizations and connected them to Lemuria & the bases that Hanncocks arguments are based off of views from the story of Noah which is where the whole Aryian shit comes from which Hanncock doesn’t support. It’s Johnny getting paid by “big archeology”. Usually love Johnnys videos too & the non-partisan view from his journalistic perspective but this is his worst video yet promoting straight biases. A twenty minute video isn’t gonna debunk something that has many more arguments than Johnny has proposed. PS I don’t even believe in Atlantis, I do believe this is hit job journalism here.

There is a lot more compelling evidence out there for a lost civilization that this guy fails to mention, but he's know for distorting the truth. The story of Atlantis was passed down orally to Plato from his distant relative Solon who had heard the story from Egyptian priests during his exile in Egypt. According to the Egyptian priests the destruction of Atlantis occurred 9,000 years before Solon's visit, placing it at 9,600BC. Which aligns perfectly with the melting of the glaciers following the end of the last Ice Age and the rapid rises in sea levels. There's also Gobekli Teppe which predates what was previously believed to be the oldest civilization (Ggantija) by 5,000 years and its 6,000 years older than Stonehenge... Lastly, the oldest known Homo Sapiens remains are 300,000 years old and that's just what we've been able to find. Do you really think humans just walked around earth living in tepees for 290,000 years before they came together and formed civilizations??

First of all it was not plato claiming his ancestor told him the story, but a character within the story Plato was telling. That’s hardly evidence at all. There’s no evidence anywhere that the ancient priest of Egypt knew of Atlantis. Secondly, “lining up perfectly with the end of the last Ice Age” and especially “rapid sea level rise” is a huge stretch. The end of the last Glacial Maximum was a very long process with no fully proven start and end date. All we have is many scientific theories that give us a general range of a process of decline starting 19,000 years ago and ending 11,000 years ago. Doesn’t seem very aligned to me. Secondly, rapid is a very strong word. Sea level rise during this period showed a rise of about ~1 meter per century. While rapid compared to today, that’s still rather slow. You’re telling me this supposed ultra advanced civilization couldn’t survive that? Next you mention Gobekli Tepe. Who do you think did all the research on that site that you mention. Archeologists. Scientists fully recognize and acknowledge that site, and have rewritten their understanding of history because they discovered it. There is no widely accepted “start of civilization” by scientists because civilization is a subjective word. Gobekli Tepe is a Neolithic site. Scientists already knew people were farming and living sedentary lives. To believe they could build great structures isn’t to large of a stretch. That’s the difference between you and science. You start at an end point and only listen to evidence that supports your view. Science looks at evidence and comes to a conclusion based of that. If new evidence is found, they will change their view. Finally you say you don’t believe that people just “lived in teepees for 280,000 years”. Okay? That’s not evidence. Just because you find something hard to believe doesn’t mean it’s not true. It’s not that scientist say “there was no civilization until 5,000 years ago and before everyone lived in teepees”. Scientists say “we don’t have evidence of civilization before x amount of years”. You also don’t seem to understand how long it takes to become sedentary. It is a very long process to domesticate plants for consumption. Thousands and thousands of years. Look up Tseostinte, the ancestor of corn. Imagine trying to turn that into modern corn without modern genetic engineering. It would take millennia. Besides, no scientists are saying ancient humans were “cave men in teepees”. They were just as smart, intelligent, and creative as us. They just lived different life styles. It seems your belief in Atlantis comes not from a place of evidence but from a fundamental misunderstanding of science. Turn off the misinformation KZbin channels you’re watching that twist real evidence and go read a book. You’ll find that scientists have very good evidence to believe what they believe.

@@penance_for_peterNoone can disagree with that Peter. However, I'd like to argue that our understanding of early civilizations could be flawed in particular due to survivor bias. For example, maybe we accept the idea that "modern" civilizations started with Mesopotamia only because we haven't discovered any civilizations that existed earlier? I think many would agree that the discovery of ruins from an even earlier civilization would rival our common belief regarding the start of human civilization in Iraq. I'm sure before Mesopotamia was hypothesized as the first civilization, it was a later civilization, and a later one before the former's discovery. Nevertheless, this is just my personal thoughts on this matter. But I want to be clear that I also don't think they would've been as technologically advanced as many fantasizers believe they were.

Plato did not pull the idea of Atlantis out of thin air. The story came down to him from his ancestor Solon, who heard the story of Atlantis from priests in Egypt. The story was said to be so old that the papyrus scrolls it was written on were disintegrating, and were being transcribed onto the temple walls to preserve it. And the date given for the destruction of Atlantis was very specific, not random. Nah, The story of Atlantis comes from a festival speech of Plato, in which 3 fictional characters meet and one of them, Critias of Athens talks about this story he got from his grandfather who got it from Solon who got it from Egypt. It is very obviously an allegory and was preceded by a story about how Phaethon, sun god Helios son scorched the earth during a joyride with his fathers chariot.

Johnny I usually like your videos but, this wasn’t researched well, In Plato's dialogues, it is mentioned that his ancestor, Solon, traveled to Egypt and learned about Atlantis, he reportedly encountered priests who informed him of the story of Atlantis, describing it as a powerful and advanced civilization that existed thousands of years before his time. This account is presented in Plato's dialogues "Timaeus" and "Critias," where the story of Atlantis is elaborated upon. Both Egypt and Greece describe Atlantis and the Egyptians trace their royal lineage to the rulers of Atlantis

Plato attributes his knowledge of Atlantis to Solon, a renowned Athenian statesman and lawgiver who visited Egypt around 600 BCE. During his visit, Solon reportedly engaged with Egyptian priests in the city of Sais in the Nile Delta. The priests shared with him ancient records about a powerful island civilisation, Atlantis, that existed thousands of years earlier. These records were said to be preserved on temple walls and in written accounts, documenting a catastrophic event that led to Atlantis’s destruction.

There’s the Helike Ruins which was a city in Ancient Greece, which got submerged by a tsunami in 373 BC, during the lifetime of Plato. It’s not an advanced civilization, but it may well have contributed to the Atlantis story with the idea of a sunken city. The coordinates are (38.222E, 22.132N)

Actually there are at least 5 cities (remains of habitations) in the Aegean under water (In mind comes Kehries in Corinth and Paleopolis in Andros). Also in Asia Minor (todays state of Turkey) there is the opposite effect of cities becoming remote from the sea. In the ancient Greek, the term MYTH, μῦθος, refers to unrecorded history, rather than to recorded one, ἱστορία. However, the current historical narrative is religiously biased and consequently avoids the discussion of alternative civilizations; the people still believe the out of Africa hypothesis instead of Denisovian hypothesis as the original species source in order to support the historical aspect of the Eden myth in the middle east.

It’s cities had complex hydraulic systems, and the civilization began declining after a volcanic eruption on the island of Santorini or Cithara. And they traded with Egyptians at their height. It’s Solon of Athens who claimed to find Egyptian records of Atlantis. Which Plato was inspired by to create the story of Atlantis.

Depends on if you're talking about the city of Atlantis or the Island of Atlantis. The city would have been on the Eye of the Sahara and might be the first city from the Bible. The island of Atlantis story is based on the island of Hesperia which is Cyprus. The Minoan civilization of Crete was likely the last of the surviving boat masters of old Atlantis who become the Phoenicians. Asterion who the Athenians make into a monster was known as the half Bull because he was the son of Tectauus the Bull. Asterion was the King of Crete who named the constellations after his family. Taurus is named after his father Tectauus. His grandfather Dorus is considered Heracles to the Dorians. And his great grandfather Hellen is patron of all Greeks and is thought to be the mythical Perseus.

Yeah but Plato was told about Atlantis from the Egyptian stateman and priest Solon, who did not live 9000 years before.
@robo5013
@robo5013 2 күн бұрын
@@ProgressIsTheOnlyEvolution You got the story wrong. Plato said that Timaeus told the story and that he heard it from his grandfather who heard it from Solon who heard it from an Egyptian priest. The problem is the story was written in 350 BC and Solon died in 560 BC or two hundred years before the story was written. There is no way that Timaeus' grandfather lived for over two hundred years to tell him the story. The story of Atlantis is just that, a story. BTW Solon was the ATHENIAN statesman who invented democracy.

Antartica is almost double the size of Brazil, and Brazil itself has the Amazon which is 90% untouched. We are speaking of an area vaster than Russia that is yet untouched (not to mention Russia itself) and the "Science" guys discredit any theory that doesn't fit the one piece of the puzzle they do have, out of the one million piece missing. 🤯

The whole graham Hancock is wild because he doesn’t know mention that he’s looking to find Atlantis. He’s look to find if there was a old ancient civilization out there based on evidence from new things being discovered and trying to compare with old findings. To completely shoot that down just because entertains that Atlantis could be real is crazy because he himself is looking for a old superior civilization.

To Mr. Harris, I really find it incredible that you were able to read this script given your religious persuasion. In the beginning of the last section you described the two ways of discerning whether or not Atlantis has any basis in reality. If you fill in the blanks with your own guesses that make you feel good, or accepting decades of scientific debate and concensus. Do you see the hypocracy?

I like to believe that Atlantis did indeed exist, and that we're slowly uncovering its story. But its story is not one of success. It is one of the darkness that hides in human nature, and of how a society can completely wipe themselves out when they remain slaves to their own egos.

it all started with Plato in western society. and the book you showed in 1:22, the name Lemuria is also given by west. actual name is "Kumari Kandam", but it was not a lost continent but an extension of indian subcontinent in south. but we lost it because of sea level rise after Ice age ended.

i think the craziest thing about human evolution and history is that from all we know, humans used to live in caves for tens of thousands of years. seemingly no technological advancements up to a certain point and i truly wonder if we are just wrong and that these long lost civilizations actually existed and are still buried deep beneath the earth and ocean or are simply lost to time. the progress humanity made within the last thousand years is just crazy when you think about that imo. and realistically, if it was real a million years ago, errosion could have easily destroyed any evidence of it.

Atlantis is likely NEITHER entirely real nor purely myth. Instead, it may represent a blend of an actual historical place and thousands of years of evolving storytelling, which transformed it into the legend we know today. The best way to approach subjects like Atlantis is to maintain a truly open mind, even when considering theories that seem improbable or defy current scientific understanding. At the same time, it’s essential to filter these ideas through a logical and reasoned perspective, recognizing how historical events often evolve into folklore over generations. This balance allows for exploration without abandoning critical thinking. 14:41

The Richat Structure (the “Eye of the Sahara”) in Mauritania is a compelling candidate for the location of Atlantis. This massive circular formation, with its concentric rings, closely matches Plato’s description of Atlantis as a city surrounded by alternating rings of land and water. Thousands of years ago, during a wetter climate and higher sea levels, the Sahara was lush and likely connected to the Atlantic Ocean, placing the Richat Structure in a coastal or island-like environment. Over millennia, tectonic shifts and erosion transformed the area into the desert we see today. The geological features and environmental history make it a strong possibility that this site inspired the Atlantis legend.
