Doubt it. The engine doesn't change gears, because there's no need. No gearbox either. The engine is probably running at constant rpms, slightly varying at times so that it generates more power. So no, that's not how the engine sounds when generating current, sorry. The fake sound is just fake and ridiculous. EDIT: Maybe the sound at the end, where he does 0-60 can be real or at least could make sense. It just sounds like a CVT, going up in rpms and staying there. Not particularly enjoyable to listen to.

@@mircea5013 indeed the sounds it made when driving around were all fake and did not match what the engine was actually doing. The accurate sound was when he did the 0-60 runs. It sounds like a CVT because when you floor it the ECM just tells the engine to sit at peak power RPM. It's actually more responsive than a CVT because you don't have to wait for the "cones" in the gearbox to move around. Probably why the 0-60 times are very impressive for a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine in a sizable car.
@rafawojcik30112 жыл бұрын
@@mircea5013 The thing is that the sound is augmented in the sport mode through speakers, sounds a bit silly I'll give you that. However on normal and eco the sound is purely from the engine, it goes up and down on rpm's to simulate gear changing, "gearbox" is fake but sound is 100% real - for my taste much better than the fake sport one.

just went to a test drive with this car...and the crawling does make the brakes squeak. funny how accurate Matt's reviews are. overall and FANTASTIC car to drive and damn it goes quite well. Suspension is extremely good for such a car and it also stays very flat. the only ? for me is the ground clearance, a bit too low, but I'll see. The only weird thing were the windows. When they raise they have a very sudden action and when they reach the top it feels very rough. anyways

Nice review👍 For some people the new Civic might be more economical than an electric car driving few miles per year or a plug-in hybrid car driving many. Therefore the new Civic with is strange motor combination still makes sense in 2022 even dough it’s a bit expensive. But as we all know quality has its price. For me the new Civic is an absolute dream car I would love to have in my garage

I keep going back to it - Honda is one of a few manufacturers that still makes a proper Right Hand Drive Vehicle. Obviously it's because it's Japanese but look at the latest Toyota Corolla - they stick in the Left Hand Drive Stereo in the UK built cars, possibly as a cost saving, as all Japanese built models have the Stereo controls on the right hand side. For the sake of a few extra pounds I'd gladly pay it for a proper RHD model for my car where the handbrake/ebrake, stereo controls and bonnet release are where they're meant to be - by the driver, not the passenger. It's definitely my OCD but I wish car reviewers would highlight this more often. The only time Ive ever seen it is when the biggest offenders such as Renault and Peugeot don't move their fuse boxes so the cubby is small. Please CarWow Save me !

Just received my Sport Touring in pearl white three days ago here in Canada (made in the UK). Key differences in Canada from the UK versions: we get a gear stick (either manual or CVT), a top option of a 1.5 turbo at 180hp that beats all it competitors in fuel efficiency, the head lining and entire interior is black but standard size sunroof not pano sunroof, steering and rear seats have heating but no rear vents, Bose speakers at the top trim, no fake plastic exhausts (Crome cut outs instead). Before taxes and delivery.. the top trim was billed to me right under 37000CAD before my Honda royalty discount. I’d say we got the better end of the stick :)

Your car is still using the older engines of the 10th gen civic, both are available here on the mk10 hatchback 1.0 Turbo & 1.5 VTEC Turbo with 182 bhp. I think the european model is definitely a lot more advanced compared to american versions, and ofcourse more fuel efficient (big difference) to normal combustion you got in canada. Sad that you weren't able to get this advanced and performancy updated industry competitive e:HEV system, and better specs in UK for the same price too (further researched, developed and tested for europe therefore this Civic released a year or two later then america) but the manual is always a joy to use. 😉 Still have the mk10 civic turbocharged vtec in manual, and it's a perfect manual. Fun to use, very sporty and gripping (more sportier than the mk11 from all respects) and great to drive too.

My wife has black one. Sport version. She used to drive X diesel Elegance. She didn’t want to change because no manual transmission but after 😅week said “auto” is better. XI looks more exclusive than previous - design and materials inside. Suspension is more quiet and better. Closing door, indicators sound give higher class feeling (in my CR-V worse!). Acceleration wow! Feeling better than Civic X 1,5 CVT I used to drive for few years. Fuel consumption 5,2 on 25 km mixed way (60% city, 40 local village road). Once I could reach 2,9 l/100 km in a city. Has not tested on highway yet. Some minuses are: fuel cup you need to unscrew, no indicator for windshield fluid low level, radio sound quality, can hear tires to much.

The system isn't as weird as you might think. It's used on locomotives since long ago, they're called diesel electric. When running on a non-electrified railway, the diesel engine acts as a generator to produce electric current that powers the electric engine. The locomotive can also draw power directly from the power grid and act as a pure electric one, having its diesel turned off when not needed. Going back to cars - for generating electricity, the combustion engine is usually set up to run in Atkinson cycle, instead of Otto. Don't know about this model in particular, but I guess it's the same. You basically have an electric car, but you're generating your current from fossil fuels. If it seems stupid, not really as there are quite a few benefits: should be quite silent, and it will always run at optimal rpm, so that it's always as efficient as possible. If it would run as a classic engine, the efficiency would vary greatly, depending on how the car is driven and how gears are changed. Also, the engine's wear should be lower. Now, it's true that it still matters how you drive it, as a heavy foot would require more current and the engine would need to feed on more gas. But, nevertheless, it's still more efficient this way. I guess that at higher speeds the engine starts powering the wheels directly, because electric engines stop being efficient at that point. The bad part is the system gets quite complex. Also the fake engine sound is horrible decision. Hope you can turn that shit off. Have real engine sound or don't try to fake it.

Main gripe of a 2017 is the ABS sensors failing usually in wet weather. Just had my second one changed in 9 months. Puts all the sensors into amber mode. Too many sensors on modern cars.
