This is the all-new Honda Civic!
The previous edition of the Civic was one of the most popular & recognisable family cars on the road. The question is, does the all-new edition offer enough to sway you away from a different family hatchback?
Well, let’s see what’s on offer. In terms of the design, it’s markedly different to the previous model, with a swooping tailgate around the rear through to an updated front with LED headlights and a new grille.
On the inside, you’ll be treated to a simple but well-laid-out dash. There are good quality materials throughout most of the cabin, along with physical dials to make it easy to manage climate controls. The infotainment has also been updated, although it’s pretty middle of the road. Thankfully though, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard!
Considering it’s a family hatchback, it’s still not the cheapest. The entry-level edition starts at just under £30,000! But does it offer enough for you to still choose it over the competition? You’ll have to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

@@exdakira The engine build quality is very good and I am sure the battery will last for a long long time before any wear & tear (judging from the mk10 civic which I already own and it's already a superb car, this mk11 is definitely even better), when it comes to build quality I went to Honda's beautiful showroom and sat inside this car.. Yup.. It feels literally like an Audi inside it's so superb! It might be a much simpler interior then my car and streamlined simpler looks, but it looks hella clean and clever eith how all the things are placed. Build quality itself is definitely next level, competing with Mazda and other premium competitors. It's 100% a car to go for (best value for money yet)

The 1.5 T had it's share of oil dilution problems. But Honda sorted that out by now. It's common sense that any of those tiny, turbo charged engines will not run forever like the naturally aspirated ones used to. But Honda gives you an option of 2.0l NA for this car which is what I would go for.

I found it interesting that the UK gear selector is buttons, because the US version shows a traditional gear selector. And I have to admit, the buttons looks much more open and modern. Also, the US version does nor get a hybrid yet. I don't always see the logic in car manufacturers' market specific choices. I have owned 8 Civics in my life, and this model seems more mature without being stuffy. Maybe it should be number 9? Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9. Doubt it. The engine doesn't change gears, because there's no need. No gearbox either. The engine is probably running at constant rpms, slightly varying at times so that it generates more power. So no, that's not how the engine sounds when generating current, sorry. The fake sound is just fake and ridiculous. EDIT: Maybe the sound at the end, where he does 0-60 can be real or at least could make sense. It just sounds like a CVT, going up in rpms and staying there. Not particularly enjoyable to listen to.

@@mircea5013 indeed the sounds it made when driving around were all fake and did not match what the engine was actually doing. The accurate sound was when he did the 0-60 runs. It sounds like a CVT because when you floor it the ECM just tells the engine to sit at peak power RPM. It's actually more responsive than a CVT because you don't have to wait for the "cones" in the gearbox to move around. Probably why the 0-60 times are very impressive for a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine in a sizable car.
@rafawojcik3011
@rafawojcik3011 Жыл бұрын
@@mircea5013 The thing is that the sound is augmented in the sport mode through speakers, sounds a bit silly I'll give you that. However on normal and eco the sound is purely from the engine, it goes up and down on rpm's to simulate gear changing, "gearbox" is fake but sound is 100% real - for my taste much better than the fake sport one.

You're a physical knob, Matt, and that's why we love you! Messing about aside, this seems like a step back to the styling cues of the FK, but with a modern twist! That driveline is trick too, I'm shocked hybrids haven't adopted the 'diesel/electric' locomotive approach. I do recall Rover (when still in charge of the R50 Mini project) did look into an indirect petrol/electric drive train. I wish it had come to be as it would have sidestepped the crap range of electric cars back in the day and still got good economy. P.s. I love the way it 'sounds'. Would be great if you use any engine sound from a detroit diesel to a 90s Renault V10 F1 engine 😂

I actually like the fact that right now Honda uses the old-school USB ports, because as of right now most chargers are still have USB-A to Lightning/ USB-C cables. Also, when the most chargers become USB-C to lightning/ USB-C, they can just change it in the newer models for less than £1/ car

Most use USB-C to USB-C or Lighting now, the USB-C port can offer up to 100w of charging and power delivery. Your USB-A port is extremely relative to that. For the everyday man, this means the fastest charging speeds.

The over quoting 0-60 time (quoted more time than real) thing is what Honda has always done with their hybrids. I think the quoted 0-60 time is what’s achieved in the eco mode. The reason your 2nd run took longer is likely that it’s run the battery down in your earlier attempt
