Well, there is a normal type r for you if you want all that, which I'd personally pick. I kinda feel like this limited edition is a bit unnecessary tho, unless they put different engines with different power output, if its just for all that weight reduction, its pointless, since anyone who would take track driving seriously would pretty much reduce the weight themselves 🤔

5:20 those vents are functional. If you open the hood, the air from the hood scoop enters the fenders via a channel and exits through those vents for extra downforce.

We love ours and we will never sell. We have the 2017 Type R. At least we have the stereo the air con and the deadening. I wouldn't buy an R without it. We drive it around as a daily and love the feel, then again we love the hard ride and the big car feel. Oh and by the way we are in our 60's ! Great for touring around in big Australia.

I love the look of this Civic Type R for now as opposed to the new models to come out in a year or so; the news ones look too bland, dulled down and European. It’s a combination of “Honey I Shrunk the Accord” while also looking like a Jetta. I like this one’s edginess; and while not everyone agrees with the styling, this one has style and is recognizable. I suppose once those 22’ models come out, we’ll see just how good they look and perform; just first impressions make it look much more bland than this one’s style. They could have made the Civic stay an edgy “boy racer” car and have the Accord be the “grown up, reserved adult” car with an Accord Type R variant. Speaking of; I’d love to see Honda bring back an Accord wagon since they only have sedans now and no longer any coupes. Interesting to see they removed some creature comforts like the air con and infotainment on the limited editions; like the old NSX-R and S-Zero.

The wheel arch vents are not fake. They're connected 2 the hood vent. Air comes in muddle, which then splits left n right then air exits the fended vents. I work at Honda btw

It's a real diffuser my man, its works with the flat underside to create the "Venturi effect" the whole car has real aerodynamics. As for the front fenders there are air channels under the hood which direct air to the sides. I learnt a lot whilst looking for mine, though you say it is stiff, its not as stiff as the fk2.

The vents on the sides of the car get air channeled through them from the hood scoop, if you pop the hood you will notice a Metal Duct that runs from the center of the Hood/Bonnet to the sides of the Bonnet which are met with holes that lead to the sides of the car where those side vents are. They are indeed Functional and not fake.

CTR owner here and I have to agree (having driven many cars) that THIS is the best car I have ever driven overall. 2017-2019 was great... but the 2020 - 2021... even greater. Honda made some improvements on the latter 2 years (google it). Anyway, are the vents, winglets functions? YES! This is a factory RACE CAR and has the looks of a dragon in flight whether you love it or hate it. Paying over MSRP? This car is worth every penny! It's a lean mean canyon carving machine! The hood scoop’s primary function is to cool the engine bay by bringing cool air under the hood and pushing hot air out. However, Honda noted that the scoop is able to reduce lift at speed by relieving pressure from underneath as well. An aluminum piece on the hood’s underside serves as a rain gutter and helps keep water from entering the engine bay via the scoop. The Wing produces over 65 lbs of down torque @ 124mph. The Civic Type R’s front end vents and winglets that both increase downforce and create an aerodynamic “air curtain” around the car. The Type R’s air curtain is formed by the front splitter’s winglets that work in conjunction with the fascia’s side vents to channel air around the front wheels and down the sides of the car. Honda claims that moving the air this way limits turbulence coming off the car’s 20-inch wheels and tires. Located between the bottom of the front bumper cover and the Type R’s chin spoiler is a pair of hard-to-see vents. These are tasked with channeling cold air to the chunky 13.8-inch front brake discs. Our test found that the Type R’s brakes are practically fade free; they were able to bring the 3111-pound hatch to a stop from 70 mph in just 142 feet.

Some smaller wheels and/or some more meat on the tyres, as well as some spacers would do wonders for making these look more refined. No denying they're absolute weapons in terms of performance though, and they're the best new hatchback you can buy for giving you a proper driving experience. If they're going to get rid of the infotainment and the AC to shed weight, they might as well had gone all out and got rid of the rear seats and put a strut brace in there instead though
