I bought my type R in 2017 because I loved the styling and the driving aspect is something I think most would have to experience. However, I moved to Japan in 2018(and still live here) and quickly realized the Type R styling is on par to this specific market. I see Toyota SUV's etc. that look just as "transformer" like but they just never made it to the U.S. or European markets. I do think over time this car will receive more love because it is unique and the driving experience will stand out as a great driving experience from this time period.

I think most people like the Type-R, *despite* its looks, than because of its looks. People are willing to keep their barf-bags handy when approaching the vehicle, with its loud design and most of the plastic vents being thoroughly non-functional, but once behind the wheel, get to enjoy the mechanical tuning and the overall magic of the package.

@@Dance1617 people are paying the markup. If you check out the forums or used market in California you’ll see that many of the sellers paid on average 5k over MSRP. I shopped for one for 2 years on and off, contacting dozens of dealerships in the process and sitting at the negotiating table with a few. The lowest a dealership was willing to go was $2k over MSRP with an additional $2k of useless dealership installed “packages” ($4k over). Obviously, the aero bits are tacked on to a vehicle designed around commuter practicality and fuel economy with some more meaningful alterations, which is why I added the note that the Senna is built around functional aero to a much greater extent as that car is a contender for peak example of function over form. @ All the haters. Amazing blend of ride/handling due to good design and adaptive dampers. Awesome storage. Reasonable gas mileage. Insanely reliable. Quick. Brakes that will suck your eyes balls out of your face. Everyone knows the handling prowess, but many don’t realize how light and tossable these are. Best Seats ever. Insanity levels of interior space. In person, they look way less out there than in pics/video. Get a slightly lowered one without the atrocious stock wheels, and it actually looks pretty normal. To many of us Type R fans/owners, what’s “out there” is a two ton land sled with proportions of a 88 caddy. (Yes I mean mustang/camaro/corvette/and ESPECIALLY challenger).

Surprisingly enough at 400 hp torque steer is less of a problem but *wheel hop* is. On another note, similar to how f8x M3/4 with equal length midpipes can make the car actually sound great, this car can sound great with the right exhaust setup. What I’ve learned from my previous exhaust setups is that this car needs resonators, and a lot of them. My current exhaust setup has 3 resonators (1 main and 2 rear helmholtz) with a catted downpipe and I think it sounds good. It has a higher note but without the ricer rasp. Definitely not going to be a spoon s2000, but I wouldn’t consider it a bad sound. Also: from the Facebook groups I’m in most of the owners’ age are high 30s and 40s. Interesting considering the exterior styling.

Wheel hop is solved by upgrading the compliance bushings in all the strut based Civics - whiteline and RV6 made kits ....im grabbing the RV6 kit. Im 41 and been building these Civics/Integras for 25 years. Most of the owners are similar to me, make plenty of money to pay markup and drop another 15 to 25k in mods after the fact lol. We waited a LONG time for a proper Civic Type R to come - most of us older guys are making up for lost time AND its 100% practical to haul kids/family around if you still have little ones. I prefer the track/gundam styling - aero is awesome stock and even better with aftermarket aero parts. If they brought a 2 door integra type R I would probably buy that too lol. Bought a 97 GSR new ....stayed in the family for 20 years....couldnt afford the 10k to 15k markup on the 25k Integra Type R back in 97

@dil69693 жыл бұрын
This generation of Civic honestly looks its best as the Type-R. After having driven a regular CVT version of this platform, the styling doesn't match the driving character. It's a commuter car that's wearing the clothing of a sports car. As the Type-R, it's performance lives up to the loud styling. If they have a Type R version of the new generation, I'm very interested to see the design. I definitely won't miss all the ridiculous fake vents.
@quixomega3 жыл бұрын
I think you're right, I recently shopped a 2021 Civic Hatchback and ended up buying a Mazda instead. The Civic was a bit too compromised by the CVT, but I didn't really want to buy a manual. Mazda's 6-speed slushbox is totally acceptable.
@TassieLorenzo3 жыл бұрын
Goose didn't mention it, but it's worth bearing in mind the FK8 Type R is a styling evolution of the FN2 Mugen Civic Type R which evolved into the FK2 Civic Type R styling and then this FK8. Folks might not agree with the styling of the FK8, but there is a logic to it. I prefer the smoother lines of the FK2 Type R myself. :)
@Eldaino9993 жыл бұрын
As a regular commuter car, it handles better than most, arguably better than a Mazda hatch and golf, tho I prefer the golfs steering. But the styling is very loud; my girlfriend has a 10th gen sport hatch and constantly runs into dumb dudes trying to race her, just on account of the cars looks.
@caglioso3 жыл бұрын

I have a feeling that the next R will look better but the original will be collectible. I don’t like the look but wouldn’t mind driving it every day. In the end I care much more about what it is and not what it looks like, and I certainly don’t care what others think.

@GIZZMOTORSPORTS3 жыл бұрын
@@Vashed555 I'm not talking status, I'm talking performance. And Lamborghini has zero racing history, it's a status, ricer on another level car. At the end of the day, after 2000 honda cheaped out on suspension on the civic. Modded eg/ek fwd civic times around the nurburgring are better than any stock 10th gen type R can ever achieve. In a straight line everyone knows the type R is a dog. The only thing the 17 year olds like about the civic type R is the ease of driving with the rev match.

@@GIZZMOTORSPORTS Let me make this very clear, then - I’m making a point that this argument of “Ackshually, my CRX is faster than this new Type R - LULUL” is as old as time, and pointless. When you start modifying a car, you do so to have fun, because if you do it to achiever internet clout and to make comments to eboys about “running circles around the new Hype R!” then you’re missing the point of enthusiast cars entirely. But this time the European Union has the political ambition to kill the internal combustion engine though, at least in the EU auto market... Between needing to meet Euro 7 emissions regulations and needing to meet 65 g CO2/km fleet average for your vehicles by 2032, you are going to struggle to make a business case for designing new internal combustion engines for the European market. [For reference, this Civic Type R makes 200 g CO2/km so it is nowhere close to meeting the requirements.] In 2032, Honda would need to sell four EVs for every one Civic Type R they sell in Europe just to balance out their fleet CO2 emissions... Even in 2021 you need to meet 95 g CO2/km in the EU, so two Honda e need to be sold for every one Civic Type R sale in Europe!
