Technically filler but in dragon ball kakarot and a few other times it shows goku being a good dad and showing gohan how to survive in the wild like a boy scout. It was honestly bad writing after the frieza saga that made him seem like a bad dad. Tbh it's fair toriyama made things up as he went along and his editors were constantly telling him to change shit. that's why cell and buu were so poorly written compared to the previous arcs

The animation between Goku x4 Kaioken and Vegeta was actually really good. I could see art improvement with that animation done very well.
