Casa Playa at Wynn Encore | We Can't Recommend this Las Vegas Restaurant

Unfortunately this was our most disappointing meal in Las Vegas in 2 years. Where did you have your least favorite or most disappointing meal in Las Vegas?

Easily the most disappointing for me was Catch at Aria. Tiny portions. Insultingly tiny. Thank goodness it was on comp dollars or i’d have really been mad.

Oh, I should probably change my answer to America cafe at New York-New York, since they managed to serve glass shards in my sister’s breakfast. 😱😨😰😭 That was about 15 years ago, but I can hold a grudge. 😏

We are lovers of food. And don’t want to send people to a bad spot. We don’t get paid to pump up these places so no reason to give them a falsely positive review. We love Vegas for sure but not gonna give a great review when it wasn’t.

That's the great thing about Vegas. This restaurant just didn't cut it. But there is always another one that just might. Some people go to Vegas and expect the best in restaurants, some get it. Some don't. Thanks for the video and the advice.

I’m sorry you had such a disappointing experience. You’re right, you expect the best quality meals and the highest levels of customer service when paying those prices and dining at one of the best resorts in Las Vegas. If you get a ‘meh’ meal at Peppermill or a similar place, it’s easier to shrug off the disappointment. On the plus side, you’ve already had many good to great meals in Las Vegas over time, and have many more places to try in the future!

My husband and I did a trip to Vegas in Dec 2020. There was a show on Food Network called Vegas Prizefight where the winner became the head chef at a million dollar restaurant at Flamingo. Though we weren’t 100 percent sure, we found out it was the Bugsy’s Steakhouse. Apparently we went the week after he left, so the menu was pretty standard. The entrance is cool (like a speakeasy) but the restaurant is just boring. The waitress we had was nice, but my steak was overdone and the overall dinner was disappointing. For $220 plus tip, it’s definitely my worst Vegas meal. My only other worse meal in a casino was in March at the steakhouse in Biloxi. Love your videos. Keep up the good work

We used to eat in a little Mexican restaurant in San Luis in Colorado. You'd get big, huge sopapillas with honey butter and homemade chokecherries syrup for under $10.00. What a treat. Those ladies knew how to cook. Can anyone make a big, puffy sopapilla anymore?

This year we will end up with 3 at Wynn and 4 at MGM. Wynn offers have been good. Their “basic” room feels much better than MGMs basic rooms and gotten double the resort credit and Freeplay but can only book one trip at a time whereas MGM we have multiple booked at once which is nice

It's tough to evaluate bc everything you ordered I don't enjoy. Mole is least favorite. Birria is so trendy average I wouldn't even try it. And bananas are the worst. That said, service can make or break an experience and it sounds like it broke it here. That's unfortunate but good to know bc I stray away from Mexican in Vegas as it is and definitely won't be trying this place out. Thanks, Rachael! 🤗

Javier's is NO Casa Playa, it's so much better...sorry you got led astray that they were similar. CP is trying for that upscale crafty experience which makes the dishes fall flat sometimes or expectation-wise, disappoint. And that is so odd that the waiter did say, would you like another dish or try again with the dish...to just take it with no resolution is just not right. I went to brunch on Sunday and had eggs benedict and when i cut into my eggs, they were hard boiled, no joke! So i promptly said, try again...and they brought out another one with eggs perfectly poached! You guys are SO nice, but remember you are the customers paying high prices at these Vegas restaurants so dont be afraid to speak your mind...you can be nice about it and they will be nice in return. :)

We agree - they are definitely not comparable. It was so odd in the moment that it took a bit of reflection to truly understand the experience. I had a bad dish at Delmonico, the waitress offered to take it away almost the second she sat it down, clearly it didn’t look right to her, but I said I’d try it, she returned quickly and took it away asking if I wanted something else. Didn’t suggest a remake which I figured meant someone new was on that station, or something. She was great and I didn’t feel bad about it for a second. At Cut I had a waaaaaay overcooked steak, it was grey, and no one came to check on me and I couldn’t flag anyone down, worst service I’ve ever had in vegas. But I know most people have great meals there. A great waiter can make or break a bad meal.

We actually were disappointed with our service at Cut as well - the food was great but we were basically seated and waited 20 minutes to have any wait staff come by for water or drink order, was close to walking out. The food was great, but the service threw the whole experience off. Delmonico is definitely one that I would like to hit up in the future - thank you for sharing!

was very disapointed with the food here, I ordered a chicken casadilla and it was the mos bland thing I ever had, the flatbread was puple and tasted like paste, while the chicken had zero flavour and was drowned it a stretchy mozzerella cheese, that was also flavourless and rubbery. the salsa and dip was also very plain and the chips were greasy. I wont mention the food that my girls ordered. I felt bad too so i said I was not hungry, when the waiter asked.

I'm so sorry you guys didn't have a great experience. I want to thank you guys however for being honest with us. So many social media influencers go on and on about some product or a place and then when someone like me goes to these places because we love that persons channel so we trust their opinions on food and products. It is sad how some will say something nice just for clocks or because the product is paying them to talk about their product. I don't think I have heard of any restaurant in the world where the food is king, not the decor, atmosphere or social media. Imagine a restaurant in an industrial area in a bare bones building like Costco but they have top notch food with reasonable prices because all of the money went into ingredients/cooking/chef, not the decor or real estate.

Could it be that the place is good, but what you ordered was bad? I’ve been to restaurants that have fantastic entrees, but one or two entrees aren’t good. That doesn’t mean they’re necessarily bad, or that I wouldn’t recommend them. Just my 0.2 cents.

That definitely could be but when you order $150 worth of 2 entrees that both disappoint you it’s not worth trying again when there are so many great options in Vegas. If they have two “bad” menu items then they should take them off in my opinion

I could not help but feel bad for you after watching your video. A lot of us have been in the same boat. You go to a place with high expectations, spend a lot of money, and the food is not good or you do not like it. In you case, the food was not good. I had a similar experience at Ruth Chris Steakhouse a few years back with wife for our anniversary. Ordered the Cowboy ribeyes with sides of veggies. The steaks were drowned in butter and so were the veggies. We barely put a dent in our food. Took the ribeyes steak home and gave them to our dog. After we soaked the three sticks of butter out of them. Like you at Play, we liked the service and the drinks. Its a hard pill to swallow, high expectations, spending a lot of money, and not liking your food........PS...You should write to the management of the restaurant and complain. Maybe they will refund your money. If they do not, go on Yelp and bash them with a negative review.

There were probably people there at the same time who loved their meal. At the Spice Market Buffet many years ago, my wife didn't like anything, while she heard some woman say it was the best buffet she ever had.

I haven't experienced a different kind of place to eat that's wonderful since they started mass producing restaurant product and everything started tasting the same. No longer were people starting restaurants with recipe's from the old country or grandma's kitchen, cooking food from generation after generation of feeding family and community.. using food that they sourced themselves. That's what a business used to be. However, contemporary ALL RESTAURANTS get their food from the same source.. it's frozen fast food. Slightly better then McDonald's.. because the restaurant environment changes. Same with cruise ship food etc... looks and smells great yet none of it nutritious.. but it is expensive. Have you noticed that your class of people is full of whales? But you're not healthy...

My rule is never eat expensive Mexican. There are too many cheap Mexican places with excellent food. And wow that place was noisy! Save expensive for steak and seafood restaurants.

Considering how much you seemed to enjoy most of the items it doesn't seem fair to give the overall restaurant a negative review. You seem way too picky and I almost feel like eating there just to spite you. Make sense?

Go ahead. Something you should remember is that most of the time we record bites one maybe two. Then get a feel for the rest of the meal, restaurant, staff after. We won’t return but feel free to check it out if you want

Personally for my money I would recommend Toca Madera, Javiers or Viva over this place and similar high end atmosphere/menu
