@anneb8893 жыл бұрын
@@richcuma Casablanca really isn’t a boring movie. It does have great dialogue. If explosions are more of your thing, then maybe you find it boring. I always remember it comes out in 1942…..WWII will still go on for a few more years, we have no idea the allies are going to win, I can only imagine the tension everyone must of felt at the time. Plus Claude Raines is such a great character actor.
@richcuma3 жыл бұрын
@@anneb889 I'm sure that you're right. I'm just applying some levity to what Jeb implies is a long, dragged out dialog based film. That seems to be the tone of this channel. No disrespect to Casablanca and certainly no disrespect to the people who lost their lives during a horrible War.

One thing though, Renault and Rick disappear on the same night that Nazi was killed and Renault and Rick were there. Everyone is going to know they did it so no one else is going to take the blame for it.

Nonsense, people go missing in Casablanca all the time. It was probably one of the usual suspects on a murder spree.
@flibber1233 жыл бұрын
@@eldorados_lost_searcher I didn't write the script so I could be wrong but isn't it true that Rick and Renault are both prominent residents of Casablanca? They aren't just 'people', they are VIPs there. Isn't it true that Strasser was publicly seen in the presence of both men? Isn't it true that both men were seen at the scene of the murder? Isn't it true that both prominent men disappear on that same night? Keep in mind that Renault said round up the usual suspects. So they will. Now what? Well Renault himself is gone. Kind of conspicuous wouldn't you say?

Harry Reasoner on 60 minutes asserted that "Casablanca was and is the greatest movie ever made. And in many ways it is. 1942 was the hardest year- and well the kids that took their girlfriends to the movie would be slugging it out soon after in North Africa, Europe, and in the Pacific. On top of it all, they were writing the script while shooting the movie. And it came out way better than anybody would have guessed at the time. If you have not seen it, do so, it's worth the time, and you should pair it up with "The Cheap Detective" a comic parody it would be a nice way to spend an evening. Now to get a watch party organized with Jeb running a commentary in real-time.

Claude and Bogie said at the end they were gonna go off to Brazzaville. Which as an aside was the HQ of the French free forces and the Foreign Legion after the fall of Paris. Basically they said let's us skip this neutral territory, go to the Congo and join in the fight.

Which always bugged me, because they're just walking, casually strolling along as if Brazzaville were only a hop skip and jump away, whereas in fact it is halfway across the continent, through a desert and a jungle. They didn't have Google Maps back then, but today Google tells me that this is a 7000-kilometre journey that will take 60 days on foot (not counting stops), and that's assuming _no_ war (or other unusual traffic).
@therubicon3 жыл бұрын
@@tobybartels8426 I presume that was just their commitment. There were ocean liners, but the Germans just might sink it it was going to free French territory.
