I have always loved this first Cello sonata of Beethoven simply because of its overall sunny character and youthful exuberance. These two legendary figures create a perfect dialogue, and of course there is the unique richness of the Casals tone.

El violoncelo en manos de Casals trasciende toda contingencia, da alas a la melodía, la impregna de una llama vivificante y nos devuelve intacto el genio de Beethoven, sin mayor muestra de virtuosismo ni bramido inútil. Suntuoso en su sencillez, escueto en su majestad.
