Hey loves! This weeks video takes us up to the infamous Cascade Saddle on a 4 day hike into the New Zealand backcountry, on an unmarked route to Lochnagar! But not everything went quite to plan, and the route became very sketchy, however the views we did witness were absolutely incredible, the weather was surprisingly on our side, we did a ton of wild camping, and had one of the most amazing mornings we've ever experienced- so slip on your walking boots, were going for a hike.

Wow, what a sunrise with that flock of Kea. Don't think I've ever seen so many of them together.

19:30 I did that, solo I traversed across NW facing slope (19:55), careful not to fall down into Pine Creek! At 1896 on map, I dropped down to Lochnagar Hut for the night. From Dart Hut, it had been a long day The traverse was tough so you made good decision. There certainly exists no other route down to Lochnagar Next day, it was a hard slog out via Shotover to Queenstown Good video. Thanks for posting

Wow! A big well done for completing that! It was such an intense trail, looking back I'd have loved to carried on and make it down to Lochnagar, but we just couldn't pick up any bit of a trail, and it was so sketchy! Maybe we'll give it another whirl one day! Thankyou so much for watching🥰💖

I lived in the last house, at Ox Burn in the early 80's, then to Cozy Del kilometer back, worked in Park. Your decision-making in good weather was as it should be, because otherwise, you are fraught with bad decision-making. Rees Valley Station put musterers up on the tops for those clear days to get sheep off, they tend to rise. Lochnagar and peaks are notorious, it is not known as the BLACK LAKE for nothing. Your fitness levels are as they should be on such days. Whilst I lived and worked in the Park and in Fiordland NP, for some time I never entertained the idea of dropping down there. Love your videos. Stunning Shots. And oh! Schist makes you slide, mica, too, out of control. Please be wary. Test the terrain for your safety. Truck on......Robin

Ahhh no way! That's awesome!! What an epic part of the country to have been living and working in😍 We are definitely very glad to have turned round, as beautiful as it looks, it's not worth the risk at all, we didn’t realise how rough it was actually going be, and had no idea it was known as the Black Lake, thats crazy!! Thankyou so much for your comment, it's really appreciated💗

The kea could destroy your tent/gear. I've heard stories of people having to watch their gear, all night, because a gang of kea were destroying their tent (in the cascade saddle area)
@ShelbyandJordan
@ShelbyandJordan 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Kea's up there have super bad reputation of destroying everyone's tents and gear, so we were super fortunate that they cool with us haha! And it was very hard to turn around😓 But the right decision at the time.. would love to attempt it again from the Shotover Saddle though, thankyou so much for watching too💕

Yes, we heard that too, from alot of people! In some cases hikers end up walking 2hrs to the hut in the middle of the night when the Kea's are really bad, so we were incredibly fortunate🥰
