VR is life changing to me. I love it and it helped me get the closure I needed in life. I was 8 states away when my grandfather passed away and he was the man who had raised me. One random google maps search later I realized the google maps image was years out of date and there he was on street view... on the edge of the lawn and waving at the camera. The other day I had downloaded the VR google earth and was able to stand there and look at him one final time. Get to see my heart and my soul standing in front of me one last time with a smile on his face before years of Chemo therapy and cancer would take it from him. It gave me a chance to witness him at his prime again and I couldn’t wish for a better time to be alive to witness something such as this.

I truly believe that education will be improved 10 fold by mainstream VR in the near future. It is as close to hands on as you can get. It's been proven that sim racers tend to be better at real racing than someone that is starting from just normal road driving. Heavy equipment training is safer in VR. Even surgery and engineering can be tested in virtual space before real world applications are implemented. It wont be much longer til it is in every home, and the standard for education. Much like the PC changed school .
@-taz-4 жыл бұрын
That's just to gain acceptance, like TV started with Lassie and Leave it to Beaver. Once it's accepted, it will fall into a pit, too.

@@celestialeg I was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for my career. I was a trainer too, today my friend has a vive pro and all the controls for a 10,000lb crane. it is considerably safer to learn lifting 10K over property or other workers. I also saw it being used to train drivers at a trucking co I used to lease my truck to. better to learn in a fully controlled environment before you risk others, They have been doing it in flight training for decades.

I'm going to try Eleven: Table Tennis VR soon. I got really into table tennis once when it became a trend at my office, but then the trend died down and I couldn't find anyone to play with. I read professional players are saying the physics on Table Tennis VR are spot on so I'm hoping I can continue the hobby there. :) I didn't know about Oculus Venues, I'm going to try that one out because it's hard to find good classical concerts where I live. The human body simulation looks awesome!! I definitely want to try that one out too. Thanks for the recommendations. I definitely wouldn't use my Rift for working because the resolution is just too low. I guess if you work a lot with images it's okay, but if you work with text the extra space is not very useful because you have to blow the screens up very big to be able to read the text. I don't know about the newer headsets with better resolution. I really hope there is a big CPU breakthrough soon so things can start improving a lot again.

Beat Saber is the only way I can get my GF to care about VR. But it's something! I've been using it to watch movies and shows with friends lately. Really need an upgrade from the original rift so I can start working from VR as well. Are the optics on the Rift S good enough for reading text? Or should I hold out for the Index?

Rift S is definitely better. I'll need to try it at home first to see if it's as ok when reading from the desktop. Will come back to this!
@UnknownSquid5 жыл бұрын
Whilst the Rift-S will be a bit better than the original Rift, the index price and exact specs are expected to be released in only three days time. Since the Index is expected to have a much better screen, I'd say it's entirely worth waiting to see how it compares, and be able to make a fully informed decision. The Rift-S will likely be cheaper than the Index, but $400 seems like a lot to pay in regard to how little extra it will get you compared to your original Rift. Index would be a genuine all round upgrade in every field, whilst Rift-S would be a small step forward in some, but a step back in others.
