I'd love to use VR, but I can't use the hand controllers because I'm a quadriplegic. I'm so excited for the possibilities of controlling things with thought. There are three main things I'd really want to do with this type of tech. VR is one, of course, but I also want to be able to control an omnidirectional wheelchair and fully articulated robotic hands and arms. That would be amazing.

If somebody is curious to know what is the underlying mechanism, BCIs can work using many brain patterns but this in particular seems to work based on the fact that when we observe something flickering (like the grey little things we see in the video) at a certain frequency, our brain will emit a signal that has the exact same frequency as a response to the visual stimulus. So by matching the frequencies the device is able to understand which button you are trying to press with your mind (reason for which every button has flickering lines attached to it).

That's the primary thing I'm looking forward to. I know a lot of veterans who have lost one or both legs and one of the issues is linking up their movements with the prosthetic leg. Well that's interesting, but I know how these things work and the military has identical technology that enables the user to fly by mind in a sense; allowing a pilot to mentally choose between gun, rockets, or smart bombs say a 500 or 1000 lb jdam you can choose different flight controls. However in my understanding if the mind can control an exterior item it can be turned around and the mind can be controlled using an exterior Force inward. Well, you are totally right. The brain even NEEDS to be controlled by this tool to make this work at all. :-) Flashing images on the control surfaces -> Eyes -> Flash in Visual Cortex -> Triggers Sensor -> The control surface that flashes the image at the exact same time, is the control you are currently looking at. And that's not even the best part. :-) You can perfectly control peoples brainwaves/behavior not only with images, but with emotional triggers like stories, music, adverts, clickbait, framing, blaming, scapegoating or praising something/someone holly. You are already able to leverage all the human biases and fallacies for your very own interest :-) With everyone having electronic devices plugged into their brain via Eyes/Ears (TV, Smartphone, ...) you are totally able to provide the users with very calibrated content, where you can control and their behavior/choices/fear and monitor for even more efficient adjustments. Called Marketing and Analytics or Propaganda. Especially mastered by shops and emotionalizing media, lottery, politicians, mafia or dictators. Utilized for wars. Doesn't work with purely educational documentations/handbooks/tutorials though, because personal learning/improvement only works with intrinsic motivation/control.

What I like about neurolink is the applications for prosthetic limbs. Imagine being able to use your brain to move your prosthetic limb. About 10 years ago there was the oculus rift with one camera on your monitor and no special controllers, just keyboard and mouse. Now we have the oculus quest 2 which runs entirely on it's own, meaning that it can be taken anywhere like a phone, and has it's own unique controllers. Thinking about this, I look at this technology and wonder about what will become of it within the next 10 years. For a lack of better words, it's still in it's Oculus Rift stage, but some day we'll get it's Oculus Quest 2, and I'm very excited to see what that will be like.

These sorts of things are super early and touchy and not as good as you probably think anyway. Wait it out a bit. Also there wouldn't be much that supports using it. Also given it seemed like you had to look at the things for most cases there may not be much benefit over using an eye tracker. The jumping was interesting, though an eye tracker could map that to looking up and down quickly or blinking. Most of it looked like what you can already do done in a more complex method than needed. Maybe look at a tobi or something. I'm not saying it won't be more useful moving forward, just that as it is now doesn't add much.

This is a parlor trick... the little squiggly lines are causing issues between your ocular nerve and your brain. They are flashing at a predetermined rate so the sensor can tell what item in your possible choices you have focused on. There are two possible outcomes of doing this repeatedly. 1) At some point you could do this without the squiggly lines with good enough processing like something in a self driving car. 2) you become numb to this entire thing and it doesnt work at all.

Honestly, this is an advanced feature that will replace most of the gadgets we use for motion and movement currently in VR. Maybe the input lag now is bad because it's very basic at the moment, but with enough improvements and ways to connect with your thoughts, things can be happening in real-time without lag. I don't know, Deep Dive VR will be a vastly different experience compared to putting on a VR headset.

The concept is (kind of) right. Doing these things with your mind, i think, is possible; but i still think it's a little bit far. Imagining and Perceiving are different things. Still got to figure out a way to standarize mental images after all; for example, we can think about a stone, but your mental image may be different from my stone, because unlike voice commands, not everyone thinks the same way. I think it should be personalized acording to your own thought pattern to work.

As I was watching the shapes with flashing patterns I didn't really find differences in the texture but found differences in timing. If you stop the video at 4:39 and explore the surrounding frames using , and . keys you'll notice that each frame only one of these 10 panels has a pattern and the sequence repeats so I guess the device can sense a spike of brain activity at the time when the shape you're focusing at flashes
