It’s best to change your hydra-shift gears one at a time. Never set off gear 4, it causes premature wear in the clutch packs and brake bands.

Great grear box, but people did not know how to work them they yoused them like a break

Don't know if you watch or subscribe to Mac Farms channel but he's restoring his 1394 which had thrown an rod through the block when he got it but finding an 1394 engine in Canada is near impossible but he did find one off an 995 and plumbed the turbo and 1394 head on it.👍

I'm trying to get an old 1394 2wd driving again. Have changed out all the filters, took the sump down and drained and cleaned it and changed out the lift pump. It starts OK but after a minute or two running a load of smoke starts coming out of the blow by pipe. Also, although I drained the water out of it and put in fresh water, when I open the radiator cap after it's running a while the water is frothing up inside. I thought it might be the injectors that were at fault but someone suggested that the thermostat may be causing the problems. Would you have any idea what's causing the problems?

It sounds to me like a head gasket not a big job if you can do it yourself but could cost 400 if you have to pay some one . If the thermostat was stuck shut engine would get hot and the radiator would stay cold There are a great tractor to stay going where are you from

@@morganoflahertymachineryofirel I was afraid it would be something like that. I'm alright at the small bits but I don't think I'd want to go messing with that. It was my dad's, he got it new in the eighties and did a fair bit of contracting with it. It's been off the road for about ten years, if I do get it running right it'll need a bit of work. It's also not going into second which is another issue. I'd rather not spend thousands on it though, if I got it running ok and had it for just running around the yard and putting in silage I'd be happy. I'm in Galway.

Also when I had it running a while I lifted the radiator cap and the water was frothing up inside. I changed out the water and I thought that fixed it but I lifted the cap again yesterday and it was frothing up again.

@@ThinLynottFan there bottles of stuff available that you can get to seal the head gasket sometimes they work sometimes day don't you put them into the radiator when the engine is hot. it really depends and how bad the head gasket is it might be work or try for a short-term fix Where are you from

I’m looking to buy a 1494 case ih. It doesn’t start good in the cold the guy said. So is there a grid heater or some intake heater that are on these tractors that could have gone bad?

These tractors have 2 different engines some easy to start some not so easy but they are a good tractor over all there is a heated plug in the manafold that should be wired true a relay try it with a hair dryer into the air intake or some thing that will blow hot air Follow me to c more tractors

@@morganoflahertymachineryofirel it starts good in the warm but anywhere less than 40 degrees Fahrenheit it has trouble and takes forever to start. It has a new intake heater and is wired up to the switch. The switch has a position after the normal running position and right before the key position that engages the starter. There’s no relay on this one.

@@Mr.Sam1066 try some sort of heat gun or blow lamp into the air intake while starting it see if this will make a difference if this makes a difference it's possibly your heater plugs in the head

Yes but if you have a few leaks engine oil is heavier
