I just bought the red bone CV copperhead and liked it so much I ordered the yellow delrin and amber bone CV variants. I'm a stockman fan and thought I would miss the sheepfoot blade, but the pen blade does just as well for most tasks. This knife is 4 inches closed, with a main blade just a HAIR below 3 inches (smart design--3 inches seems to be a legal threshold in many jurisdictions). It's a bit too big for a watch pocket carry, but fits right my back pocket beside my wallet. It feels large enough to be capable of real work, without being a chore to carry. This is so much more practical a design than the trapper. I wonder why it didn't become one of Case's standard platforms?

Case knives sometimes get bad reviews for small issues. All knife makers including GEC have issues too. One might realize; Case makes a lot more knives than GEC. Fact is; the difference in production is huge. Most GEC collectors are chasing after models and buy ones just for the sake of getting another. The difference in quality might be better to a small extent. However; the choice of models is limited in comparison to the choice of models made by Case. When they introduce a vault model be sure you will see plenty of choices to buy. Also be sure some are going to go quickly if made with beautiful materials. A collection of just one year’s vault models is a collection in itself. What is the chance of collecting every GEC model made in 2021? First; I wonder if it is even possible; and second the cost would be a bundle. Now that said; If you happen to get a Case knife with an issue you can’t stand; send it back and Case will fix it. They likely will fix it for free; if you are super picky you may have pay to have it fixed. I sent three Case knives back together; two had loose blades and one had an uneven back spring. Two were 2019 models and one was a 2012 model. Three weeks later; I got them back and they were better than new. It cost me $10.70 for insurance and shipping. I am absolutely sure it made all of them more valuable as collector models. GEC makes good knives and Case does too. Let me know when you find a GEC Copperhead that cost the same as you bought your Case one for. Bet I will be waiting a long time for that to happen.

Finally someone to put the case qc into perspective. Gec typically has very small runs, often less than 50 knives. Case has runs of thousands so some qc problems would not be a surprise. For such a small batch company gec still has its share of glitches, plus a poor warranty record after the sale. Lastly, I agree that gec has become a status symbol more than a tool among some collectors. Maybe the high prices on new and secondary market knives shapes this illusion. Or the rare availability for the regular guy without living with your cell phone waity for alerts. I will stay with Case.

I just bought the peacock Appaloosa bone smkw exclusive copperhead. There are wild peacock where I live so there was finally one that “spoke” to me. I’ve been interested in the pattern for a while

Sad to say I waited a long time for Case to put out copperheads again, but now that they have I’m not in a rush to go out and get one because Case quality has slipped in the past two decades.

More manafacturers should copy that style, tangs with the sharp corners annoy me, doesn't look like Case have a QC department or the fit and finish would surely be better, there not budget knives after all, look at price of say Rough Rider and they are mostly as good.

Great review, I also learned of the release from the SMKW catalog. I was going to order one of the standard ones,particularly a CV. However a few days after getting the catalog I found a practically unused 1979 one in a antique mall, and for less than a new one. I really like the pattern and finding one in my birth year was just a bonus.

Case has a knife called a Texas Jack that is real similar to the Copperhead; it has both the clip blade and pen blade, and it's about the same overall length. Nice review on this knife. Look awesome!

Case knives are nothing but unfairly priced rough rider knives, and rough rider knives are fairly priced case knives. Case knives are grossly overrated, I think I'd rather be a rough rider customer.
