I've listened to all 6 parts of this podcast this weekend. Truly impressive coverage and gripping listening. I guess there were a number of potential opportunities for law enforcement to catch the Golden State Killer much earlier, but it's very easy to say so in hindsight. These days, hopefully criminals like this wouldn't go unidentified or unapprehended for so long, thanks to advancements in science and the ability to make information known globally instantly . I was shocked that he changed his MO from his raping to murdering. it seemed a strange escalation despite that he'd threatened to do so for so long. In any case, he is where he belongs now.

People say it isn’t a punishment since he’s old, this and that but I think the best thing about it is that he knows all his loved ones will think he’s an absolute dead beat. Instead of spending his last few golden years with loving family, he dies alone in prison. The family and friends he all knew are nothing but ashamed or disgusted in him, THAT is the big win here. I know it’s sad that he lived a good life all those years, and that he doesn’t cop a death penalty but just rotting in gaol, knowing full when that no one gives a damn about you, not a single person.

The Casefile series about the East Area Rapist/Golden State Killer has been so fantastic, and I learned more in-depth and personal information about the victims and their experiences and such unique details, than in any other breakdown of this case. I realized about the 2nd to last episode that you had done your series so close to but before the police had told the world that they'd finally discovered who the perpetrator was and they had him in custody. I was so hopeful that you would have a follow up! I really have been so impressed by the Casefile team and their thoughtful and respectful handling of sensitive and very personal topics. You all manage to get the important details across without gratuitous attention to the "gory." At least as far as I am concerned, I feel very much like I am in the horror of the situation and I take a lot of these sensations with me afterward, and I mean that as positively as possible. Your way of storytelling really does make the people whose names I've heard before (in a lot of cases) much more real, persons I identify with much more, people I could know. Thank you for all you do Team Casefile!

I said this exact thing. This group of people is really talented in storytelling even though the "story" is crime and horrible behavior. I was hoping for an update as well ever since the Hulu special came out and I googled the perpetrator. I wanted so many details and this channel is the only place that had accurate, plentiful, facts on the matter. And then I got sucked in to the rest of the videos. Amazing channel, extremely underrated. Definitely needs more attention.

What I do not understand is that every justice system I know about has some sort of statue of limitation on almost all crimes. Why is that? Why can evading justice for long enough absolve you from raping a person? Or even from stealing a purse? I don't get it. Someone willing and able to explain, please?
@lesa004 жыл бұрын
The purpose and effect of statutes of limitations are to protect defendants. There are three reasons for their enactment: A plaintiff with a valid cause of action should pursue it with reasonable diligence. By the time a stale claim is litigated, a defendant might have lost evidence necessary to disprove the claim. Litigation of a long-dormant claim may result in more cruelty than justice.
@ulalaFrugilega4 жыл бұрын
@@lesa00 thanks! But I am not convinced. Those are valid reasons, but at the most to take into consideration on a case to case basis, not to just wholeheartedly atop persecuting a rapist. Or someone who bashed somebody's head in, but did not kill him. Rape is the best case against limitations, as especially young victims are known to need many years until coming forward. Anyway, those reasons, if taken as viable, should be applicable to murder as well, right? Because, why not?
@PArTuie3 жыл бұрын
@@ulalaFrugilega Well, in the case of stealing a purse. The 19 year old that stole the purse is not the same person that's over 50 and would not think to steal as they have matured. For that one, a statute of limitation is legitimate.
@ulalaFrugilega3 жыл бұрын
@@PArTuie MIGHT be. He might have matured into a big thief, though… anyway, why limit culpability for rape? What sort of signal does that limit alone send to men?
@nutyyyy3 жыл бұрын
Because in the past there wouldn't be any evidence that would be admissible in court after that time. Today there is no statute of limitation for rape because we have more forensic and DNA evidence that can be used.

I always wondered how he knew so much about everybody's phone numbers, names, who live there, when they were coming home. It's like he knew everything. You just have to go back to the Visalia ransacker and remember when he was breaking into four homes a day. He learned to do this without the ransacking just to get the information for later. Do the ransacking with sex. He could look in the closet and see whether it was a woman or a man. Knew all the routines. The connection with the real estate for sale is he would break into the house for sale very easily without worry and he could spy on all of the neighbors from that location. Watch them all day and night if he wanted to. Snoop around their house, loosen up security, and go back next door to the house for sale for the backyard and wait. It's about as creepy as It gets.

HOW can anyone be against using forensic genetic genealogy?!? I consider the method one of the most important and uplifting scientific developments ever, and I think it should be available for use in all cases concerning violent crimes. If my DNA could help catch a violent offender, I'd consider that one of the most important contributions I'd ever made. I'd send a DNA sample to a genealogy site lab for that reason alone, and I wish everyone would. If they did, we might actually see a worldwide decrease in violent crime, since it the hugely increased risk of being caught would act as a deterrent. I hate that GEDMATCH have made the decision to make their database off limits to law enforcement. :( :( :( Submit your DNA, everyone! For example to 23andMe, Family Tree DNA, MyHeritage DNA, AncestryDNA or Living DNA.

Your last sentence is exactly what conniving law enforcement and government officials say in order to coerce their way into searching your car or your house without a warrant. It doesn't matter if I'm doing anything wrong or not it's my property and I have a right to say no unless you have a detailed warrant saying what you're looking for where you're looking for and it's signed by a judge in good standing and even then in my opinion that's garbage. And it's because people hold the view that you just expressed that it's no big deal that the status in this world get away with the stuff that they do. What you're also neglecting to say is that these companies not only share information with law enforcement but they share your genetic information with research laboratories. What are medical research laboratories doing with your DNA? If you don't care then that's a really big issue. When someone has your DNA they have you. Wouldn't it be amazing if one day the sheriff's department shows up at your door and says hey your DNA was found on a crime scene and you know darn well that you were never there? Yeah no thanks.
