@@SpicyTexan64 Yes you would. Without movement and sustenance like water and food, her body was literally beginning to rot. She WAS decomposing. The sores were likely dead tissue by this point, etc etc. Severe gangrene also smells like decomposing flesh. Because the flesh literally begins to rot.

Some of your stories are so riveting that I want to know more about the victim or what was involved. This was one such case. You do a great job of narrating, but you might find the Australian True Crime podcast w/Narrell Fraser an incredibly powerful first-hand account. She was the officer who opened up the trunk/boot and she describes in detail what happened. It was very different from your "take"....Not only does she describe in detail the scene...but how she connected to Maria on a level that impacted her so much she had a case of post-traumatic stress and needed to deal with this after. She also relays another episode dealing with another cop years later, who was also on that scene. He left the job after that day. This was such a sorrowful story, almost karmic-like in Maria's eloquent 'goodbye'...as for the GF who carried out the horrific deed, she should've gotten at least 50 years---the fact that you are a weak person doesn't exclude you from being evil. She got away w/murder. May Maria rest in peace...

I have a degree of sympathy for her, she was clearly someone who was easily abused and manipulated. She is a victim of Joe's as well. She deserves SOME mitigating factors in our viewing of her. But I am glad she expressed clear and expressed remorse and horror at her own actions. I think 9 years is probably too short, but I do think she shouldn't have served more than 15 under the circumstances. That said she ABSOLUTELY needs to go to extensive therapy regarding her actions, the trauma involved, and help in recognising abusive people. Like that shit should be court mandated, minimum 2 years therapy.

There was a fact and I always thought it was a pretty big fact. When the vehicle was found and Once police opened the boot it was several hours before they realized that she was in fact alive. It was a pretty big deal at the time.

By that point she had spent about 4 straight days without food or water, in a stationary and cramped position resulting in her tissue beginning to rot. Remember, she smelled like a corpse. As such, even if they'd given immediate medical attention, I don't expect her chances to have been very high. 3 days without water alone is lethal. She lasted at least 4. It was a miracle she was still breathing at all, but there was a moderate to high chance she'd have been brain dead anyway. That said, the fact she was still breathing means that it MIGHT have changed things, but I'm doubtful. 24 hours earlier? Absolutely her chances massively shoot up in survival. A few hours? Even 6? They increase, but not enough imo.

Tanya wanted a different relationship than hookups etc and yet jumped right into that with this winner…….. Smh The ghouls and criminal’s definitely come out on the good side (if there can be a good side in a horrific case like this). Romeo avoids any kind of punishment, the other perpetrator is let out after serving bank robbery length of time, and the victim and her family suffer……..is any actual attempt at true justice being made any more? Anything at all? Or do we just accept that any monster who commits a depraved crime will soon be back in society without too much inconvenience for them?………. People wonder why others take the law into their own hands…….it’s when the “Justice system” stops doing its job……

I'm amazed at a women who could be manipulated enough to kill. Research needs to be do on those who comply with the desired of killers and pedophiles and the women that love them. I don't think is simply the fact that they love them. We are erroneously assuming they know what lovd is.

A big part of the plethora of issues concerning extreme actions and reactions is that people are desperate to find and hold onto anyone they think they love. Our society has made it seem as though you have to be in a relationship to be "complete", and that you should be ashamed of getting divorced or breaking up with someone you loved. What is thought of as "romantic love" is actually something called limerence, which is an involuntary, physical, and temporary state. People are driven to do some crazy things bc they believe it will allow them to keep or return to the "honeymoon period" that is limerence. It's a powerful chemical reaction with effects similar to that of drugs.

You're forgetting the extensive other information, such as the genuine remorse she expressed and the detailed psych reports stating that without Joe she would never have committed such a violent act. Like I agree court systems can be excessively lenient to women sometimes, but I don't think this is one of them.

If her family were in Australia at the time, I suspect a judge would have rather immediately ordered they be given guardianship to allow them to make medical decisions on her behalf, though it likely would have been restricted to ONLY medical decisions due to the legal snafu

I can't even believe what kind of monster would let that happen. I bet if Joe came to her and professed his love for her she would fall into his arms. I mean, I do understand manipulation and brain washing…but murder? To the point of actually killing another human being? And not calling the authorities even after hearing her breathing and knowing she was alive for five whole days slowly and painfully dying? Unless she thought her boyfriend’s life was in danger by Maria, I don’t see how that could happen. I could see her being manipulated as if the wife was dangerous and unhinged and she needed to “save” him. Still…5 days is more than enough time to snap out of it and call for help, even if it got her arrested. That’s what guilt would really look like. She might feel guilty, but she certainly displays narcissist traits of putting herself first no matter what.

She was a very weak and vulnerable person mentally from what it appears. She also does seem to be a little mentally unwell, not severely or even a specific diagnosis, but I don't think she exhibited narcisstic traits. I don't think she viewed Maria as a danger to Joe, but I do think that she believed she was a vile person who deserved to die. Remember as she was told, if Joe left her she'd kill herself and probably the kids, etc etc. So she viewed her as a manipulative and cruel woman who was better off dead, as that's what Joe implied and made her believe. He warped her view of reality, to the point she would casually talk about killing her until after Joe was forcefully seperated from her by the police, and when he cast her to the wolves by saying he only loved Maria. It shattered the delusions he had built for her, and the weight of her actions sunk in slowly. It's why she told police everything without all that much pushing. She was starting to realise what she'd done. There was no snapping out of it in those 5 days, the delusion was built too strong due to her easily manipulated nature. It's a very rough situation for her and I feel pretty bad she basically ruined her life like that. Keep in mind manipulation can be very, very effective and can genuinely make people do things they otherwise never would. That's what happened here. I hope she gets the help she needs, she's too easily manipulated and needs to get extensive therapy to help her recognise bad people like Joe.

Very complicated and delicate circumstances around presumption of innocence (at that time he was only being charged with her attempted murder, not convicted of it) and that it was the courts opinion that she was trying to make it work, and that were she given the option she would have wanted him to say goodbye. We can debate if those conclusions were the right ones to make, but they are reasonable in their logic.
