This was a great visual tool, however, I felt that it was quite repetitive (particularly at the end), there was a lot of 'I think this/that' from the chairperson and not a lot of encouragement/deliberate opportunities given for Mary herself to speak. My understanding is that this is a very important part of case conferencing, as including Mary and encouraging her to speak helps to ensure her ownership and investment in this process while gauging motivation. I also believe that each individual worker needed a chance to discuss openly what they are currently working together on - to aid with understanding Mary in her current context, assist with prevention of duplication of service and in order to delegate tasks.

I am only a student learning about case management and thought the video was most helpful. I was concerned that there was no mention about the not taking of bi polar medicine and only know from personal experience how dire that could be. Perhaps someone can help me understand this.

hi my name is jeanette and i too am a student studing counselling and found the with video helpfully .just on what john commented on reguarding her medical issuse it was brought up at the start of meeting an arrangement to discuss that later was made with natasta.also i though there my be more interaction between gogran and maria hopefully that will happen naturally with time and trust building .

In this video example of a case management meeting, the Meeting Chairperson, family support member Beth, seems to be very polite while appearing to be making her best effort at creating a peaceful atmosphere. She calls for attention with and for introductions, beginning the meeting in an orderly fashion. Mary has just given birth to a child, and should probably be resting, but has at least shown up to the meeting, telling me she cares. Mary seems stressed, yet remains fairly calm as start, while Mary’s son Aaron’s councilor Goren, at least that is what I think his name is, seems a little uptight, perhaps stressed out or in need of medications himself, or he drank too much coffee perhaps. Mary’s Case Manager Natasha also seemed at first to give a sort of look to Goren, almost in disgust or possibly bewilderment. Natalie, Mary’s mental health support worker seems eager to help. I think that I would have had the child in with them all, even if it was at a later date. Perhaps giving the child a chance to meet individually with each of those at the meeting and then now and then to see if the plans are making progress. Mary seems a bit confused, but apparently trusts Beth, which tells me the meeting is going well, and as Beth does seem sincere, it seems fitting, but Beth will now be the Case Manager as well. It seems everyone agrees that getting Aaron back into school and helping Mary acquire all the skills a mother should have ae the goals and everyone agrees on doing these things. I like how Beth really takes charge and leads the meeting reminding everyone she will be writing up the agreement between them all. Impressive professional and right to the point Beth gets the meeting underway. When Natasha is given a chance to explain why she is involved, the safety of the children and education of Aaron presently seemed secondary and Natasha seemed more focused on trying to get Mary back on her medication. Beth takes control of the conversation like a boss, and stops the medication discussion started by Natasha with a suggestion to Mary to address the issue with Natalie soon, Basically Beth makes it clear that the present meeting will be to focus on Aaron and his education. It seems that Beth picks up on the vibe that Natasha and Goren are not exactly happy with Mary, and seem to be giving negative frowns. Mary remains calm. Beth is very nice for assuring Mary that no matter what has happened she is aware that despite it all Mary takes great care of the kids and loves them. I myself would ask the school to keep Aaron in school when he misbehaves, as sending him home seems a bit of a reward for some kids. I have heard of in house suspensions too, when you are out of the class but you are still at the school by yourself in a room or with others. I am glad at the end they say they will meet in 2 weeks. Seems at the end of the meeting everyone was calmer. Beth knew when to take a break. Great Video. I am surprised that nobody asked who was watching the children during that meeting. I give it a 9 out of 10. Bravo Beth.

Apparently Medical Privacy Laws are different in Australia, than they are in the US. The US is by far one of the least socially advanced Industrialized nations, but at least there are laws which strictly prohibit discussion of this sort. If a parent were to commit a criminal offense, then information would be publicly available. But in this situation it seems a horrible invasion of the "mother's" privacy. She should have contacted an attorney right away. The State may well penalize her for neglect, but her personal medical information should never have entered the discussion.
