DESCRIPTION
When the bodies of British tourists 23-year-old Hannah Witheridge and 24-year-old David Miller were found brutally murdered on the remote Thai island of Koh Tao, the police immediately concluded that the killer had to be a foreigner, as a Thai person couldn’t be capable of such brutality.

It’s amazing how some of the family believed the police when they obviously framed the migrant workers. Every piece of evidence had been tampered with and they are clearly not to blame. The mafia is clearly involved and they have immunity.

So many narrow-minded folks commenting here about not wanting to visit Thailand after this horrible crime. Live in fear and stay in your bubble. Thailand will be fine without you. There are plenty of Western expats visiting and living safely in the country. These people are generally mindful, have common sense, and have good awareness. Terrible crimes like this can happen anywhere. Guess what? Bad people exist everywhere. I'm saying this as an American. The US State Department considers Thailand as a safe country overall. In fact, Thailand is considered safer than the US. Australia recently suffered from a psycho going on a killing spree where 6 people were killed. By the logic of these Thailand haters, people should now avoid Australia too.

This case has always stuck with me, as Hannah is from my home town and we were the same age when her life was brutally taken. I’ve been to Thailand several times, but the first time I went, people tried to warn me because of what happened to Hannah, but the reality is violent crime happens in every part of the world and if you live in fear you’ll never experience anything outside of your own home.

This is true, but going to a corrupt country like Thailand knowing the police allow crimes to be committed without making any real effort to find out who really did them because of ‘losing face’ or protection of mafia type groups, then you must accept that the same could easily happen to you. A high risk way to live your life and a very real chance that your loved ones will lose you without ever getting any justice for you or any closure. A high price indeed.

All things being equal you would be correct, of course not everything is equal. You can walk the length of great cities like Seoul and Tokyo and not have a care in the world, one would be foolish to try the same in Bangkok, London or New York. Harsh realities of an unfair and unequal world.

I went backpacking with my girlfriend (same age and both similar(ish) to Witheridge & Miller in appearance) about 9 months after this horrible event. I remember being very disturbed about it, but somehow I misremembered the island name. I thought they had been murdered on Ko Samui. We avoided Ko Samui, and stayed in Koh Tao for a few days/nights and even walked alone on a quiet night along Sairee beach to the same sports bar in complete ignorance. It wasn't until watching this Case File that I learned of the true extent of the amount of suspicious deaths on Koh Tao. It disturbs me knowing we made that journey, and had I known about 'death island' beforehand, I probably would've stayed away.

A lot of people here are hating on Thailand. However the Thailand people are the ones who exposed police corruption to the international community, going out of their way to debunk police explanations and even had lawyers defend the accused Myanmar men for free. While all of this media is written and spoken in Thai, and translated for us in English.

There's a lot dodgy all round here. In 2010 I was at a black moon party on some island off kopangyang. I bought some MDMA from some Thai guys. I lost my friend and went down the beach alone. The drugs weren't what I thought and suddenly two Thai guys carried me into the jungle. I could barely move or talk. They tried to rape me, but I called help feebly and some German tourists heard and came to my aid. The two guys ran off in different directions. I went to the police who did absolutely nothing. It was still a great month, and would definitely go back.

Also, people have got to let go of the stereotypes they hold about rapists. Including the psychology community. Control is the number one factor why a person - usually a cisgender straight man, but there plenty of cis women both straight and lesbian that are also offenders - chooses to rape, but that doesn’t mean attraction is never a factor. There can be more than one reason why someone chooses to sexually assault someone else. And there are countless cases of rape often followed by homicide where the two victims were encountered randomly in a “lover’s lane” and an opportunity was seized. I do think the motivation in those cases can be an element of jealousy and rage. I’ve personally been in a situation where an ex and I would park in a secluded area, would have sex that was probably too loud because we thought we were in an area that was far enough away from other people, and multiple times after we had just finished a sketchy guy in a truck would drive back there down the dirt road we would park on. Nothing back there, dead end dirt road that has nothing on it, no reason for this guy to be driving back there and slowly by us. Thankfully I am hypervigilant from being a pothead in my teen years and had my car started and in drive by the time the guy got his truck near us. This happened at least 3 different times, and I know the guy drove back there because he overheard us having sex and was angered by it. I think we were lucky that I was a little paranoid about parking and having sex to begin with, and that neither of us were in the backseat “caught unawares” by this guy, because I would not like to think what could have happened if I wasn’t paying attention. Being someone that’s seen as conventionally attractive in some ways, I absolutely feel like I’m in far more danger when I’m dressed in any way that’s “cute” when going out alone versus when I try to dress myself down to avoid male attention.

Zolin and Weipo are the killers according to their "true” story not cohearsed by Thai police their story matches with what killers would do: 1. They went back in the morning to check if foreigners are alive hoping that perhaps they were just beaten badly but somehow woke up and left beach. 2. Upon finding the pair dead on the beach the guy picks up the iphone in near the body and takes it back with him. 3. Their story of going for a swim and someone taking their belongings is more like after leaving their belongings to follow and attack the pair they panicked and run without searching for their items only to realise in early hours of the morning that if the couple is dead and their belongings found that they would be found so they had to go back and to go back but not see dead bodies on the beach is a clear lie. They knew where the bodies were and that was right next to the iphone and they picked it up together with their clothes and then said they didn't find their clothes but yes they did pick up their clothes and destroyed their clothes just like the iphone and end of the story.
