Losing one child to a kidnapping and/or violent crime causes enough pain and grief already, but losing all three of your children in the same night is just soul-crushing. I would have a hard time finding a reason to continue living after something like that.

The thing about voluntary DNA sweep research is that no one expects the perp to cooperate, and he doesn't need to for it to succeed. Usually people in these rural areas have lived there for generations, and have relatives living in the same area. Even if Jasper S. "This was back when people thought the world was safe for children." Has the world ever really been safe for children?
@chrisb20382 жыл бұрын
no but in the 50s things were just different. it generally was safer than it is today, so when stuff like that started happening it was brand new and unthinkable to people
@Strype132 жыл бұрын
@@chrisb2038 The 50s were most definintely not safer than today. One major difference being crimes and/or violence was much easier to get away with back then. People weren't carrying video cameras around in their pockets, buildings weren't covered with surveillance, and law enforcement didn't have the ability to track people via GPS like they do today. Basically, violent crime itself has gone down, but the number of convictions have shot through the roof. And what do you mean by "started happening?" Violent crime did not start in the 50s, my friend. It has been around since the dawn of man.
@chrisb20382 жыл бұрын
@@Strype13 Im gonna go ahead and heavily disagree with your assessment there. organized crime was more rampant, but people were safe to walk down the street without living in fear. i genuinely fear for my life nowadays just walking down the street.
@chrisb20382 жыл бұрын
@@Strype13 any person that was alive in the 50’s will tell you how much safer it was back then. my assumptions are not wrong lol, and can be recounted by actual people alive during that time
@Strype132 жыл бұрын
@@chrisb2038 You can disagree all you want, but you'll be incorrect in doing so. You can very easily go look up violent crime statistics for yourself. By chance, are you aware of how many hitchhikers just disappeared off the face of the earth between the 50s throughout the 70s? The number is staggering, and that is just one small niche. If criminals can get away with crime, they're going to do so. Just because we don't have the arrest reports to confirm the behavior doesn't mean it wasn't happening - the vast majority merely flew under the radar. Seems you may be implementing more modern "big city think" to your analysis which simply wouldn't apply to a proper evaluation of the 50s. Times were certainly different back then, but they definitely weren't any safer. Again, go look it up for yourself instead of wasting your time here with your meaningless anecdotes.

There was a great investigator/journalist who put great effort all of that time in solving the case, Peter R. De Vries. Sadly he was murdered in broad day Light. Look him up. 18 years for r*pe, strangulation and cutting someone's throat? And here I was thinking the law was shitty here in Brazil, but apparently Netherlands is just as bad with its penalties as we are.
@Aileendamen2 жыл бұрын
Because the murder happened in 1999, they could only ask for the maximum punishment of that time. At the time the maximum punishment was 20 years. These day's it's 30 years. Unfortunately, in the Netherlands punishments for crime are ridiculously low.

I'm from switzerland and we have quite short sentences as well. For example, a rape can be between 1 to 10 years. It is unimaginable to me how any kind of sexual assault in that severity takes the victim a year or less to get over with. I got verbally sexually assaulted by a roommate and lived in fear of when he wohld make his threats into reality. This alone took around a year of therapy and he didn't even touch me. I do have to say though that there probably are more effective methodes than just prisons. I think most sexual predators (and thus less victims) profit more grately from intense therapy than just be in prison and then be released.

QUESTION: What happened to the host of this show? The dad & daughter I use to watch go out to the scenes of the missing looking for clues or the missing person themselves? Ik Covid greatly impacted the travel situation but we never see or hear from them at all anymore. I'm basically just checking on them, asking how they are. I really miss them, they were or are my fav youtube people. I hope they are doing wo wonderful!!! Absolutely love what they did, don't get me wrong I love this just as much(I'm almost positive this is not dads voice, doesn't sound like him at all!)
