Longtime fans of Casey's from his time on American Idol may already be aware of his battle with ulcerative colitis. Current followers may also be aware that he had recently been hospitalized four times for flare-ups. Three were walk-ins, and the last required an ambulance.
After a month of exhaustive attempts to heal his body, an emergency life-saving
surgery was performed to remove his entire colon. He will make a recovery but will need two more corrective surgeries in the new year in hopes of more healing to come.
It should be stated that UC is an autoimmune disease in the large intestine
whose exact cause remains unknown, and there is no cure. Flareups can be
unpredictable, and it is still a mystery that is difficult for many to manage.
Unfortunately, Casey's extreme outcome has come at a tremendously high
physical and financial cost. The next surgeries and recovery will continue for
many months, with no way to fully know those additional costs.
All of his gigs since September 6 were necessarily canceled, and he will not be
able to work & perform for some time, Casey's foremost source of income.

I'm so sorry Casey. Been a huge fan since Idol. I have 13 ulcers and it's a son of a bitch.... I think those of us that feel too much suffer these stomach issues. Our bodies are weirdly tied to our emotions through our stomach. Love you man hang in there. It's always amazing how alone we feel when the chips are down. We say all we're so thankful for those around us but really we feel alone and we wish people were more acutely attentive. Like we are. But nobody's like us.

I am so sorry to hear this... You and Haley have brought me much musical joy!!! I have a systemic autoimmune disease and have had three bowel resections... Nearly bleed to death after the first one due to complications so I exactly know the feeling of passing out due to blood loss... Please, everyone be generous... My best friend has been battling UC for years, including going through the same surgery and even then it wound up attacking the rest of his intestines and is being treated as Crohn's. It's awful. Man.. I needed this. Same surprise, diagnosis, deteriorating muscles, three abdominal surgeries, massive hernia (Dang naval is pretty gone)same pouch and same sense of starting over. Your witnessing helps me. I am drummer,70 yo...not famous but disciplined (2 hours pratice every day). Played lots of gigs. I am two years out of hospitalization. Pretty mobile, two hour sleep cycles. The pouch is an art form, my butt buddy so to speak. A bit insecure about performing. I’m working on the whole spiritual creating my reality thing. OMG, this is shocking! Didn't expect it at all when I clicked your video, and it really hit me, so sorry to hear what you've been going through and will have to deal with further on... I wish you a quick recovery and succesful surgery to come. This is really different for me than just hearing about any star or musician being sick, it feels as if my own brother had confronted me with bad news about his health, because I not only love your music, but also relate to you as a character, I love your personality so much (from the impression that shines through in your videos...). One day at a time Casey, your road to recovery will be rough at times for sure and i hope you can play music with friends soon again, maybe not yet perform, but just be able to play and have fun would be a good goal to work towards to. It always saddens me to see a gofundme request because they (should) remind people that their government does not look out for its citizens, otherwise you'd have healthcare that covers the bills, you'd have social benefits during your recovery period, and you... and many others, get neither. (or at least not anywhere near the needed amount) I really hope many people will help you with this, it's sad that it's needed, but i'm sure you'll get a lot of support. :)

I’m so sorry you have to go through this. And very glad you are still alive! You have such wonderful energy and talent and seem like a genuinely good person, I hope you will not let this situation change you too much. And that all your follow up procedures will be successful. I’ll donate what I can. Your music helped get me through when I was very sick with Covid back in Spring 2020. I almost died and it caused damage that I’ll have to deal with for the rest of my life. I’m not sure how much of the aftermath of that is universal. I had months of depression, despair at times, and anger…so much freaking anger. Thankfully I’m a gamer and was able to work through much of that anger through killing imaginary monsters in games. And my children and music helped so much with the rest. I’m not sure what you have in your life to help you through all the aftermath and follow-ups you’re facing. You seem to have supportive and good friends and family which is a huge help. And music. And much more I’m sure that I’m unaware of. I hope you will be able to channel away the negativity that inevitably comes and hold on to your beautiful spirit/soul. Situations like these can’t help but change us, especially when there’s so much we can’t control. But in the end, it’s up to us if we let it change us in negative ways. It’s too easy to lose ourselves. With everything that you can’t control though, only you have the power to decide who Casey is, and will be. You are strong, and good, and creative, and gifted. You make a difference in the world. Your music has helped more people then you are aware of. You are an inspiration to others. Musically, yes, but mostly your spirit, you, Casey. For what it’s worth, you have my best wishes/prayers/positive thoughts.

I went through something very similar in 2011, with diverticulitis -- part of colon removed, six months with colostomy bag. It was a physical challenge (I also nearly died before the first emergency surgery) and a huge mental-emotional-spiritual journey that, quite frankly, I'm still not over.
