Can I just say, wow? I always felt that they played off Casey’s anxiety for laughs, when it’s legitimately a huge issue that she has to overcome and something defining of her character. I love how you played with her identity issues here too, because she always seems so confident, yet she is extremely vulnerable. She is such an idealist, a perfectionist, a romantic, she gets swept up so easily. And she is so open it sometimes leaves her dangerously exposed. But in the end she draws strength from that vulnerability, builds herself up because she never gives up. She is amazing. I love love love your video. ❤️

Your description of Casey is on point. 💯 I love vidding Dasey but it felt kinda necessary to also vid Casey and Derek as separate characters because they're both so interesting on their own, and their respective personalities are what makes the ship so solid, if that makes sense.

I love this so, so much. Casey is such a great character, and you really highlighted that. I actually got chills from the 'change back!' transition and how you used the beat/melody of the song to show her overcoming her anxieties and fears and becoming more herself again. I think a lot of teenage girls really related to her getting swept up in friend groups and roles, but the absolute best Casey was the Casey who was 100% herself. Amazing job!

I absolutely love Derek's character development (I'm a sucker for "jerk with a heart of gold") but I feel that Casey's story arc is a lot more realistic/relatable and much less represented in media. It felt good editing this for her & it made me realize how great of a character she really is.

This is so well done, you showed the deeper side of her that they only touched the surface of. I seriously love how well you get both of them. I love how you went through the different things that messed with her head from who she was because of the guys and people in general. I really love this and how you took from different episodes those tiny moments where you see hints of actual trauma from bullying the brats (guys) and her father and just. Well done.

Ugh, this is everything I could have wanted to hear. Thank you. 🤗 I really feel that Casey has abandonment issues from her dad not being present enough, and that it pushed her to be this over-achiever, perfectionist type of character, because she craves attention and affection. At her old school, being preppy and study-focused was a good thing, so she was the best at that. At Thompson High, being popular means going to parties, dating guys, being into sports... and that's what she became. I do like that it's nuanced, though. In the end, she's a mix of things. She doesn't totally reject everything she picked up along the way. :)

AHHHH CASEY WITH THIS SONG??? PERFECTION!!! i have always identified more with derek than with casey and have never really dug *too* deep into her character, so this was very interesting to me! i love character studies in edits: i think its a really creative and expressive way of revealing the layers that goes into fictional characters, and this is no exception! i could go on and on about all the little things you revealed about casey and her motivations, intentions, character trajectories (im a film student haha, its in my blood) but i won't because we'd be here forever haha! but this is honestly one of the best character studies / in depth analysis of a character that i've seen in a while. beautiful editing, as always! thank you so much for putting in time and effort to make content and uploading! xx

I feel very lucky to read this. ❤️ I've also always been more drawn to Derek, as a character, because the "jerk with a heart of gold" trope, when it's well executed, is pretty much my kryptonite. I love seeing someone's walls come down, that's just it. But Casey's story arc is so much more relatable and realistic for many girls. And I realized that as I was making the video. She's actually very complex but in a different way from Derek. It's just my interpretation, but I feel that the absence of her dad left her craving for attention/affection and that's why she strives for perfection all the time. On top of the pressure that's on every girl in high school anyway. I'd be lovely to hear more of your interpretation, if you want to make post about it or if you feel comfortable filming yourself on KZbin. I'm sure you have a lot to say!

That's from the episode Allergy Season in season 3. Casey's just had a realization about her relationship with Max. Basically, since she started dating Max, she's let his world (sports, cheerleading, social events...) take over her interests and personality. She doesn't really recognize herself and she misses parts of who she was. She confides in Derek. Derek first asks if Max ever actually asked her to change, and then he suggests she simply changes back to who she was.
