Casey's 1964 Rambler American 220: Worth a Restore or Too Rusty to Save?

Casey loves giving older, forgotten cars a new lease on life instead of being sent to the junkyard. He was given the opportunity to save this 1964 Rambler American 220, which had spent much of its life in Pennsylvania. After picking up the '64 Rambler American and towing it home to Georgia, Casey and his friend managed to get it running, but found all sorts of rust and other filth on the old Rambler. Was it worth saving, or too much of a rustbucket?

Enjoyed your story! I think many of us have our own tale of woe. I had a very similar experience with a 1958 Oldsmobile 98. I looked for a parts car for it because the rear quarters and rear door jambs were Swiss cheese filled with Bondo and NEWSPAPER! I found a 1958 Oldsmobile Super 88 and decided to use what I could off of the 98 to restore the Super 88! A lot of things could be swapped, except for the trim on the rear quarters, since the quarters were much longer on the 98. Live and learn! The Super 88 came out great, though. That's a real shame about all the rust. I do like your idea of keeping the front and back end. Maybe you could use them for the sides of a couch?

I agree with you. My huge shortfall has been that I haven't had access to a shop/garage to repair these cars in.😢😢😢 Damn it. I'd love to be abld to help get older cats and trucks back to running condition. Too bad that the chassis is gone!😔😔😔 So this one is now a donor vehicle.

Do you still have the car? I have a 64 American 440 convertible, I need some parts(right headlight bezel, left tail light assembly, door locks, trunk lock and ignition switch all with keys please.

I’ve got a 1987 Volvo 740 GLE five speed stick. I had it tuned up with new points, plugs, timing belt, new distributor and wires. New hoses top and bottom, new tires and battery. It has the 2.3 red block engine. This car is from Atlanta and it has no rust on it. I really know nothing about older cars least of all Volvos. Should I keep fixing things or sell it? Everybody tell me what to do with my light blue Volvo named Elsa! Lol.
