So if I were to tell you that I wrote a historical fiction book (that I thought was good because I spent time on it) would it mean that it is bad considering that it was on Wattpad? Believe me Wattpad is mostly hot garbage, like the KZbin trending page. The gems are hard to find and mostly ignored and honestly Wattpad has an issue of publishing books that are exactly that smut-filled, cliche filled novels that read like terrible fanworks. Don't get me wrong like Ms. Aonso books like 'Chasing Red' infuriates me. You give authors a bad rep when you write TERRIBLE books.

M G Anyone can write bad shit. People have to bad write shit before they can begin to write good quality shit. It doesn’t really matter what platform it ends up on. You can have poorly made movies, books, poems, and so on. And they can be bad for a lot of different reasons. Maybe they’re cheap or didn’t have enough time, maybe they were made in one draft, maybe the writer didn’t understand the subject matter well enough and ended up sending a really bad message. But that’s what we all have to go through. In the end, it will only make you better, either by learning what not to do or learning what you like and dislike. Another thing is that no piece of art will connect with everyone the same way. Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are a lot like lightening in a bottle. There isn’t much out there with quite the same scope. But just because you’re not making the next Harry Potter, doesn’t mean there won’t be people out there who don’t enjoy your book.

I'd like to classify myself as the second one. Romance novels like Chasing Red often DO NOT have a second or tercery plot. When the only plot is to get the characters together--there's no real purpose. You could shorten the book to three chapters instead of 40 or 100 chapters. In romance novels there's always that artificial drama created by the author. Cliches and overused tropes also accompany it.
@waddle6234 жыл бұрын
I wrote 4 unfinished books on Wattpad. One was about 2 mermaid sisters, and their adventures. The second book was about my exaggerated life in my African family. The 3rd one is a crackhead take on vampires and werewolves. The 4th is about rich people who live in Rosewood gated community (I forgot the name of the community). Anyway, all of these stories have little romance. The first 3 ones were mostly about life, and silly adventures and romance is sprinkled in between. The 4th one is meant to be dark, and focus on the evil stuff the people in that community did, and how they use poor people to do their bidding, and the police investigating them no romance whatsoever. Nobody read those stories, so they ended up in the discontinued pile.

Macie Hinds Honestly, it’s scary in general how a lot of people refuse to believe that women can be predators too. Most people will straight up tell them to “man up” or “deal with it”.

Definitely not perfect and there are some that makes me "wtf, how did this one get to the Watty's!?!?" But still better than those fanfics and badboy shiz u see often on Wattpad. And more often than not, it makes u appreciate the young writers honing their skills on this free site and produce something beautiful, as imperfect as they may be in the publishing world, as they slowly but surely improve in the process with their love for writing.

Do these authors just use us to self impose their own fantasies and desires upon us? Because year, after year, after YEAR these types of books come out. The girl is never a NORMAL girl, like, you know, the REST of us. She has to be gorgeous and sexy, and get the most hunkiest of hunks who just want to play Dad (Dad, not Daddy) to her throughout the entire novel. The situations these authors put them in, the environment, SOUNDS like a fantasy. Which is fine if we were dealing with fantasy, but these are contemporary novels, with contemporary 'type' characters, and having them re-enact a 80's montage is not contemporary. Do they think we're stupid? Or that we are so pathetic that we want to see an author pretend like she's a pretty, young, sought after young lady, with no other discernable traits, other than being young, hot and sought after? Do they think we will not notice the lack of plot? These are serious questions. As a writer, you have to bring more than your own personal 'What if I was a'.

Exactly. I hate when authors think that readers has no mind of their own. Some authors think that readers just "read" and can't say anything back. If a reader said something back about how bad their book is, they get all mad and told us to "not read it". Then, why did you published it for readers to read your work? Might as well keep it to the author-self.

I can somewhat understand why the author had her at a club even though she was homeless but what confuses me is that drinks at clubs are usually expensive, especially when the club knows they have a consistent college or university crowd. So why was Veronica drinking so much expensive alcohol that she was drunk? And why was she wearing a club dress if she was homeless? (Also I’m so sorry that you were homeless for a bit, I hope all is better for you now)

What i realized during my book club (yes, book club its amazing) this girl said something that really opened my eyes. Ok so usually when there's a "love triangle" its 2 girls and 1 boy or 2 boys and 1 girl. How is it a love triangle if there is no triangle? Boy likes girl other boy likes girl. It's not a triangle unless one of the boys like each other. (That would actually be interesting) It's just a acute angle. "Love triangle' is so misleading but tbh i didn't even know until she pointed it out.(Sorry for my long explanation just learned some new information and wanted to share)

I’m actually writing a story where the main character is in love with his best friend. But his best friend is a prince who is destined to become the future king and the MC is just a poor kid who lives in the servants quarters. He knows that as they grow older their lives will separate them, so he decides to train to become the kings bodyguard so that way he can always be by his side. The MC spends the next 11 years training. After a few years, there is a coronation ceremony and the prince is crowned King. Following tradition, the greatest fighters in the land gather and fight each other. The strongest man/ woman becomes the Kings bodyguard. He enters the tournament under a guise and wins the last fight by outsmarting his competitor. (His opponent is a dual wielding prodigy and is also his childhood bully. He uses his hubris against him and taunts him, saying he couldn’t possibly beat him with one sword. They fight and the MC wins). He becomes the Kings Bodyguard but shortly after, following tradition of course, the new King is paired with a noble woman and they are married. The king loves the MC but not in the same way and the MC loves him, the new queen loves her husband but is jealous of the bond the two share and feels she can never form a bond that strong with the King. It’s quite sad for everyone involved because they can all never have with they really want but try to do their best at respecting the others wishes and keeping the ones they love happy.

@@kayhaych05 It still wouldn't be a love triangle unless the queen loves the bodyguard/MC. So it would be MC -> King -> Queen -> MC. Boom a true love triangle lol
@Sopran0livia5 жыл бұрын
YESS IVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEARS. Growing up when I would think of love triangles I’d always think of them as “person A loves person B, person B loves person C, person C loves person A” and I when I heard about these stories with “love triangles” like Hunger Games I just never understood why they were marketed as such because I grew up with the other definition. I will say if you want to read a story (well it’s a play but still) that I think does the idea in a really interesting manner you should read Twelfth Night by Shakespeare. In the triangle there’s 2 girls and 1 guy but what’s interesting about it is that 1 of the girls is disguised as a guy and because of this the other girl falls in love with her, thinking that she’s a guy. So, check it out if you’re curious, I really wish more stories with love triangles were written this way!

i really can’t read anything on wattpad because - the grammar might be shite - horrible self-insert characters - too many cliché tropes - horrible portrayals of psychological illnesses (trust me this happens a LOT, especially in fanfictions...) now, i’m okay with some tropes as long as they’re given an original twist. honestly, why not make the female main character witty or flirty or even mysterious herself? or, why not write a story between two people that are similar in terms of personality? where is the originality? my stories are - not to brag - original, yet wattpad doesn’t want to help me, or any smaller authors that have really well-written stories and plots. it’s as if they’re choosing favourites, those wattpad ambassadors. it’s okay to stray from those with 20m followers once in a while, goddamn it. also great review! i actually read the first paragraph and immediately closed out of my app. so glad i found this vid!

The first book is called “Family Comes First (Kidnapped by Cannibals)”, and I really recommend it

Believe me, if you've ever even opened wattpad, you've read fcf. My entire class was obsessed with it in 6th grade. I loved that series. The writer began to run out of ideas near the end, but the first book was solid

Ohhh I love those type of books too! My favorite was "Mommy's House" It was about 3 kidnapped kids who were taken to a house and the woman acts like their mommy(It's really violent and scarier than you think) The author is "z0mbies" she writes all sorts of cool horror stories

Well, that's a funny coincidence: Anna Todd's 'books' are the worst stories I've read in my entire life. So the fact that she blurbed this one as excellent sort of solidifies your point for me.

But Anna Todd's book "After" is so popular that her book turns into a movie..i don't understand if people hate this type of books so why these books become so popular?plz explain.

I saw this and immediately thought back to reading it on wattpad when I was 12. When I was 12 I was way in the cliche wattpad hole, like i lived for that shit, but even in the midst of me being a badboy×goodgirl stan- I thought this "book" was utter shit.

Exactly! And why are they ALWAYS virgins! Why can't she have had a healthy sexual history. Ofc i don't mind girls who are virgins (hell i am a virgin), but they are ALWAYS VIRGINS.

ikr and as she said before. There's nothing wrong when the main characters are virgin. But you don't have to mention it all the time and btw they actually have a sex scene and trust me it's cringey af. What I think about Wattpad books is that they're cliche and by that, I mean the ideas are too overused. In the first few books in the romance and teen fic, I liked it, but after trying a few more books, I found that they had almost the same cliche plots. This annoyed me so much that I changed to the fantasy category.
@kay62545 жыл бұрын
Georgia Merton I recommend kissing is the easy part and it’s sequel, kissing and other necessities. It’s not completely based on their love life and more on their character development. I cried a lot reading it.😢 can’t guarantee that you’ll like it but for me it’s a good book.
