Another wrecker? I think we all want to see the Cascade Heavy Rescue Parade. Silver truck towed by the black truck, towed by the Ford wrecker, towed by this new wrecker, towed by the roll back, with the retromod on the rollback, all pulled by the Zaklift.

Former International 4900/DT466 tractor-trailer driver here, at 21:10, the thing you touch and say "it's a little bit moist", that's the air compressor. at 22:04, the hose that the card is zip tied to, that's the filtered air intake for the air compressor, it should extend over to the passenger side and attach to the filtered side of the air filter box. She is a sweet old truck with a lot of life left!!!

You've probably figured it out by now, the leaking fuel pump/connecters, is dripping on the air compressor. That black hose you were unsure of I sure is connected to the air intake, which is another good feature International tended to put little round paper air filters on the compressor. So when the fuel pump/connections leak it gets sucked in and ruins the filter, you won't have that problem! Great truck!

This will be the best and most reliable truck you ever bought, I know those older IH's with the DT's because I wrenched on them for many years, the only better engine was the DT mechanical engine pre electronic ecm stuff. Very basic trucks and easy to maintain and repair. Also I towed with those Vulcan wheel lift spoons in the 80's, awesome design and because they cupped so well no need for straps, but knowing you, you will strap them anyways LOL.

I have a friend that just bought out the towing company he had worked for many years. They were closing down there operation here in my city but are still in operation in another county. So they offered him the business and building and land with 3 wreckers. And one of those wreckers is just like your green and black one. He also has an International rollback which I got the honor of getting a ride home in when I totaled my van. The other wrecker he has is a semi wrecker. But his smaller wrecker he uses it non stop and has done him well. Watching this video was like walking down memory lane with his. Thanks for sharing Casey. Can't wait to see what you purchase next.

The part you touched on the ds of engine saying it was damp, that's your compressor. The dampness is either oil from the high pressure oil pump mounted above the compressor, or fuel from the fuel lift pump also mounted there. Most likely fuel seeping out of the sleeves international liked to use on their hard lines.

Lucas oil and Engine Restorer got 3 years and 60,000 miles more out of a dead motor in an old Dodge Shadow 4 cylinder. It had less than 50 pounds compression on all 4 cylinders. Took about 2 hours cranking it over to get it to idle, very rough. About two more hours idleing and is was pretty good. Drove it for 3 days and about 100 miles, took it thru emissions and it barely passed. Did oil change with Lucas and Engine Restorer every 3,000 miles. I used it about 3 months. Gave car to a friend who had it for 2 years. He did the oil changes the same. Then he gave the car so someone else who drove it about 6,000 miles and it quit. Compression dropped. I went and picked up the car, which last dude trashed. Did oil change with Engine Restorer and got it running, just to see if it would. Then sold car to scrap yard for $350.00 cause it ran. LOL.

We had a bunch of those Navistars like this one. I learned a couple of things the hard way. Regularly look at the water pump pulley, it’s below the alternator and just by looking check that it is parallel with the front of the engine. If the top of the pulley is farther forward it means the water pump bearing has failed. If you continue to run it the impeller will wear a hole in the front cover causing a leak. The aluminum front cover will have to be replaced. The water pump is easy to replace if you catch it before it ruins the front cover. If the fuel in the tank turns black that’s engine oil. Bad fuel injector o rings. Coolant in the fuel is usually liner o ring failure. Turn the key on and push the engine diagnostic button. The engine light will flash. If the there are codes in the computer the light will flash . Each code is three digits . I love your videos and especially your independent attitude.

25:34 you just touched the air compressor. It’s under the line that’s wet. It’s a bendex two flow 550 compressor. Change the unloader valves. And go. Maybe the governor. Should be good. Unless the air drier is mucked ??

You scored an amazing truck. Granted it will take some TLC but you are the best person to do that. Love your channel and content.

Is the green wrecker is more capable than the little red wreaker? Edit: it would look great in all black Edit 2: should have just waited to watch the video in full when you explained and answered my question 😅

Green machine would definitely have a larger payload, the little red wrecker may beat it off road only because it is 4x4 and a highly doubt the green machine is. Edit: I guess I should have watched the whole thing aswell😅

That’s a great unit Casey, we bought a new 897 (14 ton) in 2000, matched it with a 2000 Chevy 6500, 300 Cat, 9 spd Roadranger, air brakes, great set up. Most of our fleet were Vulcan, from one tons to our Peterbilt 379, I think you will see what a nice, versatile unit that is. Congrats on the purchase!

Drove a 4700 with T444E, slow truck but it hauled well. Also towed with many vulcan wreckers similar to that unit, they tow and recover very well, especially that older generation.

Good in-between wrecker to fill the space between your old Ford 4X4 and the Heavy wreckers. Looks like a pretty good rig.

Early on in my asphalt pilot career my employer who loved binders put me in 1 of his older trucks for a while. Good engine the perfect gear ratio shifted fantastic but the cab was a spring and shock combo. The shock was garbage. When I stopped fast the cab would lean so far forward it felt and looked like it was going to do a "face plant". I loved the looks from the car drivers who saw this. I liked driving and paid my "dues" Varicose veins, back problems, bad knees etc. But as much as I miss driving trucks I love retirement more. Love your channel but "hate you". Keep up the gooooood work.

If you want to branch out to a full towing company, that is a great size truck. Unfortunately, if you grow that way, you really need to add at least a part time diver so that the trucks can turn dollars.

If I was in 20s, looking at towing career. I would offer to work for training, place to hook up camper, small pay for actual jobs. Lots of equipment to learn on, varied towing, recovery ideas. Cousin in MT after injured got work blocking traffic at accidents. Park around that corner with rotating lights, barricades with flashing lights to slow, in some cases stop traffic so accident could be safely cleared. He got back to FD and new guy put up signs to stay in left lane. Thing is they were working in left lane. Idiot put wrong sign, put traffic wrong place but complained when called an idiot.

Casey, I have a friend who is a keen amateur cyclist, he has one or two bikes.... Amongst his peer group they have a saying that the correct number of bikes to own is (N+1) where N is the number of bikes you currently have. There is ALWAYS another one that you need, that is slightly different from what you have at the moment!!

That new one is a great addition. It’s a super versatile size for anything from your Uhaul pulls down to an SUV. I wish I could find a deal on one like it.
