Summer snow storm!

A surprise late season snow storm dumps lots of fresh powder in the Cascade Mountains, so I headed out with a few of the guys from the Central Oregon Land Cruisers, and the 4-Locked crew to take advantage of the rare May storm. The Lexus in the group was having electronic throttle control issues, so we left it behind and took the Toyota's up to a one the high country frozen lakes. Along the way there were quite a few stucks and minor recoveries, then on the way back we had one final off road recovery to get the Lexus spun around and headed back down the mountain

The snow depth there is crazy for this time of year! That is a real good thing for the water table there. So much of the West is in severe drought conditions.

Always amazing what four-wheel drive will do in the snow. This reminded me of climbing Mount Graham to go snow fishing south of Tucson. We had to stop every quarter mile to move the snow out of the radiator because the motor was overheating

Casey, that was some great wheeling. Going in a group like that insures nobody spends the night freezing. I have been snow running in my buggy but since it is flat on the bottom you are done once you break through the crust. Had a ball doing it with my friends yearrs ago.

This was a BLAST!! We currently live up at 9K elevation over here in the Colorado Rocky Mountains! (We ALWAYS get a "May Dump" of snow, but so far,-- no go!) Oh well, we leave for good the end of May! Heading overseas with our pups!! We're gonna miss the snow up here, but we'll have to live vicariously through your winter/snow videos! Loved it. Used to do a lot of that in the 1970 and 1980s. 1978 Chevy 1 ton. Regular cab. Long box . Winch mounted front and back. Lot of ropes. 2 inch that was warn down from a ski hill. 9 inch suspension lift . 18 by 40 tires

There are few adventures I enjoy more in life than driving through snow in places where either no-one else is around or everyone else is doing the same thing for the fun of it. On the highways it's absolutely terrifying because almost no-one seems to know what they're doing and always overestimate the traction of their SUV and underestimate their stopping distance. Major pet peeve is when people push the accelerator to the floor thinking it will give the wheels a better grip - unless they're doing it just for fun. This is the right kind of addiction to have.

How fun is this. You pretty much drive where you want. In the 70's when it did rain and snow in Calif. We were hiking in June, in the Sierra's, between Mammoth and Southern Yosemite. 8"-12" of snow, tennis shoes and light sleeping bags turned us back. my brothers were about 10, I was16, some other friends too. Fun but cold

Wow what fun everyone is having. I expect to see them all stuck but they keep going. And a Toyota PreRunner is two wheel drive. And it's just ripping through the snow ❄️. I would be afraid of getting stuck way back in there. They are all together and travel together. Amazing Casey. Snow ❄️ in mid May. In Colorado I have drove over Loveland Pass on July 4th as it snowed, following my father who was pulling a twenty -one foot trailer. He got stopped due to traffic and couldn't start moving again. I got around him in my 1964 Falcon Sprint, 260 V8, T-10 four speed. I pulled in front of dad, hooked on to him with a light chain. When I started to pull dad I bumped him and he started moving and he would run up on me and have to brake because he had traction and I couldn't get traction. I saw a clear spot of pavement coming up and when I hit the clear pavement I pushed in the clutch, reeved the engine and popped the clutch , breaking the chain. Good thing I only had a light weight chain. After that we were both free to move at our own speed. Crazy

My gosh, that snow was insane! It looked more than the dead of Winter instead of Spring, it looked so cold with that wind howling. Some deep snow. Great time. I live on long Island we used to get snow like this every winter in the 60s now we barely get few inches in one season. It's going south. VA/ tenn gets more then we do.
