Why was the gasket changed in the first place? Leaking? Did the mechanic check the head for warp or just throw another gasket at it. I`d make sure the head is checked for warp and if necessary skimmed before letting him just put another gasket on, and as an aside does that head need re-torquing after x hours on a new gasket ?

I drove a tow truck for 20 years I had to retire in 2010 because of health issues big tow bills in my experience come from greedy owners that don't want repeat customers the trick is knowing when to give a customer a break I usually got myself in trouble doing this like the time I received a CHP call it was 8:30 at night it was raining and when I got out there the vehicle had a flat tire inside the vehicle were for elderly ladies that could have been my grandma on the way home from playing bingo at church now on the CHP call you're looking at that time at about $110 an hour I was not going to charge these elderly women that kind of money so I towed the car off the freeway I changed their tire and sent them on their way I called CHP to let them know that the call was refused so that they put us back on top of rotation there was at the time about 50 companies in rotation I'll make up for it the next call unfortunately one of those ladies called my boss to tell him what an angel I was for helping them out when they needed it the most that got me into a lot of trouble I never was fortunate enough to own my own tow truck but if I did I wouldn't pull half the greedy corrupt crap that I saw in the industry in my years of being an operator

tell me about it. I had a driver on the shoulder of the gowanus expressway during peak traffic, so traffic was moving at 5 mph, and i went down to try and fix the problem (the ecu wire broke off the batteries, easy fix). Tow truck showed up 5 min before me and was yelling at the driver to get out of the truck so he could tow it. The driver kept on saying no, bring the police order, and the guy threatened to run the underreach through him if he got in the way. I went to try and re attach the wire just to get him started but the tow truck driver kept yelling at us to get out of his way. Mind you, there were two other disabled vehicles on this road, one of them in the center of traffic! Although they were single trucks and this was a tractor trailer. Anyway, guy gets his way because im not interested in fighting a guy on the shoulder of a highway, and he pulls the driver off 1 mile, $532. I get the truck running while hes still trying to get his underreach out. Guys only response was "does my truck say not for profit on the side". Some people can be assholes.

As a retired O/O who has spent a few times waiting for a tow far away from home, and wondering how I'm going to pay for it, this brought a mist to this guy's eye! We Love your wit, like "since the exhaust is water-cooled."😅 I'll be forever grateful to a tow driver that came and rescued this Ohio guy climbing a hill this side if Bakersfield, CA. He came out in a single axle rig that had the power to pull, but since I was running a medium duty at the time, he couldn't hook into my electric/hydraulic system. (Which every trip after I carried extra cord and connections) He legally should have left my 50ft trailer loaded down before we took the downhill back toward Bakersfield, but he said "screw it, I'm going to take it all real slow." Saved me a chunk of money! I had a towing plan that wouldn't have covered both tows. Thanks Aura for paying for the tow!!!

The advantage of those transfer dump trucks (we called them "California Transfer") is that you have two loads for the price of one trip to a job-site, and can get each load into a tighter spot than you could with a belly dump or a side-dump trailer and tractor. Such as if you're filling in a garage foundation with gravel to be spread and compacted before the concrete floor is poured. I drove one in Durango, CO back in the late 90's. Other advantage is sometimes you don't need the trailer load and you just go in as a single dump truck, such as on a shorter haul (you calculate the benefits and decide when to use your trailer load or not to). We did an asphalt overlay on the highway from Cortez area up to Telluride and it was very handy on that job because we had to dump asphalt into a laydown machine as the crew drove it slowly forward. Takes a little getting use to operating it but soon it's second nature.

Irrespective of how the truck is fighting him, it's always a great day when Casey is on the job!! Watching you tow the train home, and seeing the "tail" that you collected reminded me of when I learnt to tow my boat. The instructor said, you will always be slower than most of the traffic, so a kind thing to do is to pull into a pub car park, (they are usually long, and have easy entrance/exits), and let the "tail" go, it only costs a minute or two but saves so much aggravation. His other tip was go around the roundabout twice, slowly, that also eases the "tail". Went round one 4 times, but it meant there was no-one behind me for the next 3-4 miles!!
