Yes I know, everybody is an expert operator who could have drove it out. But the simple fact is that when the owner of the half million dollar machine wants it pulled out so there’s no risk, it’s not our call to do otherwise. Besides, it gave me a good opportunity to play with my Zacklift!
@marvindebot32648 сағат бұрын
Na, I'm not that good with a grader and that slope would worry me (I'm assuming it's way worse than it looks on camera) but a decent operator could have, yes. A grader is the most unbogable piece of equipment there is; you should see the conditions they work in out in Central Australia, they really are amazing machines. However, as you said, if the owner wants it towed out, it gets towed out, it's his money.

Back in the early nineties I had a 74 Monte Carlo. I was just cruising around Oregon and swerved to miss an animal in the road and went on to one of them shoulders and I could feel the Right tires start to sink, so I just hit the gas pedal drove down the shoulder clear off into the flat stayed on the gas pedal and drove right back up onto the road. Coming back onto the road the car did go a little sideways and squirrely. For me that was just fun.

The Zack lift never fails to impress! I've been out of heavy equipment for awhile now but watching that grader getting pulled up and over, wow impressive. I agree he could have spent an hour fiddling around and maybe making it worse of have you come out and 10 minutes later he is on his way. Never realized graders were top heavy.

Thanks for the video Casey, I always enjoy watching the big WesternStar ZackLift make moving heavy machinery look like a piece of cake! Good call Casey! I also found myself in a similar predicament too the tag axles in the rear of the bus were supporting the weight of the bus, but my Drive axle tires were spinning loosely because of a concrete curb drain. The Bus I was operating weighs 37000 pounds empty. Unfortunately The engine bottomed out on the ground. Sometimes you’ve gotta call before you do more damage.

Yeah this one looked real simple and easy but in real time and being there it's another thing. If a little wench work and side pulling the grader out is safer and more likely to get the machine back up on the road and moving again with little risk the use the tow truck and get it out. Too many people second guess the people on site doing the work and they should just set back and enjoy watching the video for what it is. A tow truck driver operator doing his job.

Glad I watched until you drove off before asking about the option to steer into it and down to back up onto the road at a steeper angle - of course with all the hassles of dealing with traffic buzzing by. As somebody who has never piloted such a thing, I can just inquire, not suggest. This was certainly the clean option, we got to watch it and I love heavy equipment recoveries. 😊

I always enjoy watching someone who is great at their craft. You with your experience, your knowledge of the tools and equipment, you knowledge of the equipment that your are recovering are a pleasure to watch. Of course we shouldn't loose sight of the awkwardly top heavy piece of heavy equipment that your recovered with the very competent grader operator following instructions as given made what could have been a difficult job very much easier.

I worked on a farm for many years. It was common practice for boss man to have 3 or 4 brand new shovels in his truck. If you got stuck, you got a shovel thrown at you, and it was your job alone to dig it out. Good times. Needless to say, I was fortunate enough not to get stuck.

Seen a couple of county owned road graders in north Dakota that were equipped differently than any I've seen elsewhere. Both graders had hydraulic powered roto tiller attachments front and rear. I asked someone familiar with them about the attachments. His explanation was that the tiller attachments bust up the washboard formations. Those graders must have the high flow hydraulic pumps and oil coolers in order to power such attachments. Never did get to see them in action.

After putting my Oshkosh Rotary snowblower into the soft road edge several years ago, I can sympathize with the operator in not wanting to push his luck any further. It took a road grader to get me back out of the soft shoulder (twice - I'm a slow learner). The third time I figured to go for it and put the transfer into low range and was able to just power out since the wheels had a lot of torque but hardly any speed (I think top speed in low range was around 15mph versus going down the highway at 60 in high)

I have learned several things from watching your roadside recoveries……1. On a four lane road SLOW DOWN and get over as far away as you safely can….2. On a 2 lane road SLOW DOWN and be prepared to stop based on all the other knuckle heads driving. 3. Drive….don’t gawk…..drive away. 🤔😁👍🏼

Graders are meant to drive on these kind of inclines or slopes, they can raise and lower wheels balancing it, leaning it. And grade on slopes
