I've been around DeLoreans most of my life. I wanted to say thank you for actually shinning some truth on some of these myths. @jparsons233
@jparsons233 4 жыл бұрын
Neutrally Neutral comments like this makes me laugh honestly. Usually comes from people that know nothing of the car. Be honest I do NOT like the BTTF movies. There’s so much to the car itself than a stupid movie. To be why would anybody watch a movie about incest & a man making the car look like a mobile meth lab. I’ve been around DeLoreans for 15+ years and I can already discredit your unreliability part right off the bat. Only thing I do not like is that Bosch mechanical fuel injection which is mentioned in this video. I swear that system was designed for Germany’s revenge on losing the war. That system does not like to sit and that’s what most people’s issues are when they try running the car. We know a couple with 800k miles on theirs and a guy with 700k miles on his and he daily drives ever since he bought it in 1981. Yes I know the super early cars roughly 300 or so cars had build quality issues but they greatly improved. The cars handle well and perform rather well. I personally love the styling of the car and the stainless panels. But if you take care of these cars they are actually very reliable. Also they are easier to work on than most cars. Only thing a pain is that fuel system as I said. Converting it over to a modern EFI helps tremendously.

To be fair any car built while bombs and gun battles are going on 200 yards from the factory that is still around must be decent enough but the Delorean couldn't even keep up with a Cavalier SRI 130 i can still see the test track from my house
@BlueOvals24
@BlueOvals24 4 жыл бұрын
@@jparsons233 Those cars do not handle well even by 80's standards. I know many of the flaws with them because one of my former automotive instructors spent a lot of time around them. And any time he mentioned a flaw with a modern car, he would relate it with the DeLorean. As a car, they were terrible. As a company, They failed in the most embarrassing way any automaker has failed. Just because you really like those cars, doesn't mean they were actually good.
@jparsons233
@jparsons233 4 жыл бұрын
Neutrally Neutral the thing that really did hurt handing I’ll admit was raising the front end up. Lowering the car back down the way it should have been really helps. We’ve taken the Delorean on some country roads and went around corners at high speeds. The car does have huge potential. As I said I’ve been around DeLoreans most of my life. I’ve been in a few stock suspension DeLoreans and they handled better than what most said. Well if you really want the best handling out of these cars I do recommend DPI in Ohio. Their suspension set is amazing.

A Delorean passed me on I-385 today and took my exit so it sat next to me idling. It sounded good and much better than 99% of any new cars at idle .This guy knows his stuff . I had an 83 Mondial QV with that same Bosch K-Jetronic FI system . It is durable for sure but due to Ferrari's moderately aggressive cam overlap it never ran the same any two times I drove it for the six years I had it - except above about 4000 rpm which was consistent and oh so lovely . The Delorean is an amazing car .

I love the DeLorean! Such a fun car, of course Back to the Future was my exposure and any time I see one with a time machine conversion it just makes me smile. Last time I was at the Petersen they had a Hollywood movie car display with one and it was great seeing it there. The best for me though is in the small town that I live in we have a Town Square with a "clock tower" and there is a DeLorean in town and every once in a while I find it parked in front of our clock tower and it's just priceless to see.

Wow ... that brought back some memories! In 1981 I autocrossed a Delorean supplied to me by Dunhill Cigarettes for a series championship. Did ok ... class wins, but not competitive for the series overall. Being an early car there were quality control build issues ... running too hot, fitment body/interior things like that and the dealer took care of them. Once you get your head around the fact it's a boulevard cruiser they were a pretty decent piece ... more of a cruiser/GT. As an autocross car it had some serious quirks ... snapping between heavy understeer to heavy oversteer .... had to drive the wheels off it to be competitive ... best bet was to carry speed in the corners an pitch it into a balanced drift while keeping rpm in top end of the range ... but again not really what it was meant for. As an unusual driver, touring or GT piece ... with the bugs sorted (as they well should be nearly 20 years later) it would be a nice piece. Thanks for the memories ... been a very long time since I thought of the "81" season.

Thanks for the great video from another Delorean owner ;) The Delorean has elevated respect and recognition in the public’s eye due to Back to the future, and therefore I understand the knee-jerk reaction from other car enthusiasts to take the car and its fans down a peg. I’ve even been guilty in the past pre-ownership fanboying over it. Tempering expectations to the fact it's a 35-year-old car made in the 80s is one thing, but instead, it’s straight into hyperbole about how bad the car is. Repeating myths that are not true and exaggerating flaws reinforced by all the clickbait Top 10 car articles they see on Facebook.

It was almost $10K more than the Corvette 3) The stainless covered body was not to many peoples' liking 4) (Personal opinion) I don't think the US was ready for a six cylinder "performance" car that didn't come from Stuttgart. I myself thought they were the coolest thing around, but people voted with their checkbook and mine would've bounced like a basketball.

This is the FIRST DeLorean review that finally cut out the bullshit and looked at the car from an accurate standpoint. I've owned 2 of them, current '82 owner, and they're only bad cars if you don't know what you're doing. The problem DeLoreans have is a bad impression brought on by the media, and movie people that buy them that aren't, and never will be, car people. A DeLorean is not easy to own by any means but, in a lot of respects, it's easier to own than most as well. The only time I've ever been stranded in one was when I installed a new fuel pump and didn't tighten down the main feed line all the way. The slander is unfortunate, but it comes with the territory of owning one. Most reviews are put on by people that own basket cases and perpetuate the myth and present the same damn thing over and over. Thank you for finally stepping back and presenting one truthfully, Casey.

I have a 81 delorean as well as a 78 esprit s2. I just love Giugiaro's stylings from the 70s and 80s with the folded paper design. Nothing else like it and never will be due to modern safety standards. Love an honest look at the delorean. Of all myc ars i owned in my life shes been an obsession and is my favorite by far. But with that comes the car that no one knows anything about. When i bought my car i have heard so many people quote incorrect crap about the car and i didnt know where they were hearing this stuff, between modern muscle guys hating on it, people selling the doors were used to traffic coke to jzd was a scumbag. I learned to just let people be people and talk while I ignore them because LOL WHO CARES, I own the car, fuck'em! Anyway cheers mate great video.

ONE POINT TWENTY ONE GIGAWATTS!!!! I owned an '87 Isuzu Impulse Turbo, loved that car to death but parts were impossible to find. Anyway, it too was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Loved the shapes of the cars he designed!

Well you're kind of flying in the face of the facts. For a start delorean was a disgusting maggot of a human being. He admitted as much on camera in court. You can find it here and see him admitting it. He had a disgusting smirk on his face. He has a history of defrauding people. He specialized in disabled pensioners. He dared not and did not return to the UK because he knew a ten year prison sentence awaited him for embezzlement of public funds. Among his theft from the Irish public was one scam he and Colin Chapman perpetrated. That particular eight million pounds was actually recovered from a fake company set up by he and Chapman. That was recovered before delorean could get to it. Chapman only avoided prosecution by dying. The whole " Lotus refinement " thing was a scam. Even Lotus employees reported that. The thing just sat in the corner except for the few times delorean brought big wigs to visit. It would then be pulled out and have guys poring all over it. Complete joke and complete fraud. Chapman was actually bilking the public too trying to keep struggling Lotus afloat. Chapman was not of good character either but that's not news. And you " don't know where people are hearing this stuff " ? They are hearing it from engineers, auto testers, owners, people who have had to maintain them and generally anyone who is exposed to them I had to maintain two for the same guy for almost 4 years. I have to admit they weren't too hard to work on nor really expensive because they were built from the low end parts from low end mass produced cars. Their design is atrocious, their performance is atrocious, their handling is atrocious and their construction is about the same. The terrible suspension design results in bump steer, rear steer and generally vague steering and road holding. Don't be suggesting that nobody knows what they are talking about. People who actually know which way is up know all about them. They are a disgusting con just like delorean. They are a thrown together hotch potch of cheap components and they drive accordingly.

That is such a beautiful car. I love the straight lines of the design; convex, compact mid section that is coupled with those muscular oval wheel arches and the outer arching lower section of the car. Those wheels are gorgeous with those high profile tires. It looks planted on the road. This car looked futuristic in the 80s and now looks like what those old futuristic illustrations imagined the future to look like. It looks retro-futuristic. All they have to do is take this design exactly as it is and do upgrades of quality. On the outside add LED headlights, better plastic, hide the exposed parts, etc. On the inside do a total upgrade, update the internals with modern materials, give it a better dashboard with LED screens. Finally, put in an electric motor, all wheel drive and 1.21 gigawatts battery

When I was stationed on Guam, a friend of mine ended up purchasing a modified R33 GTS-t Skyline that had been illegally imported. It had a good bit of stuff done to it including an Apexi Power-FC and some kind of turbo upgrade (I can't remember what it was, although I believe it was also from Apexi) and a full 3.5" exhaust. It tore ass. Reason why I mention this is because of the speedometer thing. Japanese speedos went up to 180 KPH which is something around 114 MPH if I remember correctly. It just so happens that Guam's main highway (top speed of which was 45) has a long, straight stretch going north before you hit the Air Force base. Well, my buddy was not afraid to stretch the legs of this car out and he hit an estimated 180 MPH. Yes, MPH. The needle went all the way past 180 KPH, wrapped around back to zero, and went to at least 60 or so. We actually calculated the speed based on the actual KPH that the Power-FC had logged. There's more to that story that I won't get into involving SWAT detaining him on the Air Force base, but I will never forget how ridiculous it was to see a speedo wrap all the way around and then some. Yes, a speedo definitely does not indicate the top speed of the car! On a side note, I love the DMC-12. Always have. I STILL want one! Maybe someday!

Cool video Casey! Learned a few things from it! Main one being that all these years, for some reason, I always thought that they had Buick V-6's. Couldn't tell you where I ever heard that, but to day was for sure the first time I ever heard anything about the Volvo motor. Nice EAA hat too! LOVE going to the Airventure.....I'm only an hour south of Oshkosh.

Hey Casey!! My buddy bought an '81 DMC 12 brand new. Man, he LOVED that thing!! BUT!!!! The central locking system had flaws. When I say flaws, the car would NOT unlock to let you out!!! But thanks for showing a sorted one!
