I emailed you with a response to your need for an auto transmission rebuild kit. Still have it sitting here in my garage. Everything you are dealing with is - believe it or not - rather typical when you're bringing a DeLorean back to life. I recognize nearly everyone of these issues. As others have stated, you can disconnect the central door locking module in a real bind, an the doors will go from auto-locks to manual lock/unlock. That'll get you out of the car as the electronic solenoids will be disabled. The acceleration issue is definitely either the fuel or ignition system, and I would highly lean towards the fuel system. Remember, this is an all mechanical, Bosch K-Jetronic fuel system. Any one thing is out of whack, and you'll experience it. There is no "modern day EFI" on these 1970 components. Quite frankly, and it'll suck, but you need to go over practically all the components of the fuel system: fuel filter, fuel injectors, pump w/hose baffle setup and the fuel distributor are all possible sources of your issue. Your gas gauge sticking sraight up is more than likely a failed fuel sender. The engine cover clicks into place by means of a spring-loaded, triangular bracket that should be mounted on the back-middle of the engine compartment wall, and the lower engine cover will have a bracket that the piece clicks into. Your speedometer not working (outside of the failed cable that was showcased in this video) will probably come down to a failed angle drive - a unit that is mounted inside the driver's side wheel hub area. Now, all of this being said, you have a wealth of knowledge available if your Google-Fu is strong enough. When I got my DeLorean 15 years ago, there were like - 2 websites - that had information. I can advertise the typical vendors all day long, DMC-Houston and its subsidiary locations all over the US (Chicago, Orlando, Seattle, LA), DeLorean Auto Parts, and DeLorean Performance Industries - all of them can help you with available parts and helpful knowledge. I recommend you jump into the community forums (Google: DeLorean Forums) and start asking questions. Once the "20 year old rust" is broken, these cars actually are not all that bad to work on. Then there's the other route: engine and transmission swap. Nearly every single engine-swapped DeLorean will have a manual transmission. The auto is just too fragile to handle anything over 150 to 170 WHP. Nearly all the LS swaps (yes, plural) that have been done started as auto trans DeLoreans. The two VR6 engine swaps had auto transmissions, and both have been or are currently being converted to manual transmissions. The V8 Lotus engine DeLorean has a manual as well as the 2JZ DeLorean. Bottom line here: if you swap the engine, get ready to go all in and do the transmission too. I own one of the VR6 engine DeLoreans, and trust me, the auto will be blown to pieces if you start thinking to go the engine swap route. Hope I can get the auto trans rebuild kit to you. If I don't hear from you after this, I'll assume you are not interested. Sorry for the book. Some of us are trying to help you, and I figured typing it all out here might get noticed before another email. See you in the future.

Hey Hoovie. You can buy the license plate and the mirror glass from DMC Houston. Also a fix for the door locks is to disable the central locking system. I did so in my DeLorean and it fixed my sticky door locks. You just unplug it's fuse.
@Ramblin_DMC6 жыл бұрын
The license plate bezel* I mean. I've owned my DeLorean for about three years and I love the stupid thing. It's a turd but it's a cool turd. I'd also look at your K Jet fuel distributor. If the plunger inside is stuck it'll make it run rich when you left off the throttle. Remove the plunger and simply lubricate it. It solved the same issue with my car. Also check your idle speed motor. It can cause similar issues. I have had no problems getting parts for my DeLorean. Between the different DMC dealerships, DeLorean-Auto-Parts, DeLorean Performance Industries, DeLorean-Go, PJ Grady, Rock Auto, and the DeLorean forums, I've found all the parts I needed to get mine on the road. There's even plenty of cross reference parts available at your local auto parts stores. Like the alternator and brake master.

The speedo has a plastic cap on the hub on the drivers side front wheel, it strips often. The angle drive (where your cable is disconnected) on the speedo cable binds, and strips the plastic hub. That car has been sitting, very common that the fuel is turning from a liquid to varnish. We sent our Delorean to PJ Grady in New York from Florida. Please no 88 Back to the Future jokes, literally I'd be rich if I had a nickel for every joke (bought the car new in1981). With an automatic your car could possibly dyno under 100HP, figure 130BHP minus 20-25% drivetrain loss. Our Delorean also has the fake driver exhaust tip. Ours tip is just welded onto one of the bends, it's horrible looking from underneath. I drove a Stage III Delorean at DMC and it moved pretty good. It had a turbo (5-6psi), headers, ported heads, cam, performance exhaust and fuel upgrades. It sounded identical to a late 80's Porsche 911 Turbo. Even spending 10's of thousands for this package it had about 320HP. Ours needs lots of work, been working on it little by little for many years.

Love your channel. I had a friend who's Dad had one in the early 90s. I assume the speedometer still works. If that goes out, it's not a simple fix. He had a manual transmission so the automatic might be different. The speedometer cable does not connect to the driveline, but it connects to the LEFT FRONT Wheel assembly and uses a small plastic L shaped plastic piece. To replace it requires a part rebuild and the entire left suspension has to be removed. I ended up making a chart which corresponded to the revs on the tach to give him a guesstimate of the speed. If memory serves correctly, it uses a Peugeot transmission but not sure about the automatic. I hope this info helps.

Going online in the wizard’s office is exactly what you do guys! DMC Houston, DeLorean Go etc. Are all online. DMC Houston have full exploded parts diagrams online. You will be very unlucky to find a part you can’t find. As for going to the corner auto store for parts, you’ll be surprised. The brakes for example...Front callipers are Ford. Pads are Ford Escort/Cortina. Rear callipers are Jaguar, XJ/XJS Pads. If you need the new pistons for the rear callipers note they are larger diameter than the regular Jaguar ones and cross reference as Daimler limo pistons. The DeLorean is sometimes referred to as a “parts bin car” however it’s not. There are a fair number of parts that were deliberately shared with other cars in order to meet the extremely tight development and production schedule. Which I think is a industry record that will remain unbeaten. What this does mean is you can find some parts cheaper or more convenient from other sources. E.g. interior light from Renault. Ashtray from Porsche/TVR. Glove box light switch from Rover. You get the idea. None of the faults on your car are anything out of the ordinary. I think the Wizard needs to send you into the fuel tank to clean out all the black sludge you will find. This is “Fuel tank diving” and is the initiation for DeLorean ownership😉👍

I've restored two Deloreans. When replacing the door struts get the new "soft lift" they open fast to about 80% then slow down at the last second to protect the fiberglass holding the strut mount. If it's the original alternator replace it with an updated one. The OEM alternators dont put out enough amps and you can have serious wiring issues. Vin# 1767 and #4552

In the UK there's a TV show called 'wheeler dealers'. Search for the one where they restored a Delorean, and they managed to find OEM and stuff, from memory there's a place in the US which has a load of parts.

Don’t bother with a transmission rebuilt. Take it as an omen and do a manual swap. In fact, swap the whole drivetrain. I mean, let’s face it, if any car needs a more powerful engine, it’s the delorean! It’s such a waste, having a car that looks that good, but only having 130bhp! A GNX Turbo V6 maybe?
@PazuzuStalker6 жыл бұрын
Matthew Brown These cars have entered the "Matching Numbers" category... scrapping original parts for modern stuff could be devestating for its future value.
@matthewbrown20376 жыл бұрын
Hi. I get that vehicles with matching numbers will always be more valuable than one that’s been modified. When it comes to rare cars, like Ferrari GTO’s, Lamborghini Miura’s, Dodge Chargers with a factory 426 etc, it can make a big difference to its value, as cars like this fetch ridiculous amounts of money. But, with a car like the Delorean, of which there are quite a few examples, they never lived up to the hype and left customers disappointed. The car looked great, but performance was mediocre at best. In cases like this, with Tyler’s car needing a lot of work and being automatic, I really don’t see a problem with helping give the car the potential it should have had from the beginning, If the company hadn’t faced the problems it did. And done properly I can’t see it affecting its overall value too much, as who wouldn’t want a Delorean which went as well as it looked like it should. After all, with these cars lasting as well as they do, given their construction, I can’t ever see them becoming so rare they become super valuable. So, tastefully modifying a few of them into a better, more enjoyable car surely can’t hurt.

Hello from Northern Ireland where your De Lorean could have been built, sort of! There are many enthusiasts with De Lorean's in the UK. Some have even painted them. Looks stunning in bright red! Just 8600 approx built in Dunmurry, Belfast. I see DMC in Texas builds the DeLorean from stock parts at a cost of around $100,00 per car. Enjoy the Delorean :-)

Assuming that the Delorean has a dual master cylinder for the brakes, I'd start looking for problems there, then follow the brake lines down to the rear wheels, then check out the brake calipers... The parking brake uses a separate cable system, so that's why it still works.

The PRV v6 is part of what makes the car iconic. It was in the Alpine A310 that DeLorean owned and used as inspiration. Why they did not choose to go with version as tuned as the ones in the Alpine A310, GTA, 610, various Venturi models. Even the Euro Peugeot 505 has approx 180hp by way of a more aggressive cam and larger injectors. (No headwork) Save the LS for a badass dune-buggy.
