The Alero and Aurora both had similar rim styles. If the tires are 235/60R16, odds are they are Aurora. I owned a 96 and any tire shop I would call about tires knew it was an Aurora as soon as I gave them the tire size, so they must have been pretty unique to that car at the time.

Shelby was super hyped about that aurora v8 when I came out. GM spent tons on development.

I would drive the crap out of that car. Very good looking car. Comes from a time when designers could actually design a car that someone is proud to drive said vehicle unlike today with all these goofy 5 year old EV designers whose designs are very douchey.

I heard you mention Seafoam fuel system cleaner. I suggest something like Techron, BG 44k or Redline fuel system cleaners. You want a high PEA content since that chemical is the best for cleaning the fuel system and carbon. Seafoam is nothing more than isopropyl alcohol and a couple other chemicals. Decent as a fuel stabilizer, but doesn’t do much cleaning.

@@CaseyPutsch I am not - genuinely curious of the history of the car as it's a pretty interesting idea. Was it refreshed in the late 90s with an updated powertrain? Edit - or was that a joke saying that they built it with 70s/80s construction styles?

What was the rationale for using automatic transmissions in GM based supercars of the time? The Vector also used a TH350, I think.
@nthgth5 ай бұрын
My guess would be that they couldn't find a manual 'box that could easily bolt up to the engine *and* handle the power, and I guess they were too cheap to commission one from Getrag or something
@Chris-hq7nl5 ай бұрын
@@nthgth that’s fair. I remember reading that the 80s F Bodies couldn’t have a stick with the 350 because the T5 couldn’t handle the torque from even an 80’s TBI 350.
@nthgth5 ай бұрын
@@Chris-hq7nl I kinda remember reading that that wasn't the real reason; that they just more or less cheaped out on certification by limiting the build combinations. Could be wrong on that. But what you say is very plausible, and remember this car is mid-engine so it's possible that not just any manual transmission would've been eligible even if it could handle the torque. The Aurora powertrain is transverse, so I would think something like a T-5 would be out of the question anyway. Just spitballing though; I know almost nothing about this car (or the Vector).
