Nellie was where my Dad retired back in ‘72. I believe the ‘Birds were F-4s then, which was my Dad’s favorite plane. (He was not part of the demonstration team.) I miss that jet noise. I went to early elementary school at Manch, back when Craig Road was two-lanes and we had to cross a patch of desert to get to the school. That sand stung like hell on my legs! Love the Thunderbirds!!!! Love to watch their videos when I can.

Watching this was special for me! at 3:46 in the video, going through the main ramp doors, turning left into the Flight Equipment room which is special to me. My lithograph is hanging on the right side as you enter the room. The photo was taken in 2015 of Maj. Jason "Jaws" Curtis taxing out during a "Grey" launch at Buckley AFB during a practice sortie for the 2015 RMA Airshow. The photo was printed in 2015 and has been floating around various offices/rooms in the hangar ever since.

I was on the Team a few years before this and it warms my heart to see our replacements doing it better than we did. You got the full brief, even got to help the crew chief. Pretty special treatment. Congrats.

Spent 8 years total with my air force. 6 years as a PMEL tech (nobody remembers that) and another two as a jet engine mechanic (or motor mac as we called it) with my beloved Colorado Air National Guard. Go Colorado Cougars!

I've personally known many fighter pilots over the years and have never heard on have anything but praise for the crews that keep the aircraft flying. Also, in all the Aviation History books I've read, not one even slightly diminished the work of the ground crews.

Like the last video with the maintenance officer, now we have a pilot wearing his hat on the flight line. As the elite Air Force Demonstration Team, these people should know better.

In every demo I've seen, both Thunderbird and Blue Angel pilots always wear caps on the flight line. They don't come off 'til they switch to helmets.
@billr.1230
@billr.1230 3 жыл бұрын
@@chapterrv Not sure why they do this but the wearing of caps on an Air Force flightline is generally a no no. Navy folks wear helmets on a carrier always.
@chapterrv
@chapterrv 3 жыл бұрын
@@billr.1230 I know the risk is caps could get sucked into an engine. But I wonder if this threat is minimal for the Blues and 'Birds since they're typically not near other planes that have engines running. It's a good observation and would love to find out, myself
@billr.1230
@billr.1230 3 жыл бұрын
@@chapterrv I'm quite sure that's the reason. It's just that I've seen both teams dozens of times over the years and never noticed that before.
@mortarman81MM

@@chapterrvThere are a number of reasons why the flight line is typically a no-hat zone, FOD, of course, being foremost among them. As a former Thunderbird, I can tell you the reason the Os wear their hats on the ramp is that's how we do it during a show; you train like you "fight".

8:13 oh lord that's embarrassing X D. the fan is your first 3 stages. I'm an engine troop too. Even a new troop straight out of tech school will know this. I'm sure it was an honest mistake though.

Good view behind the scenes. Just as one would imagine, everything in the maintenance shops is extremely well laid out, inventoried, even the torque wrench calibrations have a date so they know when to calibrate again! But... I didn't understand 99% of the dialog / words / chat! The audio is TERRIBLE on this video! Next time, do it with hand held microphones or boom mikes directed at each and every speaker! And try to do it when there is not so much noise from ground power carts, and jet engines starting up! USAF ramps can be noisy! (I know... I flew F-4D and RF-4C in Viet Nam. Flew F-101, F-102, F-106 before that. T-37, T-33, T-38 as well as several others.)
