We are On the Road Again, this time for a multiple day project to help clean up the mess from a Flash Flood in Springdale Utah. The parking area was mess the rest of the town was mess and the Zion National Park was a mess. The community came together to help get started on the major part of the cleanup. We had several businesses destroyed, cars and infrastructure in pretty rough shape. It was awesome to see so many volunteers and people step up to get the job done. Thanks for coming along for the ride and Thanks for Watching.

Watching this makes me think of Johnny Cash's "Five Feet High and Rising." "We gotta head for higher ground. We can't come back 'till the water goes down. Five feet high and rising." It had been awhile since I'd heard "The Mississippi Squirrel Revival." Looks like a good place for a manure scraper, to help move that soupy mud, and get down to relatively clean pavement.

I was at Zion National Park last week (7/14/21-7/16/21) on vacation. I drive a 2015 Ford F-250 super duty truck. While in Springdale I noticed that my vehicle was not driving correctly. Within minutes the check engine light came on advising me that the exhaust filter had to be cleaned. I began to panic because I was 1,600 miles from home (Texas) and the Ford dealership in St. George had just told me that it could take up to 3 weeks to get my truck in the shop. So, I drove down to Hurricane in an attempt to get this issue resolved. A gentlemen in town referred me to Casey's automotive. I pulled up to the shop fearful of what they were going to tell me. All my fears were set aside once I met the personnel at the shop. They were kind, friendly and very knowledgeable in automotive care. The did the "regenerate" procedure on the truck and 45 minutes later I was on my way to Texas. I will forever be grateful to Casey's automotive. You all are the real MVP'S!!!

Who pays you on a job like that? Does the lodge pay you through their insurance company? Do individual car owners pay you? Did the County contract you?
@giuliom8520
@giuliom8520 3 жыл бұрын
@@badgerpa9 I think the resort may have paid him, or the resorts insurance, or maybe the county contracted him, or all three; but I seriously doubt Casey passed up paying customers elsewhere and hauled all that equipment up there for several days for donated work. After all, America is not a third world country. There's plenty of tax money, insurance money, and private money around to keep Casey paid and in business when something like this happens. This is how it is in successful first world capitalist countries.
@straybullitt
@straybullitt 3 жыл бұрын
It looks like some of the cars received substantial flood damage and the owners just left them for the insurance company to deal with. I'll venture to guess that Casey will get paid for the towing and storage on all of the cars towed to his yard. In addition, if my vehicle was stuck in the parking lot, but still driveable, I would be making a deal with him to yank it out to solid ground. As it said in the ending credits, there were lots of volunteers, and the community came together to help clean up. I'll bet that a lot of time that Casey spent there was uncompensated, and done purely from the goodness of his heart.
@CaseysOffRoadRecovery
@CaseysOffRoadRecovery 3 жыл бұрын
We will get paid on the cars we hauled to town and have in our storage lot. The equipment and time spent on scene over 5 days was my donated time as well as hundreds of other people and businesses helping each other get things whipped back in order. That is the silver lining of events like this, it shows the good in humanity.

@@CaseysOffRoadRecovery I was involved with the debris removal of the burnt homes in the aftermath of the California fires and dump trucks were getting paid well over $100 an hour for almost 5 months by the government. Should snow removers donate their time and equipment because of every big snow storm? How is this any different? If you lived in snow country, you'd be out of business long ago. Local governments have the ability to pay you for your work in situations like this, it's why we pay all those taxes. I could understand volunteering to save lives, but not for cleaning up mud or pulling out stuck vehicles. Obviously it's illegal and very immoral to gouge people in this situation, but getting reimbursed for your time and loss of business for something like this in not unreasonable. Hand them a bill and see what can be negotiated. I'm sure your competition will be doing this. After all, the government would do the same to you, wouldn't it? Everyone has been paying taxes all this time for this.
@straybullitt
@straybullitt 3 жыл бұрын
@@giuliom8520 The burned houses cleaned up in the CA fires, are done when a disaster zone has been declared, and the government has a vested interest in trying to ensure that hazardous materials from multiple sources, which are in most homes and garages, do not end up in the ground water via seepage, or runoff into creeks and streams. They offer to clean it up in a timely manner, which most property owners gladly accept. The government doesn't normally clean up the debris from a single home or building that randomly burns down. Private property owners are responsible for various disasters that may occur on their property, as it should be. Insurance covers many common disasters, but flooding and earthquakes are generally not included, and require expensive additional insurance that many people choose not to purchase. Before big government programs, and insurance, people had to depend on their friends, neighbors, and community, when help was needed. It's how things got done. It's nice to see that sense of community still exists in places like Southern Utah. It becomes more and more rare as time goes on.

My daughter and her friend went camping ⛺️ at the Watchman campground at the end of May. They loved the Narrows, and the other hiking and sight seeing places and the town of Springdale. So I got excited and convinced my husband fo us to go visit Zion for a week. So I booked our hotel in beautiful Springdale for July 11-16, 2021. I started doing my research and homework all about our upcoming trip, including watching videos of other visitors, I was so excited and counting the days when we will get there. But something always kept telling me in the head that somehow this trip is not gonna happen for us, and it was too good to believe that we are going. I was thinking what may happen that we may not go after all. Many things crossed my mind, but not a mudslide in town. I kept planning our itinerary for that week anyway. Then we saw the news of the destructive flash flood, and sadly had to cancel the reservation. We feel very bad for the local people who live there and the tourists that were there during the flood. But glad that everyone is ok and are helping each other. We could’ve been there and stuck in the mud too...I guess we got lucky this time. Now hope our luck goes with us, because we got a new reservation to go to Kanab and visit The National Parks around there since we already took vacation time off of work. 🙏🙏🙏#Springdalestrong #Amazingpeople #Hardworkers🙏🙏🙏

what a total cluster muck. It has been a weird weather year. Heavy rains can cause all grades of problems. I suspect flash floods are not a stranger to Southern Utah. We get the occasional flash floods around here. I worked at a major mall in Raleigh. Crabtree Mall. It was in a valley area near Crabtree Creek and every time there was a substantial rain the lower level park decks would become lakes. The worst flooding occurred after Hurricane Fran in Sept of 1996.

@@CaseysOffRoadRecovery Awesome. That’s excellent to hear. I am no expert of course. My thoughts were the grader can’t reach next to cars, skid steer can’t grade to the edge of the road but the rear mounted blade on a tractor could fit into those tighter areas. What we don’t have here is snow plows, I have absolutely no idea of their capability. The other thing I didn’t notice was bush fire vehicles being used to wash down paths or even the brakes on the cars or under the cars to free them. But that’s cool. Great to see a community working together to clear up a “disaster zone”

Well; the positive thing is the lodge will have more landscape boulders after they get things cleaned up and they did not have to buy them.

Thank goodness the budwiseer truck made it in. And just think if no one would have built in this area this destruction of property would have never happened.

This video shows the amount of mud flows to be quite a bit more extensive than was apparent in your first, brief video. 20:53 Even a tracked skid steer is struggling to find traction to move a relatively light car set in 'Park' That means the mud qualifies as glue. 13:47 It looks like the essentials are successfully being delivered by the red semi. :)
