The bug looks like a type of 'burying beetle'. They're very cool when alive - they find a dead bird or rodent then measure it by running up and down the body. This tells them how many colony members they'll need to bury it! Clever, huh? Then they bury it and lay their eggs, the larvae of which feed on the body. 😊 Mind you, the antennae threw me a bit, I'd have to take a closer look at them and the wings as it could also be a meal moth - it depends if the wings are soft or more like a shell. 🤓

On Google Lens it says it could be a Monolepta beetle. Not sure if that's true or not, but some of the images match up.
@Drakkena5504 жыл бұрын
I was doing a bit of looking into Monolepta's and a lot of what I saw didn't seem to match. Monolepta's are also from Indomalaya, East Asia and Africa (Though they could potentially be brought in with imports obviously). My best guess would actually be a Firefly since after looking closely it looks like the light on the end of the tail was crushed which would have spilled the chemicals of the tail to cause the stain I was seeing. But that's just my own guess though.

@Drakkena5504 жыл бұрын
@@xiro333 - There are a lot of different types of Fireflies out there. The ones I'm actually used to look a bit like the one there. It all depends on location really. I was doing a lot of searching and comparing when I brought up it potentially being one. Especially with region/location likely being a big factor in things. This is more just a guess but that's what I saw that looked the most similar while looking into it. Still a bit oh my god having it in the kit to begin with, whether it's a firefly or another type of beetle.

It’s definitely disappointing that the pencils didn’t smell like anything because of the fact that in my middle school at the store they had “Smencils” pencils. They were scented nicely and like what they were described. They were typically normal lead, and the ones we bought came in individual plastic tubes and we all assumed that was to keep the smell in tact. I liked the rootbeer one!

Smencils and Smens are a huge deal at my son’s school. The school gives them away as rewards and the kids can buy them too. The kids collect them and even trade them like Pokemon cards. @LucyZart3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it counts as science learning if they don't tell why the color is moving up the fake flower stem. They also don't help kids understand the separation of the dyes as colors radiate out to the petal tips. It is just an activity if they don't explain color mixing either... A really slow activity.

The flower kit reminds me of the flower experiment where you split the ends and put each half into a differently colored water and then you have rainbow flowers because science is happening. Which is what was happening in this kit as well, the colours went 👆

I live in Australia so the product may vary across the world, but I own the silly scent crayons and the scent is pungent and the pigment is really good and they are smooth on the paper, though the scent fades once it’s on paper so you can’t smell it on the paper. and Jackie I love how you are so honest and your videos are amazing and so uplifting.

So I think when it comes to the “STEAM” branding, it seems each letter is associated with a “subject” (Science, technology...etc) and when steam is written it seems a certain letter is highlighted or capitalized to show which subject the specific kit is associated to, in this kits case steAm, the A being for art. So I don’t believe it’s necessarily always science. 🤷🏼♀️
@Lina_BF4 жыл бұрын
Yep, I think the same.
@GenericFruitLoops4 жыл бұрын
I think the A is just highlighted because Crayola added "ArT" to the traditionally taught STEM program of schools. They think they're being clever.
@keeleyruby72214 жыл бұрын
My school did stem but I live in Australia so things may vary
@lydia58304 жыл бұрын
@@GenericFruitLoops actually steam was already a thing they taught in schools (or at least in mine). My little sister did Steam experiments in 3rd grade while in 6th grade I did stem experiments.

I think they *want* you to think that it’s science but if anyone asks they can say they meant it to be for the A in STEAM
