A Bond girl with more wit than Bond himself? The über sultry Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) shows us she can hold her own.

Such a simple scene. This is what makes a Bond film, in my opinion. Not gadgets or grand set pieces, but two humans at the peak of their abilities fighting for dominance, with their minds or with their fists. I still stand by the claim that Casino Royale is the greatest Bond film ever made, and is also a phenomenal film in its own right.

Jeffrey Madeleine Maybe you didn't understand what I mean when I said "simple". It's simple in that it's two people meeting for the first time on a train. We know Vespa is James' contact, but that's it. The scene's grandiosity and depth comes from what I hinted at: their chemistry and dialogue. The scene itself could have been left out in a film of lower calibre as it adds very little to the main plotline. In this case, however, leaving it in was invaluable.

Probably the single best scene ever written and acted in a James Bond movie, including some of the best by Sean Connery. I still chuckle out loud every time I see this, almost 12 years after I saw Casino Royale for the first time. Kudos to the director, scriptwriters, Daniel Craig and Eva Green. Perfect ending for the 4 Daniel Craig movies, opening a whole new era for the new Bond actor after Bond 25, that is the last on Daniel Craig's contract, we'll see if he will finish it. He is bored to death he said, "I will rather cut my hands and bleed to death then play one more bond movie" he said while doing Spectre, kinda weird when he is one of the producers lol. I surely hope there will never be a "dark" James Bond, i can accept another agent with another name because James Bond is a white person in the books right? Idris Elba was going to be the new Bond, but then they need to change the characters name too.

It's all about seamlessness and getting the other person to do what you want by stating what you want implicitly. Bond appears unfazed by her beauty and intelligence. She herself knows that she's beautiful, which is why she doesn't break eye contact with him either. She wants to see if he'll crack under pressure. By far the best ever Bond. Like Craig, Green was flawless. The dialogue in this scene is world-class. This scene and the one in the shower (where they are recovering from the knife attack) is superb.

This really is one of my favorite movies. There are some movies that when I see a clip I want to go watch the entire movie (The Dark Knight, The Big Lebowski, Taxi Driver, etc.) and this is one of them.

Listening this dialogue makes me chuckle a bit. Here’s an actress who’s French and speaks in a British accent, but has a few intonations of a French accent. While the Actor, who’s British, speaks English with a slightly American Accent. Strange but quite amazing!
@broadshoulder10 жыл бұрын
Agree with Green, but Bond doing a Yank accent. He's a scouser - they don't do American. Imagination much?

I love the battle of wits that are so typical in Bond films. Its really what makes or breaks a movie in my opinion, is the ability to speak effectively and in a way that's entertaining to the audience while making it seem very natural.

She is in my opinion, the PERFECT Bond girl. To say Eva Green is beautiful is actually an insult to describe how out of this world gorgeous this creature is. Every other Bond girl at least in the Daniel Craig series pales in comparison to Vesper Lynd. Dr.Madeline Swann in Spectre is a cutie and for the most part she did very well but the chemistry between her and Bond was very much lacking.

Don't forget the script in Casino is better than the subsequent bond films. More interesting relationship development, etc.

This scene is soo much better than the one in Spectre. Every line reveals plot and/or character. The dialogue is witty and full of charm. Spectre was just so bland and forced.
@Peacelover12128 жыл бұрын
+josevonbuergenwader2 I agree. As much as I love Lea Seydoux and Craig's Bond, I don't really understand how their relationship works? To me it felt rushed and forced, especially when they don't really have much of interactions. It's just some dialogues (nothing special imo), and then her character suddenly went from 'fuck you' to 'fuck me', but I guess that's just attraction (I mean it's a Bond movie, what do you expect). But didn't they fall in love with each other at the end? I can't understand that part. The whole dynamics between their characters was just not enough.
@josevonbuergenwader28 жыл бұрын
Peacelover1212 At the end she comes completely out of left field and says she loves him and i was like "REALLY? WHY? BASED ON WHAT?"
@josevonbuergenwader28 жыл бұрын
L3ndzo83 It's because Bond finally met a woman who challenges him. They are testing each other. What substance does the other girl bring beyond being a damsel in distress and a literally paper-thin romance? Her character development is absolutely minimal. It's not even the actress' fault. It's the writing.
@plumeria668 жыл бұрын
+Benny Ryan I don't know why they changed the screenwriters and directors after Casino Royale being such a big hit. The movies all went south after that.
@LexingtonDeville9848 жыл бұрын
+Benny Ryan Spectre was so middle of the road that it was positively anaemic. Casino Royale was the best Bond film with Craig in the role, then Skyfall.
@kkbaby304 жыл бұрын
This movie is nothing like the other Bond joints. It could easily be a standalone film, one and done. Not only that, but there's really no camp, just raw, gritty and realistic situations with deep characters. Vesper's arc is so good, especially that ending.
@Widiach2 жыл бұрын
This scene makes me feel there’s something more than just phenomenal acting. Their eyes, those lights from their eyes and how they “bite” every single spoken word... it makes me feel they like each other FOR REAL!
@Oberwoot8 жыл бұрын
So this scene alone is 10x better than Spectre. Who could've guessed Craig's first shot at Bond would be his best.
@jazzx2516 жыл бұрын
The director, Martin Campbell, is 2 for 2 in rebooting the series successfully! First, with Golden Eye. Brosnan's first go at Bond. Then 10 years later with Casino Royale. Craig's first attempt. I think Campbell's action scenes are the best in the whole series - old-fashioned perhaps, but you can see awesomely everything that is happening. Whether that's the truly amazing parkour chase - or a brilliant wide shot of Bond bungee jumping down the wall of a Russian dam (real locations, real stuntmen - no CGI).

@Graphomite9 жыл бұрын
Such dialog! Flirty, witty, sexy...and totally unrealistic. Alas, it is a bond movie. Every single line must be cool as hell. Sarcasm aside, I gotta say this was pretty awesome. I knew they'd have to do something impressive after replacing Pierce Brosnan, but I didn't think we'd get one of the best Bond movies ever made. Shit hasn't been this entertaining since Sean Connery.
@majormoe36789 жыл бұрын
Well if you wanted "realism" Bond and Vesper would stutter, repeat themselves a lot, go uh and repeat themselves.
@Graphomite9 жыл бұрын
Major Moe A sense realism is not quite the same as being entirely realistic. Nothing about any line of this conversation sounded natural. It was a three minute volleyball game of cool, clever retorts. But, again, it's James Bond, so it's necessary. I guess I just never seen (or don't remember) a Bond conversation lasting quite so long. Now I see why they usually don't.

Graphomite The reality in ''Casino Royale'' is that Bond is vulnerable to falling in love, because is at the beginning and has no past. In the final scene Bond becomes the hard agent 007 on her majesty's secret service.

I detect that Vespa got to Bond slightly just from the subtle nuance of his reaction after she leaves, and then casually brushes it off, although acknowledging she is a force to be reckoned with and on a par with his intellectual level, if not more so. She has smarts as well as class and beauty which make for a formidable combination.
