Kind of an old video so I am not sure if will help anyone, but I think @ 9:16 you can use the SD key to change to the form you need instead of changing modes and punching in everything long form.

I do "production engineering" here in Brazil (the Industrial Eng. in US) and the price of this casio is like 50$ here... so i'm going to get one of those while traveling there... I have a fx-82ms but the fractions, quadratic eqs and the integrating function really convinced me to need this. Thx for the video btw, i wasn't so sure it could solve equations... =)

You can either "clear" your calculator so that it defaults back to the original settings or you can change the display to Mth IO. To clear it, hit "SHIFT", then "9", then "3", then " = " , then " = " again. If you want to change the display of your answers so that they are exact (instead of rounded decimals), hit "SHIFT", then "MODE", and then hit " 1 ".

Hello samgondal, remember, the Casio will display the final "solutions", not the "factors". After you factor the quadratic equation into two factors, you must set each factors equal to zero and then solve each equation for x. (2x +3)(x - 6) = 0 2x + 3 = 0 or x - 6 = 0 2x = -3 x = -3/2 This is why the calculator displays '-3/2. The two numbers come from the binomial factor (2x + 3) being set equal to zero. I hope this answered your question.

@SoulReaperKing0 I have the Casio fx-115ES and it is a great machine. However, I would also recommend you buy the new TI-36XPro. It not only gives you the roots of quadratic equations but also the minimum/maximum etc. and more information in other areas such as statistics, the Casio doesn't. You also don't have the strict mode limitation concerning imaginary numbers that the Casio has. I will say that the casio does give more exact answers than the TI-36XPro. They are both great machines.

Try resetting your calculator. Click "SHIFT", then 9. To clear everything, select "3", then hit the equal sign twice.

I m getting different results from the quadratic formula and different from my brain. I have tried both the "Equation Mode" and "Manual Mode (entered my self in computation mode)" The equation is --> 2x^2-9x-18. I want to factor it out but i get x=6 and x= -1.5 from the formula but i shud be getting x=6 and x=-3 --> (2x+3)(x-6) I keep on getting -1.5 instead of -3? got any ideas? 6 is gud but not the -1.5

Hmm. This isn't working for me. I get "Syntax Error" when i try to solve the quadratic formula in parts 2) and 3) of the exercise. Oops, my bad. I was using the negative key on the left for -4 instead of the subtraction key on the right. Thanks for posting these instructional videos. They're really helping me to get up to speed on this calculator.

Ren Nakanote First you would make that table into a quadratic equation through elimination, then enter in that equation into the calculator. I'm like a year late on the reply but hopefully someone can get help from this.

Hmm... Must be doing some thing wrong. One on of the problems, it gave me an answer in scientific notation. The last problem you did, it gave me an answer only of 5/6. The calculator WAS in complex mode and everything was entered exactly as you had it.
