using these calculaters can you find a value of x using a value of y rather then using x increments which finds a value of y?
@rstallworth1212 жыл бұрын
Hello @jesus4life271, one option is to rewrite the function so that it's in general form (y = ax^2 + bx + c), then watch my video on Solving Quadratic Equations - the solutions to the equations are also the x-intercepts. Another option is to determine the vertex (since the equation is in vertex form) and then have the Casio generate a table of values for you (like in the video above). The x-values in your table should range about 10 units to the left and right of the x value in the vertex.

Yes, it will find x-intercepts (provided they exist). For example, if you are asked to find the x ints. for y = 2x^2 - 5x - 3, as you know, that's equivalent to determing what the x values are when the y value is 0. Therefore, replace the y value with zero, which will produce the following quadratic equation 2x^2 - 5x - 3 = 0. I show how to use the Casio for this type of eqn in my "Solving Quadratic Equations" video. The solutions to the equation are also the x-intercepts, x=3, x = -1/2,

When you are graphing parabolas do you have to include the transformations in the equation ? for ex is ( 4x)^2 the same as (1/4x)^2 on the calculator ?

Find the ordered pairs on the table that have y values of zero, these points are the x-intercepts. This method does not guarantee you'll locate the intercepts, and will only work if the x-intercepts are integers (and exist.) Example, given f(x) = (x - 2)^2 - 25, the vertex is (2, -25). Follow the steps in the video above. Since the x value in the vertex is 2, we would Start? at -8 and End? at 12. We see that the f(x) value equals zero at x = -3 and x = 7. These are the intercepts.

@rstallworth12 So for example, they give you a quadratic formula and you have to find the X intercepts.

I couldn't get mode to display the 7 modes. After I selected comp mode, and trying to get to the mode 7, pressing mode only gave me options 1, 2 and 3 again. Your calculator display was a bit too dark to see it's numbers. Good intro, though, and I appreciate the video. Just got my Casio today!
What do you do when the equation is in vertex form?

How about an equation like 3x-6y? Can you get two solutions on the casio with that problem? It's not f(x)...
@rstallworth126 жыл бұрын
Solve the equation for "y". For example, the equation 3x - 6y = 12 can be rewritten as y = (1/2)x - 2 which is equivalent to f(x) = (1/2)x - 2.

Hello! HEEEEEEELP!! Im thinking of buying either the newer fx 115 (its out in Germany but not in the us... somebody explain?) or the Ti-36x. pro I want it for statistics, algebra and mathematical analisys (economics). it has to be non programmable and non graphical so that's why I like these 2 I had a TI once which was basic but cool. I like the build quality of it better but the Casio design is better. Plus for the casio is that it is new, it was released in march and it has a few new perks like 4x4 matroix instead of 3x3 Plus for the TI is that it has an ask x (input x in the function and get a y value) function and the build quality. I think that ask x function is really handy yet I have not been able to discover such function from the manuals in the casio. Does anybody know if I can type a function in the casio and then ask for specific x values? I have an exam in a week and I need to decide latest tomorrow which one to buy. Also, which of you think is better in overall specs? Any alternative to these 2?

Elias Jose Gonzalez I had this same question too so I went and looked in the manual, there IS a way to evaluate a function on the Casio just like TI-36XPro! To do so, type in your function using any of the RED 'Alpha' Letters such as A,B,C,D,E,F,X,Y,M For example... X^2 + 2X + 4 Once you have typed that into the screen hit the CALC button directly below the shift button The calculator will ask you to input an X value Enter your desired X value and it will evalute that X using the function you inputted! If your function uses multiple variables for example: 3A+B+F^2 You can again hit CALC and the calculator will ask you to type in each variable in order, first A, then B, then F, and once it has your inputs it will again evaluate the expression. Give it a try. Its awesome!

Hello jesus4life, to graph y=sin(x), put your calculator is in radian mode (hit SHIFT, MODE, then select option 4). Now follow the steps above to enter in your function. When you get to START? enter "0", for END?, put 2 pi (to get the pi key hit SHIFT, then the "x10^x" key located at the bottom of the calculator). For STEP?, enter pi/4 or pi/2, the choice is yours (pi/4 will generate 9 points and pi/2 will generate 5 points). The table will give you the decimal form of the pi values.
