Casio G-Shock Can't Beat it = True Shock is Price SKMEI 1628

When buying a watch, apart from those who need a watch with a specific function for a specific activity, most people base their decisions on how a watch looks first of all don't they? Based on that criteria alone, given that the SKMEI is roughly 10% of the price of the Casio and appears near identical, it's a clear win for the SKMEI. Of course, no-one would realistically expect the SKMEI to be as hardwearing or as accurate as the Casio, but is it really worth ten times the price? Especially as for most people the loss of two seconds a day isn't a catastrophe, while if they ever found themselves 51 meters underwater I doubt the waterproofness of their £10 watch would be their prime concern. As the owner of more than 20 G-Shock squares as well as this SKMEI myself, I'm surprised at how good the SKMEI is - especially when I consider the cost of manufacturing both watches must be similar (even taking into account the likely differences in material costs of parts used). So is the Casio overpriced? Or is the SKMEI underpriced? In my opinion, there's a market for both - but price doesn't necessarily reflect value for money.

@@watch-highres I don't mind homage products at all. Just wanted to point out that Skmei does have some original products. That watch you reviewed is cool, I like the auto repeat timer function. I have a Skmei 1988. I like it, it doesn't have that feature though. I'll wear original brands too. I just wear whatever watch I want to. Just got a Skmei 9288 and it has the prettiest blue dial, it's insane! I bought it because I thought the bracelet looked so nice. The links are so thin! No gaps, and it's solid. My opinions on watches are pretty complicated, it would take pages of text to explain haha. Wear what ever watch you enjoy.

I have two skmei in my collection and for the price they're excellent surprisingly robust and both have a backlight that you could see from orbit.. Excellent beater watches when you don't want to ruin your nice casios or better watches..

Having stayed in Thailand for 3 months I can confirm this. I have a Sanda watch that I love as well as casio. Skmei is popular here as well, Sanda and Skmei I recommend if you just need a good daily that doesn't need to be rugged.

You did good on the video. I however think the G shock DW5600 is unbeatable for durability, quality and overall build. No question. The Skmei is just a look alike. A lot less money of course but there are reasons that the G shock more money. They don't call it G shock (gravitational shock) for the hell of it.

I really admire the skmei range and have accumulated a few as the price allows me to buy more. One thing I will say is that the strap on the skmei is for me is head and shoulders above the G shock, so much so I forget I'm wearing the skmei half the time. For the price, the skmei is very tough to beat! The backlight is also superb. I do like how the buttons are more protruded on the skmei also. I bought this exact Skmei for about 4 dollars as a welcome deal. 1,5 dollars was the watch the other 2,5 dollars for customs tax:) All the functions works, green backlight is awesome. You can't even read the brand name if you don't have eagle eyes. I just want to see how durable it is. If it keeps up well for some time I might order some other models for fun.

I got one with standard display (not inverted). Wearing it when I'm fixing the car or in the garden. Plastic shourds from G-Shock fit it so if one wants change colour to more bright like red or yellow. I've added strap adaptors (not a fan of silicon, rubber straps) and wearing it on 22mm elastic two-piece strap. Also oil filled it so it have more than 200m water resistancy.

I have this watch and I like it. The only thing I don't like is that the light turns on every time you reset the timer. The timer can be set in seconds too! The timer is a must for me.. even on the Apple Watch is my #1 feature I use the most... but I wish the light didn't turn on because I use it in the gym. Also, I wish I could turn off the beep sound when I go through the modes.

I got the SKMEI as I never have a negative display watch before and I found out I do not like the negative display as it very hard for me to tell what is there on the display without proper light. However, for the price! I would say I am very happy I got the SKMEI and now it happened to be my go-to watch when I wear it outside. Does it bother me on the water resistance 50M? I cannot swim... I sink like a rock, so I doubt my watch is going to be tested that deep. For day-to-day use. water splash, shower. And as for the SHOCK factor... I am not doing any outdoor stuff so ya.. for a watch it works.

Look. I’ve had a skmei watch it was a copy of another watch. Yes it looked good but was a bag of shite. It didn’t have the functionality of the original nor the quality. This is a copy of a gshock of which I own many. I have owned one which I wore everyday for work for over 20years with no issues except battery changes. I rarely wear it now but it is still working beautifully. I doubt a skmei will last that long.

You need to get the positive display version of it if you want a more legible display, and the reason the light on the fake is brighter is because it’s a LED instead of glow, the glow is better in the dark.

The biggest shock to me is that fakes are so popular. The reason why G-SHOCK's belt is hard is because it acts as a cushion to absorb the shock when the belt falls to the ground with the bottom side down. The purpose of dimming the lights is to reduce battery consumption and extend battery life. The reason why the buttons are difficult to press is probably to prevent malfunctions. And as someone who loves watches, I respect you. :) You know about watches. So you can compare. My problem is with people who don't have knowledge about casio watches. Casio is very concerned about copy products, and has recently been selling a cheap casio model that imitates the shape of the G-Shock. It's still good enough, but for example, if someone were to say, "I'm fine with a copy. The Casio's lights are dim, and the buttons are hard to press. It's not a very good watch," I think that would be sad. :(

I hate the negative display i have a g-100 ana/digi g shock and it was always difficult to read off the black display in any amount of light. I also have a dw5600 basic square g shock but i choose with the regular light screen and i love it so much somehow i just always want to wearing it everyday. That skmei junk isn’t worth anything in my opinion since i hate fake or counterfeit products. I rather buy a basic or modest version but at least i know it is what it should be. Take your genuine g shock to any brand service facility and they changing the display for you for a small fee.

You can't compare a skmei with a gshock. Gshocks are proper go anywhere watches, I have the 1628 it's great fun but has plastic screen which will break easily, enjoyable but slightly misleading video

I dont agree I wasn't comparing it on durability if you watch the entire video.Have you been making pressure to your g-shock until the point of break when it was on your wrist. Lets just be real near 60-75 percent of people are not living extreme action level of their g-shock and I've seen lot of fat not fit people choose g-shock because it is colorful and big not because they live at extremes similar level with their g-shock.

I bought the Casio & the Skmei, I returned the Casio. The Skmei strap is definitely better, the buttons are far easier to push on the Skmei which I think is desirable, the light is better as you said. I would take the water resistance with a grain of salt, who in their right mind would take a Casio to 200 meters, only saturation divers go that deep & when you take both of them apart the build quality is very similar. The one thing the Casio triumphs over the Skmei is in time keeping, the Skmei loses about 5 seconds per week, the Casio module is much more accurate. You can beat the Skmei to bits & if it breaks buy another as they are so cheap. Great review

The buttons being more difficult to press is annoying, but that's literally part of the G-Shock core design. Strap comfort is very subjective, but also not a big deal as these are easy to swap out. You're entitled to enjoy Skmei, but don't act like Casio is objectively worse.

Neither of these two is good for me. I can't see the time at all. What is the purpose of a negative display? You only have a plastic bracelet on your hand. I had a Skmei and after a few months the buttons didn't work anymore, I guess dust got in underneath and the time is became unusable. The second thing is that the battery weakened very quickly. And they are very cheap, so you can take another one when one fails. There is some logic. The third thing is the strap, which broke just as quickly.

İf you are pushing the limits of a strap than you are a G-Shock person I use Diver watches for that reason most of my collection is about diver watches becase they are way better than digital watches when it comes reading time and style in a combo pack

I'm well aware not everyone is as fortunate as us to afford good quality watches, even ones from brands like Casio. But I have come across way too many guys who can afford Casio watches, but choose to go from Skmei because it's cheaper.
