I bought the one with Orange letterings. I think Orange stands out clearest underwater. To avoid the hassle of PolyWatch to burr out scratches, I bought a $2 screenprotector from AliExpress, custom for this watch. Easy to apply. Now it's scratch-proof, fingerprint-proof, also makes screen tougher against cracks. They really made those protectors very well. I got an air bubble inside somewhere, but after a few days, it disappeared as the protective material seems to automatically smoothed itself out. Can't even tell if there's a screen-protector on it now. I used them also on my other Casios AE-1200, as well as my solar Casio AQ-S810W. All settled themselves perfectly on the screens and don't even interfere with solar charging.

These are watches are really popular for a good reason. They make an excellent vacation watch for the beach for example. I'd strongly prefer this type of bezel to a misaligned unidirectional ratcheting bezel. The colourway is fairly inoffensive and stealthy. PUR on the back on the strap stands for Polyurethane.

I can't help but notice your seconds hand hits every marker just like mine does, amazing in a £25 watch. I have the black & orange which is hydromodded, good fun & takes it to the next level, you should give it a go.

Nice review. I have the same model. I got some cheap rubber 22mm straps, and cut the ends for the spring bars down to 18mm to fit. Looks good and the steaps doesn't bulge like the originals. I put those original straps on my Casio AE-1200Whd, looks great.

That strap is long because it's a divers watch. Casio never does un planned designs. This is a budget but legit divers watch. Also, NASA astronots wear this exact watch over their thick suits, thanx to long strap 😊

I usually wear a Timex Ironman as a daily beater watch but recently changed up with this watch. I work security and it's very easy to read but with the placement of the glass I don't think it is a durable as my Ironman.

Awesome Review The movement is a Casio 5125 movement Have the Black model with a White dial i only have lumed Hands no lume numerals kind of a bummer but love this watch as a beater

Couple years ago I bought a Casio W-59B-1AVEF as a beater watch. I wanted the plain black case and canvas strap and cheap. I hate the colour parts on some Casio watch cases and hate the plastic straps. It was solid to find what I wanted cos they were discontinued. Took a lot of searching (a lot of times part of the fun). Got what I wanted in the finish and then realised I'm not much of a beater watch type guy.

I just found out that it houses a very common Miyota quartz movement which costs about $5 (includes postage) to replace. So if it dies, get a new movement, swap the dial & hands over, DONE! If the battery doesn't leak, these movements can last forever. If you want to play it safe, buy only branded battery and change it within 2 years, instead of letting it run down after 3 years.

@@WesWatchRoom ... oh I have a DW5600 blacked out variant which I love but i want to keep it looking decent so therefore as a true 'I don't care how beat up or mucky it gets or looks' watch this is easier to not care because of the price and looks and yet it is tough and looks decent enough that it still works and does look decent. My G-shock is more Jason Statham (tough but classy) to the MRW Russell Crowe or Mel Gibson rough and tough. Another good beater option is the Casio Aq-s800w ani-digi. A long while back it used to be Jody's 'Zombie Apocalypse' watch.

I set my bezel to about 8 mins past to keep the quarters diagonal which makes the watch less bulky to me, if your OCD can live with it!

These are just ridiculously Casio value for the money, and I really should've own one by now just for that point (if the wishing list wasn't like eternal lol). Tbh, I actually thought the bezel wasn't even windable, but glad I was mistaken. I like that it's kinda like a hybrid diver/field watch design. And the seconds hand seems to hit all the markers! Yeah, I'd cut that piece of flopping strap out. I've no personal experience of these Casios, but the initial disappointment of a really rough winding bezel on my Kamasu turned out way better after a couple of months after some random winding. Hopefully this might get better as well. Anyways, you seriously can hand out these as cool gifts like Elvis handed out Cadillacs to various people back in the days, and feel like a king.

The bezel action on mine is perfect for a tension bezel not too difficult to turn and it will stay put when put in the desired position. I have you to thank for this! I did notice the minutes hand does seem a little too skinny when compared to its hour hand counterpart, the two don’t seem to go together too well at least on mine

Bezel is acceptable. For the price, can't expect uni-directional clicking bezel. But, hey, it can go both ways, which makes it a great countdown timer.. I'd rather it be sturdy like it is, than a lose bezel that can turn too easily when lightly knocked. I got a metal GMT bezel that usually moves a click or two after I woke from a nap. Now that's annoying.

I have a blue dial one from about 2 years. No issues with the bezel rotation, except the accumulation of dust between the rotating bezel and the case. Probably this is one of the reasons this specimen you review has issues with the bezel rotation... or a deteriorated gasket? This model is pretty often used by modders for so called hydro-mode (stuffing the watch with a mineral oil to achieve a God-knows-how-much-higher water/pressure resistance - no joke at all). Movement is Miyota (Citizen). Despite the second's hand rarely hits the markers, my specimen is pretty accurate - last correction of the hands I performed a few months ago... and it is 8 seconds ahead. Pretty acceptable, I would say. What I don't really like is the operation of the crown. The first pull for correction of the day and date is OK, but for correction of the hands... I should pull really hard. I wouldn't say the strap is that easy to change... 18 mm lugs, but they are pretty short and when you put two-piece-nato, it looks pretty disproportioned compared to the body/case of the watch. I've tried this and didn't liked the appearance. Of course, everyone decides for themselves what they like... Thank you for the review!

The bezel will pop right off with your fingers. Rub a bar of soap on the friction points or use some silicone. It will loosen up with use. This is a fantastic analog watch. Mine have all been accurate to +1 sec/mo. It’s way more accurate than my stealth G-shock. It’s the watch I wear to bed because it’s so comfortable. I set all my automatic watches by it.

Why on earth do you want to loosen the bezel?? There is a reason why it's stiff and that's because it's a friction bezel and not ratcheting hence that stiffness ensures to keep the bezel in its place.

This is a great looking watch for under $20. I have the black and white ones. BUT, having to manually adjust the date every other month is a real pain and inconvenience. There were a few times when I forgot to adjust, I ended up writing the wrong date.

It definitely is and unfortunately that's a quartz for you, but least it's a few times every few months rather than days with an automatic.

@@WesWatchRoom I'm now looking at a few Casio analog watches where there is a small lcd digital display to show the mm/dd, and I think for those models, you'll get the analog without the need to adjust the date every other month. HDC-700-1AVCF, GA-2100-1, etc., which are more expensive.
