Wow, that was a fabulously in-depth review, very comprehensive indeed. You certainly have spent a bit of time with this watch. I have been after a Casio for ages now, been a Seiko and Citizen fan for years, and was tossing up getting a Mudman - until I saw this watch. Quad sensor and so many features and functions, almost like a smart watch but better. Excellent review and walk through of the features on this watch. I bought one about 6 weeks ago and was looking for a review like this one prior to my purchase. I really love this watch. I wasn’t too keen on the strap when I got it. I don’t really like Casio straps in general. Fortunately this watch is easy to swap straps. FYI the lug width is 23mm. An oddball size which limits choice, but I was able to pick up a Strapcode bracelet that fits, and now this watch is so comfortable I find myself wearing it more and more. I didn’t buy it to be a daily wear watch, but I am really enjoying it, so it has made its way into the rotation alongside my much more expensive watches. Anyway, thanks for the review. Liked and subscribed.

Great jn-depth review! You show and explain the functionality really well. One question though, can the bluetooth be completely turned off on the watch? Also, has the indicated battery life been accurate in your experience? I’ve been using the Casio SGW-500h for a few years now and it’s great but lately I’ve been looking for something similar (including the form factor without the curved sides you now see in a couple of interesting watches with similar functions) but with a step counter built in alongside the ana-digi functionality and magnetic compass.
@DougFNJ2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I always like these videos to work as a resource, and I’m glad they help. These use Bluetooth low energy, no way to turn it off, but it’s not really battery consuming either. I’ve always found Casio batteries to go much longer than advertised. BUT…..with watches with these functions, you may find the more you use the functions, the battery life could be affected.

Hi DougFNJ, I am a UK viewer of this video which is great! Could you advise on the following please? If you replace the battery yourself, will that not possibly damage the water seal? Does the bezel move easily, or require a little effort. I get irritated moving them back in position. I think it's great that you seem to answer everyone's questions. I am torn between this watch and the Pro-Trek PRG 600-1CR. Which would you choose? I know that the PRG is solar, but a lot of functions use the screw in button. Many thanks Terry Davis.
@DougFNJ2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Terry! I typically have jewelers change the battery so they could properly reseal it with the correct seals. You can order the seals off eBay or maybe Casio as well and keep it watertight. If you go into the water a lot with watches, its always suggested to get the water resistance checked annually. The bezel does move easy enough both directions, but I don't find myself having to adjust it often. I always personally prefer more functions, but that is very subjective to budget, and just buying what you need. I love Solar, I find my solar watches. My 10 year old solar watches still don't need battery changes.

I long press to log....and the recording starts...i make the walk where I want....but when it saves, after I long press again 5sec, in the app I only get 2 -3 random straight lines that connects the start and end point, not the actually path with curves and so on?😢😢 I just don't know how to do it. Could you please teach how to do it? I'd send you a picture with the actual recordig so you can see what I mean... Thank you

I noticed that route log is actually record GPS data of the phone. But , when your phone screen is off, Protrek apps didn’t get that GPS data. Then i make my phone screen always on, then it worked just like Avenza App or just like this Yt Channel showed. I think it’s because android location access is set as “using GPS - allowed only while in use.. app” not “Allowed all the time”. This setting can’t be changed because of the Protrek app don’t have “allowed all the time” location option

Hello , does this watch mesure depth ? If yes how do I find it in settings on the watch ?

Hey Sam, only one that I know for sure measures depth is the Frogman GWF-D1000

Hi, Do you know how to move arrows from the digital display?
@sumesh66614 жыл бұрын
Very descriptive video. One question I have is is this of much use really if you are lost during a trek? Because it needs to use the gps location at start of the trip from the base village and we need to again use the gps of the mobile to fix the final point or the place where we need help to come back to base village. What will happen if mobile battery dies in between? Without that is is not going to fix the lost position and so there will be no use of setting the starting point of the trek?
@DougFNJ4 жыл бұрын
If you are a serious hiker and going out, you would likely want to have a mobile battery charger for the phone, or at least know the direction back to the starting point so you could use the compass to find your way back.

Hi Sophian, thank you for watching! Are you using an iPhone? The first thing that happens when I tap into all activity is to give permission to the app to access my photos. As I was actively using the activity, I took photos during the hike, they automatically attached into the points I took them. It was very streamlined. Check your app permissions, that should fix your problem. Please let us know if that works.

can you do the location features with no phone paired? or in an out of service zone?
@DougFNJ4 жыл бұрын
The watch uses the phone for GPS capabilities. I believe you need to be in service zone, it isn't downloading maps to the phone, it is generating them. If you really want on board GPS, you could look into the Rangeman, its big, but very capable.
@NaturesLantern4 жыл бұрын
@@DougFNJ got it thanks, I've noticed even the Garmin instinct looses most of its capabilities with no phone service which seems like these outdoor watches biggest weak spot

What a cool watch, and seeing it uses the data on your phone to mark the location spots is keeping that battery lasting those 2yrs or so... and as Bluetooth doesn't use much juice so this all makes sense... it's pretty much like the GPR-B1000 but that can be used alone, but mostly everyone does carry their phones anyway and these are a lot cheaper. Quite a fast movement too I noticed... big fan of ProTreks and was my go to long before I went for a G-Shock... really liking their lineup these days... nice a bold LCD display is a win. Great review and like how you get the app to screen share... I've tried but for some reason it doesn't work... I've updated my Quicktime player and checked all is connected, but never pulls up the screen record option, only my front camera on my Mac :( very odd indeed??? Thanks for sharing and doing that outdoor part which was perfect :)) Big thumbs buddy!

WatchUP69 Mr Rangeman Thank you VERY much for the good words. I love doing these, you do incredible work with you’re specifics. The Rangeman review you did is like an interactive manual. My Rangeman review is uploading as we speak, looking forward to your thoughts. As far as the screen shot, if you pull down you’re control panel, you’ll see a screen record button. It’s like a circle with a dot in the middle. That shoots the iPhone screen as I do the review. I then airdrop it to my MacBook, drag it above the video, synchronize the time, and move the video to the right side of the screen. Let me know if you have any other questions on that. Thanks again.

Great review. Do you know anything about the lcd differences between the 5601 models? Yours was dark on clear and mine is clear on dark. The lcd info pops better with your watch than the one I have. Wish there was a way to change that.

If you are daring and willing to open it up, there is a way to change the polar glass and turn it positive. There are tutorials on KZbin, search for changing negative digital to positive.

@@DougFNJoh I got this a couple of weeks ago and absolutely love it. I have worn it everyday and I have other awesome Casio and Pro trek watches. If I’d had this one from the start I probably would not have bought all the others but I probably would have cause once you get into serious watch collecting the tendency is to push it to the limits.

@@DougFNJ omg you’re so right. I’ve got a lot of Timex addiction as well their multiple complication watches like tide, temp, compass, barometer and altimeter as well and such marvels that are all analog hands. I’ve got about every model of compass watches that Timex has ever made including the first model they ever made still in the box it came in. But yes I was never a Casio watch owner until I saw a KZbin review of Casio. That was a game changer in my shift in adding Casio and Pro Trek to my collection. Oh I’ve got some Citizens and Bulovas and a mint 1962 tuning fork model as well but I generally wear Casio and Timex. I’ve got a couple of Luminox’s as well that I really like, the P38 model is the favorite. My next purchase is the Luminox ICE-SAR Arctic 1200 Silver Blue. I told my wife that can be our wedding anniversary gift. 😂

How does this compare to a Suunto core or Traverse?
@DougFNJ4 жыл бұрын
I haven't used the Traverse, but the biggest difference with this watch and the Core is the Analog Digital of course, and the GPS and App features definitely stand out. This watch is overall much more functional than the Suunto, but I believe the Suunto may have more accurate sensors.
